The location of this unit/Cobbler Square Lofts in Old Town is fantastic. The building itself has wonderful amenities (party room, gym, laundry, sun deck, pretty gardens) and the building staff are exceptionally friendly. JoAnne was very flexible and responsive to our needs (the blow-up mattress needed to be replaced). The lay-out of the unit was suitable though the bathroom is a one person at a time usage space. Also, the walls don't go all the way up to the ceiling (not for the bathroom either) so it is loft-like in that regard. Nice spacious terrace and again, GREAT building. It did get a little loud on summer weekend nights with folks on the sun-deck but it is city living. We enjoyed our stay but wished the unit itself wasn't so tired. A new coat of paint and new carpet is definitely needed and the couch and bed have seen much, much better days. The pull-out couch is not sleep-able (why we needed to use an air mattress for our teenage son) but the air mattress solved the problem. I would give it an A for location (restaurants, bars and grocery store all within walking distance as is Second City, Lincoln Park and the Lake) and for the building itself and a C for the unit so an overall B.
This place was underwhelming but adequate, but felt way overpriced for as much as we paid for it. Joanne was a great host and very responsive to our requests. However, you could tell that no one ever lived at this apartment and that it was only for rentals. The place was lacking a few things- for one, basic kitchen things like salt or oil, which would be easy and cheap to have for guests. The bathroom door came off the hinges and my boyfriend had to fix it, the couch was well-worn and not very comfortable, the bed was so awkwardly situated that we had to squeeze past it to get to the bathroom, there were 4 pillows but only 2 pillowcases, etc. Again, this place will do, it's in a very nice building and neighborhood, and JoAnne is very responsive, but the place itself is nothing more than a crash-pad.
Nice building, great location, great private patio. The unit was generally clean, but not luxuriously furnished. Carpet has plenty of stains. Kitchen is well stocked with whatever you would need to stay in and cook. Lots of entertainment options with a decent TV and two audio sound docks. Upon arrival at 7pm we found that someone was living in the unit. JoAnne called back within the hour to say that it was her stuff in the unit, and when we returned after dinner everything was in order with no problems. We booked on Friday at 8am, and arrived on Saturday at 7pm, so it was pretty short notice, and it seems like JoAnne just forgot or didn't notice the date or arrival when she confirmed the booking.
Overall, nice enough apartment. Book this one for the location right in Old Town, the rooftop deck, the large size of the apartment, hot tub, and cool historic factory building.
The loft was as described. I was in town on business and needed a place for the night. Joanne gave me this space as an option when I inquired about another space that was taken. Enjoyed the stay. Close to the lakeshore for my morning run and near Starbucks for my morning coffee.
This unit was perfect for us! The deck really makes it special, with a great view of the Chicago skyline. Also, the building is in an easily walkable neighborhood and has a unique style that we all enjoyed.
Place was nice, not very homey, needs some basic kitchen stuff.
Host was super helpful with scheduling and very nice!
JoAnne's loft space was as she described: it is in an excellent location with an amazing view of the city. The building and grounds are lovely and well kept. We enjoyed our stay in this space very much. When we arrived there was a problem with housekeeping, but JoAnne addressed that immediately. We would recommend this space to our friends.
