An original 1950's beach holiday home. Known to Kiwis in the North Island of New Zealand as a bach. Owned by our family for over 25 years.
This is our favorite place in the world and we have traveled to a lot of places!!! No where is as amazing as Little Bay.
Spectacular views off the deck over the ocean to the end of Great Barrier Island and the Cuvier Island.
An original bach that is indestructible, its not flashy and fancy, its comfortable and practical. With everything you need to relax.
Sleeping 8 in the 3 bedrooms there is a great big bunk room at one end. So there is one king bed, a double and 4 singles as bunks.
Its a 3 hour drive from Auckland, about 15 minutes on the gravel road past Colville. Colville is the last place for food, drinks and petrol- don't go past on an empty tank!
There is no TV, limited cell phone coverage, no shops and no where to go but the beach or a great bush walk in the surrounding hills.
Little bay is the most gorgeous white sand beach fringed with huge Pohutukawa trees.
There are great walks up to the top of the Moehau range of mountains.
For entertainment- people and food etc there is a Kiwi sanctuary about 25 minutes drive away in Sandy bay at Tangiaro lodge, there is a great restaurant, snooker table and air hockey and bush spa pools. Its about 20 dollars for an hour in a huge spa.
The bach is basic, with 2 fridges and a chest freezer, microwave and an outside toilet!!!! Lots of board games, tonnes of books and lots of rest and relaxation. It has a bath and a great shower.
There is a BBQ and Kayaks if you have a vehicle that can take them down the beach. The beach is a 5 minute walk or 1 minute drive away.
We are at the top of the small cluster of houses so there is no one blocking our view or looking at us. It is very private!.
There is parking for 3 or 4 cars or a boat. The beach has a boat launch area but it is for tractors only due to he deep sand.
Close by there are concrete boat ramps for 4 wheel drives.
If you want to experience what a very special limited number of NZ families do -then rent a bach. It is a great way to take a real holiday.
Books, a shower and bath and mother nature. oh and panoramic views of the Great Barrier and Cuvier Islands. The bach has everything a normal house would have but no tv. It is a 3 bedroom house with open plan dining and lounge area.
Interaction with Guests
We live 6 hours away, so you are required to leave the bach as you find it. Cleaned fully for the next person, no washing out or left dirty, nothing outside, power and water turned off and all windows and doors securely locked.
That there are only 3 people living permanently in this bay. At times of the year there is no one around. There are great walks and lots of outdoor experiences.
Nope, none at all past Coromandel township. You will need a car. A good car and be a fairly good driver, the roads are narrow, gravel and winding.
Other Things to Note
There are no doors in the bach, only curtain dividers. The toilet is outside. You must leave it as you find it. No dogs- there are kiwi right outside the bach in the native bush, at night you can hear them call at times of the year when its quiet....
So long as you don't annoy anyone else you can do as you wish.
