  • Great location in downtown Vancouver. Funky boat is a bit like a motorhome on water, felt very safe in the marina. We absolutely loved cycling round the city and Stanley Park, loads of bikes for rent very close to the marina. Lovely chicken soup, thanks Nigel!

  • Well, my review is based on my experience with Nigel. I actually never checked in to the funky boat so I'm not able to review the boat itself. I was really looking forward to my first Airbnb experience as a guest, but I would not recommend staying here if your arrival time does not coincide with Nigel's check in window, which I believe was 11-4 if I remember correctly. He was not flexible and told me that my arrival time was unacceptable and that as a host I should know better. So in his defense, I will say I composed an email letting him know what time I would be arriving to Seattle which was 4:30pm and that we had to drive to Vancouver from Seattle which is another few hours. For some reason it never sent which I didn't know this until after the fact. In my defense, my flight was delayed which is not something that was in my control. So now we are getting in even later than our already unacceptable arrival time. As a paying guest, I feel I should be able to check in at anytime and as a host you must be accommodating for your guests. I make key arrangements if I'm unavailable for whatever reason so that my guests can arrive at their convenience as it should be. Long story short, he refused to check us in that evening and would only check us in the following morning at 7:30am meaning: we had to find other accommodations and then come back to the funky boat the following morning. Not to mention, I basically got off the plane in Seattle to learn he wasn't going to check us in via a text message and literally had to spend 3 hours on the phone trying to find alternate accommodations. This was completely unacceptable and we did not choose to take him up on this offer. Who wants to check in to alternate accommodations somewhere at 9pm when they are on vacation, have to wake up at 6am to then have to pack everything up and relocate especially on a weekend trip? He was unaccommodating, unapologetic, and then was only willing to refund us for one night. Everything was on his time and at his convenience. This is not what a host should be like!

    Response from Nigel:

I received a booking request from Coraly July 16th. My host page states 3pm check-in time. Because the boat is in a marina behind two locked gates, I am required to be present to provide guests with their initial entry. July 17th I emailed Coraly to clarify that she was welcome to arrive anywhere between 12 noon and 4pm. I did not hear back, so July 24th I emailed Coraly again and requested confirmation of her arrival time. Coraly responded to say she would check in around 8pm. This was 5 hours after my advertised check-in time, but I accepted this regardless. On her arrival day, Coraly texted at 330pm to say her travel had been further delayed. She had originally estimated travel time from Seattle to Vancouver as 3.5 hours, so now hoped to arrive around 9pm, not yet accounting for the border crossing (which can run 1-3 hours in peak summer hours), nor navigation, highway construction, etc. I was aware that realistically, then, Coraly would be arriving between 10pm and midnight, which I was unable to accommodate. I live a good distance from the boat, and have employment and young children to care for, and plan according to what has been communicated by the guest. Coraly made copious assumptions which were not accurate, i.e., that my posted check-in time is unintended, that all suites and hosts are accessible around the clock, that travel is unaffected by border crossing processes, construction, etc. These assumptions -unstated until after an issue arises- dramatically interfere with effective planning and communication. While I did flex to allow an arrival 5 hours after the advertised check-in time, I was unable to flex to the point of 10pm to midnight. I suggested Coraly find a place at the border, and check in the subsequent morning between 7am and 830am. She said this, too, did not work for her. Coraly then demanded a full refund for both nights. I had lost the opportunity to rent out the very popular suite for two nights, on what was essentially a "no show", yet flexed again to offer a 57% good faith refund. Coraly received the refunded amount then proceeded to post a very negative (and inaccurate) review. As a host who goes out of his way to be as clear as possible about check-in times, suite benefits and limitations, flex as much as possible on arrival times, provide a clean, comfortable, and safe suite, and support guests in their stay, I was deeply disappointed and frustrated in my experience with Coraly. This experience prompted me to follow up with all upcoming bookings to ensure I had clearly and responsibly communicated with all guests about the check-in window and other parameters -all confirmed they were fully aware of these and were planning accordingly. I have experienced no such issues with any other guest -this experience taught me to stick with guests who communicate clearly and responsibly and plan for the check-in time advertised.

  • I loved staying on Nigel's boat. The setting is gorgeous and the boat is funky and cosy. I loved being rocked to sleep every night in my comfy bunk. Nigel is very kind and went out of his way to be helpful. This was a fun experience and I hated to leave.

  • Nigels's boat is in the very center of the heart of Downtown/West Vancouver. Within minutes of walking are: 100+ cafes, coffee houses and restaurants, 5 bike rentals to choose from, Stanley Park, local library, shopping, (website hidden) get away from the traffic (and shopping) with immediate access to the Aquarium and beaches, Totem Pole Display, tour boat businesses, easy access to the highways to get to those far away places. My take is stay here while in Vancouver, rent a bike but remember you are in a boat with tight spaces. If this is for you then enjoy nights on the water in the quiet and peaceful harbor...yet a minute away is all the energy of the great city. Enjoy, Wayne

  • Nigel's boat was awesome!!! We stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a great alternative to a hotel room and cheaper too considering you get a whole boat to yourself! Very cosy with enough room for everything. He allowed us to use all the amenities for cooking etc which was great. We spent our late afternoons and nights on the roof of the boat just taking in the beautiful surroundings! The location was great for eating out and also enjoying everything Stanley Park had to offer. The host was lovely and offered to take us around and provided us with great tourist info - he even picked us up from our previous hotel. Highly recommend this funky boat and will be looking to stay here again! Thanks Nigel!
