Very interesting experience! A nice boat docked close to a happening neighborhood with lots of food and shopping options at walking distance. Stanley park also footsteps away. Great location!
Nigel was very professional and welcoming. We had a good chat with him during checkin. Interesting guy. He also showed us where to find free parking around the area if we are willing to walk a couple of blocks.
The boat itself was cozy with pretty much all the basic amenities you'd expect. The toilet was a little tricky to operate but mainly because we haven't used a portable one before. It was fully functional and the shower and sink had warm water available. The kitchen was also fully functional. with a small sitting area with a couple of couches. The bed was a little small, but we didn't expect anything bigger in a boat anyways. Electric heaters were there to keep us warm during the night on water. The boat from inside is more like visiting a friend's place with his usual stuff still there, as opposed to a lush hotel room. So you'd want to set your expectations accordingly.
We experienced a small hiccup when we reached the dock very late at night and couldn't get the main gate open (for the docking station, not the boat). We thought we had the wrong key, but it turned out that we just needed to push the gate/lock a little to make to work.
Overall it was a very nice experience. If you are the adventurous sort and haven't really lived in a boat before, you'd most probably like it.
Great little space in a great part of town. Loved the way the boat rocked me to sleep, best night of shut eye I've had in a while.
My experience staying on Nigel's boat was outstanding! He was incredibly accommodating in meeting my schedule, helpful in showing me around and ensuring I was comfortable, and available for any questions I had.
The location of the boat/marina is brilliant as it's situated a 2 minute walk from the entrance to Stanley Park, and a 5 minute walk to Robson Street where you will find anything and everything you need for your stay.
The boat itself was incredibly comfortable for my stay, and comes equipped with a full kitchen if you should want to prepare any food onsite versus always eating out.
For a single person or couple (no more than 2 would fit comfortably in my opinion) wanting to experience life on a boat and explore Vancouver from the perfect location, this is unquestionably for you!
Absolutely incredible weekend, and I would stay on Nigel's boat again in a heartbeat should I find myself back in Vancouver!
Thank you so very much for your hospitality, I had an amazing time!!
Nigel was a great host, quite easy to deal with and accommodating. The location was ideal, minutes to the seawall and steps away from downtown Vancouver. If you are looking for an alternative accommodation that gives you a true coastal experience right on the water then the Funky Boat is an ideal choice. We will be back soon!
Nigel was a great host. Very prompt communication and friendly when we met up. His boat is lovely and very comfortable.
Nigel was great: The communication was clear and he was accommodating to our arrival time. The location was fantastic and it was a great value for an out-of-the ordinary stay in the city. It was a very rainy and cool weekend but we were snug and warm and had two fantastic nights of sleep. It was fun to watch the boat traffic and rowing shells from the end of the dock in the mornings. Those not familiar with a boat might be surprised at how compact on-board living can be, but once you get settled in you realize everything you need is very well accommodated. Great fun!
The stay was fantastic! The location, the accomodation, and the overall charm of the boat is definitely worth raving about. If one loves simplicity and peace, Nigel's Funky boat is certainly perfect. It is hard, if not impossible to find a more tranquil and relaxing place to stay in Vancouver.
NIgel to was great. He provided us with everything we needed and communication with him was clear and accomodating.
