About this listing
We invite you to come and stay in our beautiful, clean home, on a quiet street. Beautiful garden. Friendly hosts. Easy access to all parts of Memphis. No pets. Private bathroom, completely renovated July 2015. Light breakfast, customized to your preferences. Max. 3 people (in 2 rooms). You'll sleep very well here.
We can accommodate up to three guests traveling together, and we have two separate rooms. One of the rooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed with a good quality (firm) mattress, and freshly ironed cotton sheets. There's space for clothing in the dresser drawers and closet. The other room is just as big, but has a twin-sized (or "single") bed, but does not have any storage space, except for the table where you can put your suitcase. There are ceiling fans in both rooms. The full bathroom is right next door, and you'll have it all to yourself (towels, shampoo, soap are of course provided). It has been completed renovated in July 2015 to a high standard.
No other guests will be here during your stay. Please note that this is a two-story house, and the bedrooms and bathroom are all upstairs. It's our home and we live here too.
The basic price is for one or two people using the larger bed. If there is a third person, there is a small extra charge for using the second room. However, whenever both rooms are used, e.g. if two people each want their own room, the extra charge will be applied.
If you stay 4 nights or more, you can use the washer and dryer. Other things you might need (hairdryer, iron, etc) are always available, just ask.
What makes this home unique is the quiet, very safe location and beautifully landscaped back yard, best enjoyed in spring or fall, a gardener's delight.
If you're new to Airbnb, we recommend that you make an "inquiry" before making a reservation, and let us know a little about the purpose of your visit, etc. ALSO PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE A COMPLETED PROFILE AND PHOTO OF YOURSELF!
We can discuss any cooking you might want to do on an individual basis, and it won't usually be a problem.
Guests have access to everywhere in the house except our bedroom. The house is spacious, and you are welcome to use the living room to read, watch TV, or chat with us. There is a beautiful, secluded garden and deck where you can sit and have a drink. A self-serve light, healthy, breakfast is included in the price, and we always aim to adapt this to your preference.
Our kitchen is available for light cooking, just let us know ahead of time so we can plan.
Interaction with Guests
We have really enjoyed the diversity of our guests, and have had some great conversations over a drink or even dinner. We love friendly guests, that's what Airbnb is all about. But on the other hand, if you prefer to keep to yourself, that's just fine too. We will totally respect your privacy. We're mostly both at home in the evenings, but sometimes one or other of us will be out, or even away for the weekend.
This is a great location, an established, upscale, safe neighborhood, known as East Memphis. It's part of the city (not a suburb) and many people consider this the best part of Memphis. Our little street features nice homes, lots of trees and it's very quiet. You will sleep well here.
We are close to the Memphis Botanic Garden, and the Dixon Gallery.... and the only Whole Foods store in Memphis (great for take-out).
There are several excellent grocery stores less than a mile away, as well as many restaurants, nice shops, a movie theater, museums, parks, etc., all within 5-10 minutes drive. We're also near the Racquet Club, if you're here for a tennis tournament. We're about 15 mins away from Midtown, 25 mins to Downtown or Graceland. (It's a very easy drive, one straight road all the way downtown.)
We really recommend you bring your own vehicle (which you can safely park in our quiet, cul-de-sac street) or you can use Lyft or Uber (cab service). Bikes can be stored in our garage. We have been known to pick guests up at the bus or train station, or drive them somewhere whenever we are able (usually weekends but also on Wednesdays).
Other Things to Note
Check-in time is between 5 PM and 9 PM, please. Check-out is before noon. We do need to know your approximate arrival time, so we can be sure to be there to welcome you.
The person making the booking must be the same person who is staying, and we may ask to see photo ID if there is any doubt.
* Check-in is after 5:00 PM, and before 9:00 PM. (We can occasionally accommodate a different check-in time, e.g. at the weekend; please ask).
* Please be quiet after 10:30 PM (I get up early for work and I will be as quiet as I can).
* Sorry, no pets and no children under 10.
* No smoking inside the house, but careful smoking is allowed outside.
* Please, no "outside" shoes inside the house. Slipper-socks will be provided if you need them.
* Please put your luggage on the luggage rack or on the floor, and not on the clean bed.
* Only water to drink in the bedroom, and no food.
* And please... after you take a shower, don't leave the curtain pulled to one side, spread it out; Memphis humidity makes it easy for things to become mildewed.
The bedroom looks out over the back garden, so it's very quiet. The shutters can be fully closed to darken the room. Ceiling fan.
Wonderful hosts, beautiful home, and great location. This was one of the cleanest airbnb stays we have had. We would definitely stay again.
Juliet and Ed were very kind and helpful. The house is very beautiful, and its surrounding neighborhood is quiet, and only a fifteen minute drive to the downtown area. Juliet and Ed have set ways of doing things, which was much needed structure in the backbone of our trip.
Juliet was working late when we arrived but Ed took charge and gave us a warm and friendly welcome. Unfortunately, that was the last time we saw him for the stay as he was away. Juliet was a great host, and we really enjoyed our morning conversations with her. They had taken the time to contact us beforehand to enquire about breakfast which we really appreciated, especially as they happily accommodated us. The room was lovely, very comfortable. We would definitely Juliet and Ed, and their lovely home, to anyone staying in the area.
We had a wonderful 2 day stay at Juliet and Eds beautiful home. Everything is exactly as described. Both Juliet and Ed are great hosts and are genuinely interested in meeting people. We shared a nice bottle of wine on the garden patio before getting excellent recommendations for local restaurants. Breakfast was beautiful, nice coffee and healthy breads etc. Gracious hosts.
Had a great stay with Juliet and Ed! Communication was top notch, house exactly as described in the listing. You are given a welcome letter in your room with the house rules etc. on it. So you know exactly what is acceptable and what is not. Juliet has a lovely accent and we really enjoyed getting to know them over the next few days we were there. They are very knowledgeable of the area and gave great tips. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening talks on the patio. I would not hesitate to stay here again!
I and my wife had a great stay at the home. Everything was perfect, a clean room and a beautiful garden! Juliet and Ed had great hospitality. For example, they tried to understand our poor English (we are from Japan) and used easy English to enable us to make conversations smoothly. Also, we were greatly happy because of their gratitude to try to be familiar with a different culture, especially our Japanese culture. We highly recommend Juliet and Ed's home to everyone!
Juliet and Ed were beyond lovely hosts. They welcomed us into their home so warmly and are very well organised for guests. Our room was big and sunny and the bathroom is beautiful - both are immaculate!
Juliet organises a great breakfast in the morning which sets a beautiful tone for the whole day.
The neighbourhood is really pretty and very safe - lots of grocery stores etc nearby and an easy distance from attractions like Graceland and Sun Studios.
I would highly recommend staying with Juliet and Ed - they made our time in Memphis perfect !

About the Host, Juliet And Ed
Hi, I'm Juliet and Ed is my husband. We are active, adventurous baby-boomers!
We love to travel and have visited many countries in Europe and Latin America. We really enjoy using Airbnb, both as hosts and as guests. We are non-smokers; we like walking, swimming, gardening, reading, visiting museums, live theater, good food and wine, good conversations. Ed likes to ride his bike and in 2013 he rode halfway across the USA, from Chicago to Maine. Last year (2014) we both rode along the Danube, from Passau to Vienna. If you bring your bikes, Ed can show you some places to ride - we're near the Greenline. And if you like to cook, perhaps we can make dinner together one evening (I'm mostly vegetarian). We'd love to share a cup of tea or glass of wine with you, whatever your preference!
We are avid supporters of protecting the environment, and we try to practice sustainable living: we recycle, compost, grow some of our own vegetables. Don't be surprised that we only provide cloth napkins.
We don't have any pets. Ed is a retired pharmacist; I'm an occupational therapist, still working. I was born in England, and lived for many years in Spain. I speak fluent Spanish, and reasonable French. Ed is originally from Ohio. We have really enjoyed meeting all our Airbnb guests from all over the world ... And we'd love to meet you! Venez nous voir si vous parlez français! Si prefieren comunicarse conmigo en español, no hay problema!
