Thank you for your detailed review, Katie. In my post I suggest using Calle Matías Ledesma corner Ave. Muñoz Rivera for GPS. That's just at the corner of the building, between the Shell station and the small church. Since hurricane Maria many of the street lights are still out, making it in general a bit unpleasant walking alone at night in San Juan. But the lights are slowly coming back, and with them the neighborhood will feel less lonely again. Puerta de Tierra is a transit strip between Condado, Miramar and Old San Juan - but it has a lively (art) community, several restaurants and simple stores on Calle San Agustín, as well as many historic attractions, besides the Escambrón Beach, the Parque Muñoz Rivera, and the Capitol Building. As for the mosquitoes I'm sorry to hear they enjoyed biting you! Mosquito spray, Off spray, an electric mosquito swatter and a mosquito light are placed in the apartment to help control them and the ceiling and pedestal ventilators help, too. I suggest for all of Puerto Rico long pants and light colors, especially at daybreak and dawn, when they are most active. Keep that in mind for your next trip! Saludos!
