About This Listing
We invite you to come and stay in our beautiful, clean home, on a quiet street. Friendly hosts. Easy access to all parts of Memphis. Private bathroom. Light breakfast. Max. 3 people (in 2 rooms). You'll sleep very well here.
We can accommodate up to three guests traveling together, and we have two separate rooms. One of the rooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed with a good quality (firm) mattress, and freshly ironed cotton sheets. There's space for clothing in the dresser drawers and closet. The other room is just as big, but has a twin bed, and does not have as much storage space. (No photo yet, coming soon.) The full bathroom is right next door, and you'll have it all to yourself (towels, shampoo, soap are of course provided). No other guests will be here during your stay. Please note that this is a two-story house, and the bedrooms and bathroom are all upstairs.
The basic price is for one or two people using the larger bed. If there is a third person, there is a small extra charge for using the second room. However, if two people each want their own room, the extra charge will be applied.
If you stay 4 nights or more, you can use the washer and dryer. Other things you might need (hairdryer, iron, etc) are always available, just ask.
What makes this home unique is the quiet, very safe location and beautifully landscaped back yard, best enjoyed in spring or fall, a gardener's delight.
If you're new to Airbnb, we recommend that you make an "inquiry" before making a reservation, and let us know a little about the purpose of your visit, etc. ALSO PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE A COMPLETED PROFILE AND PHOTO OF YOURSELF!
We can discuss any cooking you might want to do on an individual basis, and it won't usually be a problem - but please ask first!
Guests have access to everywhere (except our bedroom). The house is spacious, and you are welcome to use the living room to read, watch TV or hang out with us. There is a beautiful, secluded garden and deck where you can sit and have a drink. A self-serve light, healthy, breakfast is included in the price.
Our kitchen is available for light cooking, just let us know ahead of time so we can plan.
Interaction with Guests
We have really enjoyed the diversity of our guests, and have had some great conversations over a drink or even dinner. We love friendly guests, that's what Airbnb is all about, I think. But on the other hand, if you prefer to keep to yourself, that's just fine too. We will totally respect your privacy.
This is a great location, an established, upscale, safe neighborhood, known as East Memphis. It's part of the city (not a suburb) and many people consider this the best part of Memphis. Our little street features nice homes, lots of trees and it's very quiet. You will sleep well here.
We are close to the Memphis Botanic Garden, and the Dixon Gallery.... and the only Whole Foods store in Memphis (great for take-out).
There are several excellent grocery stores less than a mile away, as well as many restaurants, nice shops, a movie theater, museums, parks, etc., all within 5-10 minutes drive. We're also near the Racquet Club, if you're here for a tennis tournament. We're about 15 mins away from Midtown, 25 mins to Downtown or Graceland. (It's a very easy drive, one straight road all the way downtown.)
We recommend you either bring your own vehicle (which you can safely park in our quiet, cul-de-sac street) or you can use Lyft or Uber (cab service). Bikes can be stored in our garage. We have been known to pick guests up or drive them somewhere, when we are able (usually weekends).
Other Things to Note
Check-in time is between 5 PM and 9 PM, please. Check-out is before noon. We do need to know your approximate arrival time, so we can be sure to be there to welcome you.
The person making the booking must be the same person who is staying, and we may ask to see photo ID if there is any doubt.
Check-in is after 5:00 PM, and before 9:00 PM. We can occasionally accommodate a different check-in time, e.g. at the weekend. We ask you to please be quiet after 10:30 PM (I get up very early for work). No pets and no children under 10. No smoking inside the house, but careful smoking is allowed outside. Please put your luggage on the luggage rack or on the floor, and not on the clean bed. Only water to drink in the bedroom, please, and no food. And please... after you take a shower, don't leave the curtain all at one side, spread it out; Memphis humidity makes it easy for things to become mildewed.
We are really thankful to our hosts for the best AirBnB experience we've ever had. It was a very comfortable stay in a wonderful house, Juliet even prepares breakfast! It is a 15 minute ride to Graceland or Beale Street which is not a problem at all if you travel by car.
We loved to stay in this very nice house with the beautiful garden. It was a great pleasure to spend a few days in that loving environment. Juliet and Ed are really very communicative, always very helpful and lovable host. We would be very happy to meet them again.
Ed and Juliet are very friendly and welcoming hosts. They were very helpful in providing all the information we needed about the local area - which includes a Wholefoods Supermarket just up the road. The house and garden are wonderful, and in a lovely peaceful location an easy drive from the centre of town.
It was a delightful stay! We had everything we needed and more, Ed and Juliet were very helpful and accommodating, and I would definitely recommend staying there to my friends should they ever need a place in Memphis. Also, there was a blanket that was like a little piece of a cloud. Sooooo comfortable.
I would recommend staying here and would consider this host again if I ever return to East Memphis. The neighborhood is comfortable. Juliet and Ed are welcoming. I only slept here and grabbed a bite as I headed out early each morning, so I didn't get much of a chance to chat with my hosts. The room is clean and comfortable. Juliet responds quickly to any inquiries. I wish I had been able to enjoy the back porch because the trees are blooming and it looks so pretty. One great little detail is the house key is given on a carabiner. The house rules are in the description and easy to follow.
Juliet and ed were very friendly and welcoming hosts. They made our stay in memphis very comfortable and enjoyable.
Ed & Juliet were warm and friendly hosts with a cozy and comfy home! The location is quite accessible to the main road, yet tucked away in a quiet street corner. They were quite flexible with the timing of our arrival and communication was prompt. They also offered us breakfast of our choice, along with tea and coffee in a quaint breakfast table setting with a morning view of colorful birds. We'd love to stay at their place on our next visit to Memphis!

About the Host, Juliet And Ed
Hi, I'm Juliet and Ed is my husband. We are active, adventurous baby-boomers!
We love to travel and have visited many countries in Europe and Latin America. We really enjoy using Airbnb, both as hosts and as guests. We are non-smokers; we like walking, swimming, gardening, reading, visiting museums, live theater, good food and wine, good conversations. Ed likes to ride his bike and in 2013 he rode halfway across the USA, from Chicago to Maine. Last year (2014) we both rode along the Danube, from Passau to Vienna. If you bring your bikes, Ed can show you some places to ride - we're near the Greenline. And if you like to cook, perhaps we can make dinner together one evening (I'm vegetarian). We'd love to share a cup of tea or glass of wine with you, whatever your preference!
We are avid supporters of protecting the environment, and we try to practice sustainable living: we recycle, compost, grow some of our own vegetables. Don't be surprised that we only provide cloth napkins.
We don't have any pets. Ed is a retired pharmacist; I'm an occupational therapist, still working. I was born in England, and have also lived in Spain. I speak fluent Spanish, and reasonable French. Ed is originally from Ohio. We have really enjoyed meeting all our Airbnb guests from all over the world ... And we'd love to meet you! Venez nous voir si vous parlez français! Si prefieren comunicarse conmigo en español, no hay problema!
Gourmet restaurant, for that special night out! It has a very nice bar, too, if you just want a cocktail.
Kroger is an excellent grocery store, less than a mile away.
Reasonably priced, Greek/Mediterranean restaurant, probably the closest restaurant to the house.
Best cupcakes, cookies and pies anywhere. Featured in the New York Times! Retro, quirky, and owned by a friend of my daughter's. They serve coffee, too.
The Paradiso is a large, multi screen movie theater.
Good for lunch (sandwiches, soups, etc)
Good food, American classics.
Whole Foods sells organic, natural, healthy food of all kinds. Our guests love it! It has been renovated very recently (Feb 2014).
Voted one of the nation's best new restaurants. Southern "nouvelle cuisine" with focus on the "whole hog".
Independently owned local bookstore, with restaurant (Bronte Bistro) inside.
Personally, I'm not a big eater of fried chicken, but this place IS "world famous" !!
Good food, independently owned restaurant.
A good place for a light meal: soups, salads, sandwiches. Nice outdoor seating with fountain. Free WiFi.
Upscale grocery store (supermarket) for that hard-to-find item.
One of our favorite BBQ restaurants.
Beautiful rose garden, iris garden, Japanese garden, children's garden. Little restaurant serves lunch.
Really good food - cheap - "hole in the wall" type of place. Lunch only, I think.
One of my favorite places. Art museum, with changing exhibits. Nice gift shop for unusual gifts. Beautiful gardens, for a relaxing stroll.
Nearest mall. (Macy's, Dillards), and Sears just across the street.
Said to be the largest city park in the USA! Hiking, boating, horseback riding, state of the art children's playground.
This park has an old-growth forest, which is unusual for the middle of a city. Nice place to go for a walk. Near the zoo.
One of our favorite restaurants. French bistro-style, reasonably priced.
I was really trying to highlight just the whole Cooper-Young area, which is great for restaurants!
Restaurant specializing in "low country" cuisine (South Caroline) and one of our favorites!
Memphis's main museum, it has a bit of everything. Also nice gift shop, and restaurant (lunch only).
This is an excellent zoo - one of the few that has pandas!
One of the best grocery stores around, but a bit pricy.
Where Elvis lived. Lots to see!
