Enjoy memorable, romantic days & nights in a tastefully-decorated, spacious platform bell tent in the woods of Western Mass. Set next to a large brook, surrounded by pines and hemlocks, two hiking trails on property and nearby - and only 30 minutes from Northampton. New bathhouse with composting toilet & hot shower. Adirondack chairs for chilling & firepit for grilling. Unplug and re-wild yourselves! Rest, rejuvenate, reconnect with nature! Check out our Hilltown Hideaway Cabin on airbnb, too.

The space
Set next to the convergence of a spring-fed stream and a small river where you can wade barefoot, the Hilltown Hideaway Riverside Camp is ideal for folks who want to enjoy the experience of camping amidst the beauty of the pristine woods and waters of Western Mass, yet still retain some creature comforts, too.

Sleeping can be the hardest thing about camping, so we have provided the bell tent with two brand new, incredibly comfortable and plush 10" foam twin beds (that can be placed next to each other to create a king sized bed if guests wish.)

*We just ask that guests bring their own bedding during 2021 due to COVID19!*

We've decorated the interior tastefully, with lovely imported kilim wool rugs and pillows, cozy sheepskins to keep you warm, and lit it all with unique solar and battery-operated lighting. There's two comfy, locally made Adirondack chairs to sit and watch the river, and a thick steel firepit that also doubles as a grill for cooking.

We have provided a basic kitchen for our guests, with grilling utensils, camp coffeepot, cast iron dutch oven and fry pan, plus enamel cups, bowls, plates, knives, utensils, and cutting board. We also give guests a big container with four gallons of fresh drinking water, too. We've tried to think of everything to make your experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible - but if you are the kind of camper who likes to bring your own gear, you are very welcome to bring it along and keep our gear stowed. Still, if your are missing anything, we live right up the hill, so just ask us for help.

New for 2021: you'll have access to our new off-grid bathhouse with composting toilet, sink, and an on-demand hot shower! It's made out of local pine, and has been situated in a beautiful and private place less than a minute's walk from the tent.

Location

Chesterfield, Massachusetts, United States

There's something really special about the Hilltowns of Western Mass. It's not just the beauty of this place, it's also the people, who are friendly but not obtrusive. You'll find lovely places to hike, fish, swim, and simply enjoy nature - but you can also find great little restaurants and pubs, funky general stores, a wood fired pizza and bakery, and a great 9 hole public golf course, all less than 15 minutes away. The Chesterfield Gorge is only a mile away from the property, and it is truly one of the wonders of New England. It also boasts a miles long hiking trail along the Westfield River, with plenty of places to swim and fish, that is hard to beat.

The best thing about this location is that it is smack dab between The Pioneer Valley/Five College Area and the Berkshires - 30 minutes to Northampton, 30 Minutes to Pittsfield, 30 minutes to Berkshire East Resort, 60 minutes from Lenox/Tanglewood, 45 minutes from Jacob's Pillow, 45 Minutes from MassMOCA, and 60 minutes from the Clark. Great Barrington is an hour and 15 minutes away, too. The views along any of these drives are of woods, and waters, small mountains and tiny villages, and part of the joy of being here is actually driving around here and taking in the scenery!

During your stay
It's self check-in, but we like to say hello to all our guests within the first day of their stay, to see if everything is good and to answer any questions you might have - but we also like to respect our guest's privacy, too. Along with the tent, there are two permanent houses on the property - our private home (a large log cabin at the top of the hill) and a smaller guest cabin about a football field away from the campsite, which we rent to other Airbnb guests or share with friends and family. We've thoughtfully made sure that ALL the properties - our log cabin, the guest cabin, the campsite/bell tent, and even the bathhouse - are well-distanced from each other enough to retain a sense of privacy for everyone who stays here.

The property totals about 100 acres; 6 of it around the campsite and homes are open land, but the rest of it almost fully wooded. We have begun making hiking trails in 2020, and by Summer 2021 we will have a couple of marked hiking trails, which guests are welcome to enjoy. The entire property is home to a small flower farm as well. During the summer months, we sometimes provide our guests with a bouquet of fresh flowers, too.

If guests have any questions, we're just a short walk away! And if you have an emergency and need to get to a phone or wifi, we offer those amenities to guests as needed.
