Description

The space

We can host up to three guests, in two separate bedrooms. The larger room has a queen-sized bed with a brand new Tuft & Needle mattress and freshly ironed sheets. Plenty of storage space. The other bedroom has a twin-sized ("single") bed, also with new mattress, but does not have storage space. Both rooms have ceiling fans.

The private bathroom is right next door (not "en suite"), and you'll have it all to yourself (shampoo, soap, lotion, towels, and a robe are provided).

No other guests will be here during your stay. Please note that this is a two-story house, and your bedroom and bathroom are both upstairs. The property is therefore not handicapped accessible. Also note that it's our home and we live here too.

The quoted price is for one or two people using the larger bed. If there is a third person, there is an extra charge of $15/night. And whenever both rooms are needed, e.g. if two people each want their own room, the extra charge will be applied. If that is your preference, please either message me without making a reservation request (use the "Contact Host" button) or book for 3 people.

If you stay 4 nights or more, you may use the washer and dryer. Other things you might need (iron, etc) are also available.

What makes this home unique is the hosts' attention to detail, plus the quiet, very safe location and secluded, beautifully landscaped back yard, a gardener's delight.

Do let us know a little about the purpose of your visit. This will help us to be a better fit for your needs. ALSO PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE A COMPLETED PROFILE AND PHOTO OF YOURSELF!

Guest access

Guests can go anywhere in the house except our bedroom. The house is spacious, and you are welcome to use the living room to read, watch TV, or chat with us. There is a beautiful, secluded garden and deck, where you are of course welcome to go. You might like to sit outside, on the deck. A self-serve light, healthy, breakfast is included in the price.

Our kitchen is available at times for light cooking. By "light cooking", we mean microwave and stovetop only, not the oven. And please let us know ahead of time so we can plan. We provide a limited amount of space in the refrigerator (half a shelf) where you may store some food of your own.

Interaction with guests

We have enjoyed the diversity of our guests, and have had some great conversations over a drink or even dinner. We love friendly guests, that's what Airbnb is all about. But on the other hand, if you prefer to keep to yourself, that's fine too; we will totally respect your privacy.

The neighborhood

The house is in an established, upscale, safe, walkable neighborhood, known as East Memphis. It's definitely still part of the city (not a suburb) and many people consider this the best part of Memphis to live in. We're about 15 minutes away from Midtown, 25 minutes to Downtown or Graceland. (It's a very easy drive, one straight road all the way downtown.)

There are many restaurants nearby, as well as nice shops, a movie theater, museums, parks, etc., all within 5 minute drive. We're also near the Racquet Club, if you're here for a tennis tournament. And there are several other excellent grocery stores less than a mile away.

We're close to the Botanic Garden, and the Dixon Gallery.... and the only Whole Foods store in Memphis (great for take-out).

You might hear an occasional train at night. It is over a mile away, but sometimes the sound seems to carry, especially in the winter.

Getting around

We really recommend you bring your own vehicle (which you can safely park in our quiet, cul-de-sac street) or you could use Lyft or Uber (cab service). Bikes may be stored in our garage. Occasionally, we have been known to pick guests up at the bus or train station, or drive them somewhere whenever we are able. The bus service in Memphis is not the most reliable way to get around.

Other things to note

Check-in time is between 4 PM and 9 PM. Check-out is before 11:00 AM. We do need to know your approximate arrival time, so we can be sure to be at home to welcome you.

Note that the security deposit will only be charged in the event of actual damage by guest. DEPOSIT IS NOT CHARGED when booking.

After you have booked, you will be given our phone numbers. Please note that the first number is a land line and CANNOT be used for texting. Texts can be sent to the second number, but we really prefer all communication to be done via Airbnb email messaging.

The person making the booking must be the same person who is staying, and we may ask to see photo ID if there is any doubt. We do ask guests to have an actual profile photo of themselves, so we know the person who shows up at our home is the person who booked the space.

No unregistered overnight guests; please ask us first if planning to bring guests at any time.

We enjoyed our stay. The garden was delightful to watch during breakfast. Juliette had good suggestions for places to visit.

My first Airbnb experience ever. Ed and Juliet welcomed me into their beautiful home and were such gracious and accommodating hosts. I was sad to leave them, and feel like I actually made some new friends. Their home is in a beautiful, safe, and quiet neighborhood. Ed and Juliet will leave you alone, if you wish, or engage in intelligent and interesting conversation. I'm generally not very social, but looked forward to coming 'home' to see my hosts every night during my week-long stay. I think Ed and Juliet really have this airbnb thing figured out, to which their many positive reviews testify. Ed and Juliet enjoy maintaining a beautiful backyard garden, with a nice deck. It is so perfect to sit outside and enjoy the birdsong on a nice day. Note that they understandably do not permit 'outside' shoes in the home. If you can obey this rule, and are not a slob, then these fine folks will welcome you into their home as well. Hats off to Ed and Julia!

Juliet and Ed were awesome. I had a good privacy and yet had a good communication. They are very decent and I will definitely come back. Everything was professionally clean and I had a private bathroom, which was a great pro. The location obviously was excellent, few mins from poplar ave. Probably the safest area in Memphis.

Highly recommend; comfortable home in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Juliet and Ed hit just the right note as hosts: welcoming and conversational over wine or coffee if you like, or will let you enjoy your privacy if that's what you prefer. They were very helpful with travel tips and restaurant recommendations as well

Juliet and Ed are literally super hosts. They have the whole Bed in Breakfast package figured out. This was the first place I have stayed at where they offer a provided breakfast (I know there are others out there but the extra mile here was great). The home made preserves were great! It is a structured place to stay, but it helps the host and guest get along and know what to expect from each other ahead of time so you can genuinely enjoy your stay when you get there. They took the time to sit and have a bottle of wine with us and just chat which was very relaxing after a 9 hour drive. They also offered good conversation throughout our stay. The home is beautiful inside and out - if you get the chance to come here, the garden was gorgeous in the winter, I can't imagine what'd it be like in the spring, summer or fall. There was surprisingly little traffic for being located off of a main road and being somewhat centrally located. We were able to make it to make it anywhere in town in about 20 mins at the max. We had a great time and highly recommend Juliet and Ed's place to anyone that wants to stay in Memphis.

As described, impeccably clean, very quiet, great shower, and comfortable room. Ed and Juliet were great hosts and had thought of all the thing we might need including space for our stuff. We will visit again and will recommend to friends and family visiting in the area.

Juliet And Ed User ProfileJuliet And Ed is a superhost.

Ed and I (Juliet) are both retired from careers in healthcare. I was born in England, but also lived for 22 years in Spain. I speak fluent Spanish, and reasonable French. Ed grew up in Ohio.
We love to travel and have visited many countries around the world. We also love using Airbnb, both as hosts and as guests. We are non-smokers and we have no pets. We like walking, swimming, gardening, visiting museums, live theater, good food and wine, good conversations. Ed likes to ride his bike (road bike) and if you bring your bikes, he can show you some places to ride - we're near the Greenline. And we'd love to share a cup of tea or glass of wine with you, and have a chat.

We are avid supporters of protecting the environment, and we try to practice sustainable living: we recycle, compost, grow some of our own vegetables and we try not to use paper products or similar "disposable" plastic products.
