Located in Hornsby on the upper north shore of Sydney, this is the perfect bushland getaway. Built on stilts into the rock face, this 2 bedroom + study family home overlooks true Australian bush. From the main deck you feel you are in a tree house and very, very far away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
Forget your alarm clock as you will be woken up by the resident kookaburras whilst rosella parrots will join for you breakfast on the deck. A fire place (complete with fire wood) is at your disposition in the cooler months along with reverse cycle air conditioner and gas heaters.
In this Kookaburra Tree House, you will have your very own oasis complete with two extremely comfy queen beds, fast wireless internet, cable TV and all the kitchen utilities to cook up a storm! Quality bedsheets and bath towels are provided for all guests. The house is perfect for entertaining with an outdoor BBQ that can be used all year. Eating on the deck overlooking the Australian gumtree bush is a lovely way to either start your day or wind down after exploring the nearby national parks.
The house is located on Sydney's north shore which is a 40min drive to the city centre. It is ideally located to explore beautiful Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and the Hawkesbury River. If you are after the beach however, the scenic Northern Beaches (Dee Why, Newport, Narrabeen) are a 35min drive.
Transport: the house is located 2kms away from Hornsby Train Station and 1.5kms away from the main road leading to the city or the Australian north coast. For convenience and ease of access (as well as the freedom the explore the surroundings), we recommend that our guests arrive by car.

The stay was wonderful. Lived up to expectations. It's a beautiful spot. Very quiet and had all the amenities we required. While we didn't meet Daniel, he was always contactable.
What a beautiful getaway from the city! We loved the privacy of the house and in the morning we we visited by four cockatoos and two rosellas on the balcony. The place was clean, tasteful and our host was accommodating and friendly. Loved it!
Once again an awesome stay. It just gets better and better. Chocolates on your bed and all the mod cons for a superb visit. Feels like staying with an old friend now being my I think my 4th visit. Had friends over for dinner, stylish and relaxed just like we would have at home. Quiet and laid back neighbourhood which adds to the charm. As well as many small French touches that resonate personally for me....French in laws and sons first bday being in Paris. So much a home away from home x
What a beautiful home! I was looking for a quiet place to do some writing and this house fit the bill perfectly. In the day I could sit on the balcony overlooking the bush and in the evening I could curl up next to the fire. I never met Daniel and Stephanie but they were wonderful hosts. Totally exceeded my expectations in every way :)
We enjoyed our stay at Kookaburra Retreat in April of 2013. Daniel and Stephanie left us cereals, milk, coffee and tea for breakfast, which was greatly appreciated. The house was comfortable and very roomy. The birds in the area were amazing, we loved seeing them in the trees. We had a car and it was easy to drive everywhere, or park and take the train into Sydney, or other destinations. The area is very quiet and we had excellent communication with our hosts via emails.
Fantastic stay once again! I absolutely love this place! For anyone wanting somewhere wonderful, this is a must. Thank you!
I would highly recommend the Kookaburra Bush Retreat to anyone visiting the Sydney area. The house is beautiful, the rooms spacious and comfortable, the decks very private, and we loved having all the birds right outside in the tree tops - kookaburras, numerous parrots, and many other birds.
This is such a lovely property, so glad that I stayed. Sitting on the balcony in the afternoon with a glass of wine with nothing but the sights and sounds of cockatoos, kookaburras and bell birds in a bush setting is quite a surreal experience with the hustle and bustle of Sydney not too far away.
Daniel and Stephanie are wonderful hosts, in ensuring that you have everything you need and making themselves easily contactable for any you requests you might have whilst giving you maximum privacy while you are there.
Highly recommended and I will definately be back to stay again!
I stayed at The Kookaburra Bush Retreat for five days with my friend. It is exactly like the description. We were working on my graduation project and used Kookaburra as a location for my film.
The location is not very from Hornsby station so it is easy for me to pick up crew there or go shopping.
Daniel is a really nice host to deal with.
Just love to go back there again and relax like on a holiday rather than working like a workaholic on my project.
