The Space

Hostel Earphoria is a unique guesthouse in Logan Square Chicago, specifically designed for musicians. We have transformed an entire house into an urban rest stop for musicians on the road, giving them a space to stay, play, practice, record, collaborate and perform.

Hostel Earphoria is a single family home with 10 (website hidden) spaces, 5 private rooms and one bathroom. There is a community kitchen, living room, dining area, finished basement, back yard and deck.

Staying at Hostel Earphoria:
In addition to contacting us through Airbnb, we also request that introduce yourself to the community by posting a message on Hostel Earphoria's timeline on Mark Zuckerberg's popular social network. Tell us where you are from and what brings you to Chicago and when, how you are involved in music (we love audio-video links), and what you are looking forward to during your visit. We will reply promptly and let you know if we are able to accommodate your request. If you have a time sensitive request you may inquire via phone/text to Ben at (phone number hidden).

If you are looking for the formal experience you would enjoy in a hotel, Hostel Eaphoria is not for you. We are for those that are more "adventure travel" oriented, who want to learn about the communities they pass through and be a part of the real Chicago music scene.

- Family style breakfasts and dinners are often cooked by hosts, friends and guests of Hostel Earphoria. New guests are encouraged to participate.

Hostel Earphoria offers several spaces for collaborating:

The Playroom
Featuring an upright antique piano, acoustic guitars and several percussion instruments and an iMac with Logic and Final Cut for audio/video recording/editing. The PLAYroom is the perfect space for low-fi jams and impromptu performances. You'll often find musicians jamming together or DJ-ing. For the visual artists, an easel and supplies is provided. Our walls are filled with paintings and drawings done by the community.

The Bassment
The basement is a multi-functional room that serves as a shared performance space, practice area, recording studio and sleeping space. It is set up like a lounge with a stage at back with 6 couches and a very comfortable giant bean bag. There are plush carpets on the floor which makes everything cozy. To the back there is a 30x10 carpeted floor stage with low 5.5 celling. Bands are welcome rent the Bassment for rehearsal from 12pm-10pm (no drums/base after 10pm on weeknights and 12am on weekends).

The Playground
Our lovely outdoor space in the back has a small deck and yard. There is a garden that provides the house with fresh vegetables. Hang in the hammock or sit in the grass. A small bungalow with seating under the deck surrounds an "easy to load gear in" entrance. Designated smoking areas away from our neighbors windows. This is open from 8am-12am on weeknights and 2am on weekends (no drums after 10pm).

  • According to my rep Daniel, the stay at Earphoria was great! The place is as it is advertised & Jules (et al) were very accommodating. Definitely keeping it as an option for future trips to Chi.

  • I was lucky enough to be staying at Hotel Earphoria for the Logan Square Folk Festival, which was right in the backyard! So many cool people and great music. And it's in a super convenient location in Logan Square. Just walk down Milwaukee for coffee shops, bars and restaurants galore. Prudence and Giant Cat (I can't remember her name, sorry!) were wonderful housemates. Jules was also nice enough to let me extend my stay when my other plans fell through. Thanks!!

  • This place is incredible! It's marketed as a music hostel and it certainly didn't disappoint. Jules (who is so helpful and accommodating) and her crew are all musically minded and put on some excellent stuff most Saturday nights. I have no hesitations in recommending Earphoria to anyone interested in a different hostel vibe.

  • Jules is a great hostess! Originally in town for a business meeting, I extended my trip for a day, but didn't know anyone in Chicago. I was looking for a place where I could hang out with good company, but also have the flexibility to explore the city. Jules' place is full of creativity and warmth. As soon as I arrived, some members of the music hostel community walked me (email hidden) for a quick dinner. There was a show at the hostel that night, so I got lots of great company to converse with, plus a really tasty homemade beer. In addition, breakfast was served hot off the griddle when I woke up Sunday morning. Finally, I have to mention that Jules gave me her transit card so that I could go downtown for a show without paying cab fares. So thoughtful!
Thank you, Jules! You and your community were one of the great highlights of my trip!

  • My girlfriend and I booked a room at the Earphoria Hostel for 7 nights, traveling from NYC. We're both musicians and were excited to be able to use the equipment set up in the basement as shown in the pictures; upon arriving there was nothing to be found downstairs and only an acoustic guitar and upright piano upstairs; disappointing to say the least. If I were 20 again and still in college I'd probably have few complaints but the bedroom and common areas were not at all what we were hoping for/expecting based on the pictures and price; we stayed for a night and moved elsewhere for the rest of the week. After discussing the situation, Jules was fair enough to provide us with a full refund for the remaining 6 nights.

On the plus side, we met a handful of really great people/musicians in our one day/night at the hostel and ended up hanging with a few of them even after we had switched locations.

If you're looking to meet some fellow musicians while passing through for a night or two and don't mind a messy, communal dorm-style space, you'll be fine here; check with Jules first regarding instrument availability; pictures provided do not accurately reflect what you'll be getting upon arrival.

  • I had a great time hanging out with the people at Earphoria. There' s a really lovely vibe there, a great cross section of conversationalist and some bitchin' music to be had.

  • Hostel Earphoria (email hidden) to stay if 1) you are on a budget, 2) you love music, and 3) you want to meet some chill people. The weekend my friends and I visited, we stayed up all night listening to live beats, playing board games, and jamming. As hosts, Jules and her housemates were very accomodating. One made us french toast; another took us to a local hot dog joint. On a side note, their animals are really cute! Definitely worth it.

  • The hostel provides a fun and entertaining space. All the people who stay here are extremely respectful and kind. The hosts provide full breakfast, and great conversation. They are understanding and make your stay amazingly comfortable and I would highly recommend this location. It is an experience worth making while in the Chicagoland area. You will not find a better value, and as much musical education in one area as at this location.
