  • Staying with Nanan and Chris was wonderful. We felt safe and cared for, and the room and house was comfortable, clean with everything one might need being available. Nanan was the perfect host and Chris was full of information and even took us to our next destination in Boston. If we had had more time we would have liked to know the Coughlins better. We would definitely go back again.

  • Nanaan and Chris were great hosts while my boyfriend and I searched for a new apartment in the Somerville/Cambridge area. If you are okay with walking (as my boyfriend and I are) the place is in great walking distance to most areas of greater Boston (but there are busses close by for those who don't like walking).

While the Newport Rm is private (comfy, clean, and spacious), you do share the floor with other tenants and guests. While this is slightly inconvenient as some times, I think for the affordable price its a non-issue. The other tenants when I stayed were from all over the world and very interesting and kind people.

Most of all, Nanan and Chris are very welcoming and helpful hosts. Can't recommend them enough!

  • Nanan and Chris ... Probably among the nicest people we have ever met! A warm and smiling welcome, great sincerity and enthusiasm ... being at home before having set foot in the house!
Nanan is generous with good advices to explore and discover Boston and surrounding areas. Chris is available and ready to teach us Boston's history with passion.
The room is very spacious and comfortable ! The common areas are very clean and functional . We also give a good note for washing machine and dryer !
Once the operation of the T - Nanan is there to explain bus and subway lines, with a clear plan drawn by herself :-) - we visited Boston and Cambridge easily. We even received a parking permit in their street for our car ! Tranquility assured ! Especially since the neighborhood is very quiet .
No hesitation for our next visit to Boston we'll come back to the house of Nanan and Chris !

  • If you're looking for a home away from home, do consider this location. Nanan and her husband were warm and hospitable and ensured that i was not found lacking in any way. They were so kind to pick me up from the airport and took me out to dinner after a 17 hour flight. It was my first time starting out in Boston and they were patient to answer my questions and ease my transition into this country.

As i am travelling alone, security was a concern but the neighbourhood although quiet is safe as there are many families with young children in the area. During the day you find children playing along the road.

Accessiblity was a bit of a chore initally because u needed to take 2 buses to town or a bus and a train. But when you get used to the irregularity of the bus schedules, it becomes a non-issue.

Amenities provided exceeded expectations. I like to cook and was pleased to find that the kitchen was fully furnished and there were some spices available for our use.

There were other people staying in the other rooms in the house. Nanan ensured that we were introduced so that we would not be living like strangers in the same house. I appreciated this.

Overall, i had a positive experience.

  • Nanan has an amazing home, and is such a gracious and welcoming host! If I go back to Boston and need a place to stay, I would definitely stay with her again.

I was going up to visit a few friends who lived about a mile away from Nanan's home. My friend and I stayed with Nanan, and it was a great place to relax, and does feel like a second home.

  • Nanan and Chris were wonderful hosts-- warm and welcoming.

There was once when I accidentally locked myself out of the bedroom, and both of them happened to be out in town. When I told Chris about my predicament, he immediately drove 30 minutes across Boston to open my room door for me without complaint.

The property is well maintained and clean, and you have access to a full sized kitchen and living room. Feels like living in someone's house.

If I had to be really critical, the only downside is the location of the property. It is a 15 minute walk to the T-stops.

But overall, this is a great place and good value for money.

  • Nanan and Chris were wonderful hosts. They graciously picked us up from the train station, offering us a tour of the area and pointing out some local points of interests. Nanan had bus routes and schedules and maps available for us. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and spacious. We stayed in the Newport Room and it was as described. The bed is firm (my preference) and the room included a desk, dresser, and walk-in closet, so there would be plenty of storage if you had an extended stay.

Staying with the Coughlins provided us with a local's perspective while still allowing us to do the touristy things. The bus stops less than 3 minutes away will take you to the T, where you're minutes away to the heart of downtown Boston or to Harvard Square. We were able to enjoy more space than we would have had at a hotel, at a better rate, and more flexibility. We didn't leave until late in the evening and we were able to keep our luggage at the home and use the home until we left.

All in all, the Coughlins made our trip to Boston a wonderful experience and I would definitley recommend their place to anyone! I hope to visit again and will hope that their place is available.
