Andy and Sherry were very welcoming hosts! Upon arrival, there were soft slippers waiting for us. The house and our room were very beautiful and impeccably clean! They both made sure to answer any questions, and Andy even showed us a safer route for our travels to NYC. Breakfast was delicious; Sherry went above and beyond to bake us some oatmeal that we got to take on the road with us! We had a lovely stay at the Home of Peace!
My experience at the Home of Peace with Sherry and Andy was a dream. I was so exhausted and they let me do whatever I needed to do. The bed was incredibly comfortable (I slept SO well) and the room was warm. Sherry was kind enough to pack me breakfast as I ran out the door. The most impressive part about them was that they really looked out for me the next day, as there was a storm and the roads were terrible.
If you're still perusing listings for central PA, STOP! Request to book Home of Peace. I could not have asked for a better location for my getaway. I'm somewhat local (I live in nearby Lancaster) and I was looking for a quiet place for a solitary writing retreat.
The upstairs--which was exactly as described in the listing--was clean and comfortable. I set up my writing area in the bunk bed room, and used the other (the loft room) for reading, outlining and sleeping. There was plenty of space for me to set up a little area for my food I brought from home, and if I had wanted to, lots of space to put away clothes in the dressers. Great lighting, cozy pillows and nice decor. (Even sleep masks and ear plugs available!)
The upstairs, made more private with a curtain, was spacious for one person (and would also be comfortable for a couple or small family), especially since I did not leave! I was a hermit for three days and got a LOT of work done. It truly was peaceful.
Breakfast was a delight. Each morning , Andy and Sherry left out a variety of items, including homemade specialties. During my three day stay, I sampled baked oatmeal, banana bread and stone-cut oats (with a little topping bar!). Waking up to these items was more than I could have asked for in a self-serve breakfast. I even learned a new way to make coffee! The eat-in kitchen (a designated common area) was bright and airy and, as I ate, I admired a large map of the world. I did not spend time down there, aside from breakfast, but the kitchen and living room (great windows!) were available to me had I wanted to bring my laptop down. My visit was in February (during snow) so the deck wasn't really an option--Bummer! It looked great, and past reviews praised it.
Finally, aside from the great house and comfortable room, it's really the hosts that made my stay. Andy and Sherry were friendly and accommodating and were nice to talk to, but yet gave me space. I would have loved to have talked to them more about their travels, but I was on a mission to get writing done. :) Next time (because there will be a next time), I'll converse more!
I'd also like to point out that Andy and Sherry had a TON of local information ready for visitors in a nice, organized station upstairs. Since I wasn't traveling and live locally, I didn't need to use it. But I perused anyway and must say the places they suggest are must-sees, so definitely take them up on suggestions. (Ex: El Serrano to eat, and Queen St. shops in Lancaster, like Building Character.)
I've used up all of my available words in this review; I think that says something about my positive experience at Home of Peace! It was my first Airbnb and I think they set the bar high!
Andy and Sherry were awesome hosts! We were delayed by traffic and didn't arrive until an hour later, but our gracious host Andy stayed up and waited for us! Very peaceful and comfy stay:)
It was only one night but it capped off our Valentine's weekend in peace and quiet. Everything was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The baked oatmeal and French press coffee topped off our stay perfectly. We would highly recommend Andy & Sherry's place to anyone coming to York.
We stayed here over Thanksgiving to visit relatives in the area. Andy was an incredible host. He really went above and beyond to help us out--there was a snow storm in the area that messed up our plans and he even offered to lend us his 4WD vehicle for use. We're so grateful for his generosity!
He made his famous and delicious (see other reviews) baked oatmeal for breakfast one day and also cooked up eggs and toast another morning. We felt very taken care of!
The space was warm and cozy, and we had ample privacy. Check in and check out process was smooth.
Andy and Sherry made me feel very welcome. Which is amazing because they weren't there. Oatmeal in the AM if I wanted, as well as tea/coffee. Bottled water. A book of suggestions which I appreciated though lack of free time did not permit me to take advantage of any of the wonderful thoughts that went into compiling it.
The home is very clean. The beds comfortable. The deck gorgeous.
You can feel the love in the home they created.
Perhaps some day my wife and I will stop in on our way home in Maine from Kentucky.
