Beautifully renovated huge, open-space, LOFT in Historic Downtown Wilson, with private entrance, has a luxurious feel while maintaining the warm and classic ambiance of a space one might find in London or NYC (or so I've been told). The light-filled 1,700 s/ft space features high, open-beam ceilings, skylights and original heart pine floors. Upgraded kitchen & bathroom fixtures and appliances.

2 blocks to Whirligig Park, Casita Brewing Co, coffee shops, restaurants, and art galleries, and more.

The space
Ever wanted to experience what it's like to live on the edge. Well, now you can. Literally, The Loft is the top story of The Edge Wilson, a private art studio, gallery, and creative collaborative space.

The Loft at The Edge Wilson has a main sleeping area featuring a gourmet galley kitchen, enormous living space, two dining spaces, the state of the art bathroom, and a king size bed, loaded with light and fluffy pillows, blankets and comforter. The sunset views from the south facing windows are often breathtaking.

The secondary sleeping space is a guest nook, which has a privacy curtain and a queen size bed, should you want to share the space with another couple, friends, or bring your kids.

There are several seating areas, allowing guests to be together, or take quiet time for themselves. Movable privacy walls on casters can also be used to create extra privacy, as desired.

Being located above The Edge Wilson's Art Studio and Gallery, creates the opportunity for creative infusion and a cool ambiance as Barb has used her creative imagination to make the Loft unique and interesting. Upon special request, private art experiences can be arranged by Barb, with materials and inspiration provided (inquire if this is something that would interest you or your group).

The kitchen has a high-end gas range, dishwasher and all the appliances, crockery and cutlery that one might need. Salt and pepper and other basic condiments are provided along with coffee, tea.

The bathroom is a place one may want to linger. A good soak in the large, oval tub is a great way to relax with a glass of wine or facemask (or neither!) . The open shower creates a modern European experience, with a curbless entry and custom tile work, one can enjoy the rainhead shower, or rinse away the day with the handheld spray and not worry about the water splashing on the ceramic flooring. The a salvaged wood floating counter is custom made and holds the vessel sink, and antique mirror (salvaged from the building before renovation), make the space intimate and functional. The space is clean and bright, with white tiling, pocket doors and a separate toilet (wc) .

The loft is very light filled, from north and south facing windows (with light filtering privacy blinds), and also two skylights. The elevated and open ceiling with white beams creates a sense of space and emphasizes the industrial-loft, classic-contemporary ambiance of the space. We have kept much of the original structure, and used salvaged wood from the ceilings to create beautiful custom shelves and tables. the bricks are painted white, with one wall featuring the original plaster as homage to the history of the space.

This is a unique space that allows one to enjoy a small rural downtown experience, yet feel inspired and uplifted by the sophisticated and luxurious design, creating a perfect juxtaposition of styles. Many original features of the 100 year old building have been kept, and are accented with custom-designed and locally crafted items, such as the oversized trestle tables and all the shelving.

Barb has collected many items which are meaningful and significant and is delighted to share them with visitors. The light, airy and textured space is always a place people like to gather and for occasions or just because.

We hope the good energy of the building, the blend of old and new and wide open view (especially the sunsets) will inspire you during your stay.

Coffee and tea supplies are available for the entire duration of your visit.

Guest access
The Edge has it's own private parking next to the building. It is free. The entrance to the loft is private.

Downtown Wilson is very walkable, with all attractions within a few blocks of each other. Street parking is available throughout downtown, but restricted to limited hours and reservations.

Other things to note
The City of Wilson hosts many events that are attractions. Covid has impacted these to a greater or lesser degree, and this is subject to change as things open up. We look forward to Wilson hosting the Wilson Historic Downtown Festival (usually the 1st weekend in November), the opening week of Eyes on Main Street (April or May), where typically 40-50 photographers from both the U.S. and all over the world gather to conduct classes, demonstrations, conferences and also exhibitions. The Gig's in the Park concert series will hopefully pick back up soon. Pop up music, art shows and openings, the Wilson Arts exhibitions and also the Boykin Theatre shows.

Location

Wilson, North Carolina, United States

Historic Downtown Wilson is fast becoming a community known for the unique experiences it offers. Just an hour from Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, it is great for a day trip, or more.

The famous Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park is only the beginning of what can be seen and enjoyed in Wilson. It is amazing and something for all to enjoy and wonder at the vision of on man, to make all these amazing gigs that reach high into the sky, and turn at the slightest breeze, and positively spin, when the wind blow. The sunset views at the park are spectacular and create an amazing backdrop for the whirligigs.

As a town where artists, musicians, entrepreneurs and investors are starting to create a unique brand of attractions (even and maybe especially during Covid), one can enjoy the Whirligig Park, the Eyes on Main Street International Photographic Outdoor Exhibit, and all the interesting historic buildings.

For example, Casita Brew Co. is well known amongst fans of craft beers, and their brewery and outdoor beer garden make for a great place to hang out with friends, or just enjoy a beverage or two. Our art galleries are all uniquely different, from single artist shows, to others featuring gift offerings along with original paintings, as well as several private studios where artists can be found creating their sometimes nationally acclaimed work.

For the sweet tooth, there are several choices for candy and ice-cream, and my personal favorite is Treat Yo' Self, the fantastic bakery specializing in the best cupcakes. Several good restaurants are open for restricted indoor dining, outdoor patios, or provide take-out options. A short drive away from the Historic Downtown District are other restaurants and food establishments from which to order, or with limited dine-in options. Downtown has a great new coffee shop, Larema, which provides a huge space located in a newly renovated old building, where you can safely enjoy your beverage. (We recommend you check all business hours and offerings for these businesses online first).

Conveniently located 6 miles off the I-95, Wilson is also an ideal spot to break up a trip between New England and Florida. Guests who have stayed at The Loft at The Edge have wanted to stay longer, so plan on building in an extra day or two to stretch your legs and enjoy a unique and inspiring place, before you make your way to your final destination.

All in all, Wilson is a place where there are things to do, open spaces to enjoy and friendly locals who will be happy to help you find what you need.
