I can not begin to describe how incredible this experience was. First and foremost, Missy made us feel like welcome friends from the minute we made the registration. Her attention to detail is unmatched! Next, the property exceeded our expectations in every way. The minute you drive through the gate you feel relaxed. All the fruit trees are amazing and the home was meticulously furnished. Most importantly the bed was comfortable and the home had EVERYTHING we needed. Mahalo Missy!!!
Thank you Kathy for the wonderful comments and compliments! We have been renting our secret hideaway since 2001 with an occupancy rate of 85%. Who would have thought so many people from around the world would enjoy total seclusion from the rest of the world... in paradise! This place was just meant to be shared and all of our guests feel like family once they have experienced how special it really is. PLUS... Nothing better than a good nights rest!! We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Hale Aloha Aina and we hope you will have a chance to return. Please spread the word so we can continue to offer this sanctuary for all to enjoy! Much Aloha, Tom and Missy Powell
Very remote, very secluded. Highly recommend shopping in Hilo, Kona, or Ocean View Estates (great grocery there) BEFORE arriving. We shopped at Mizuno's in Pahala and made do with what we could find, which was fine. Bring a deck of cards, a book or a board game and prepare for a quiet time. Missy has the place stocked with everything you could need. Fresh gardenias and fruit in the cottage when we arrived. Close to Volcanoes NP and the black sand beach. It was a bit tricky communicating with Missy since I was one of the first airbnb renters but it all worked out fine. Lovely place, mahalo!
Heavenly. We had a wonderful time. The cottage is perfect and the property itself is breathtaking. We struggled to believe that this place could actually exist. The first morning we woke up with the sun streaming up the valley and straight into the cottage we were about as happy as two people could be.
The cottage is in a great location for sightseeing, black sand beaches, the volcano and the beautiful south eastern corner of the Big Island etc but to be honest, we found it hard to leave. Some of the prettiest scenery in all of Hawaii is right on your doorstep.
Our suggestion: pack some food, books, and whatever else you like and wipe your plans off the books. Stick around. Leave only when you feel like it. Breathe in the through the nose and out through the..........zzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz :-)

It is for the adventurous at heart, the explorer who enjoys alone time. Or it's perfect for providing quality time to celebrate their love for one another. It is a place of healing and nourishment for weary souls that need a break so they can recharge.
It is through her trusted friends and family that they can offer this exclusive hideaway and cater to the needs of their guests. Their housekeeper and groundsman are very conscientious in providing the best of service. They take pride in presenting an immaculately clean home and grounds often described as the Garden of Eden. The guests often mention a special thanks to Mona and Davin who take care of the hale while the owners are away.
