The space

Hostel Earphoria is a unique guesthouse in Logan Square Chicago, specifically designed for musicians. We have transformed an entire house into an urban rest stop for musicians on the road, giving them a space to stay, play, practice, record, collaborate and perform.

If you are looking for the formal experience you would enjoy in a hotel, Hostel Earphoria is not for you. We are for those that are more "adventure travel" oriented, who want to learn about the communities they pass through, make friends, and be a part of the real Chicago music scene.

Hostel Earphoria is a single family home with 10 (website hidden) spaces, 5 private rooms and one bathroom. There is a community kitchen, living room, dining area, finished basement, back yard and deck.

Staying at Hostel Earphoria:
In addition to contacting us through Airbnb, we also request that introduce yourself to the community by posting a message on Hostel Earphoria's timeline on Mark Zuckerberg's popular social network. Tell us where you are from and what brings you to Chicago and when, how you are involved in music (we love audio-video links), and what you are looking forward to during your visit. We will reply promptly and let you know if we are able to accommodate your request. If you have a time sensitive request you may inquire via text to Rae at

- There are 2 friendly cats: Reggie (always hungry & thinks he's a dog) & Millie (strangely illusive yet endearing)

Visiting Hostel Earphoria

Interaction with guests

Hostel Earphoria offers several spaces for collaborating:

The Playroom
Featuring an upright antique piano, acoustic guitars and several percussion instruments and an iMac with Logic and Final Cut for audio/video recording/editing. The PLAYroom is the perfect space for low-fi jams and impromptu performances. You'll often find musicians jamming together or DJ-ing. For the visual artists, an easel and supplies is provided. Our walls are filled with paintings and drawings done by the community.

The Bassment
The basement is a multi-functional room that serves as a shared performance space, practice area, recording studio and sleeping space. It is set up like a lounge with a stage at back with 6 couches and a very comfortable giant bean bag. There are plush carpets on the floor which makes everything cozy. To the back there is a 30x10 carpeted floor stage with low 5.5 celling. Bands are welcome rent the Bassment for rehearsal from 12pm-10pm (no drums/base after 10pm on weeknights and 12am on weekends).

The Playground
Our lovely outdoor space in the back has a small deck and yard. There is a garden that provides the house with fresh vegetables. Hang in the hammock or sit in the grass. A small bungalow with seating under the deck surrounds an "easy to load gear in" entrance. Designated smoking areas away from our neighbors windows. This is open from 8am-12am on weeknights and 2am on weekends (no drums after 10pm).

The neighborhood

Boasting gorgeous boulevards and a constantly expanding selection of restaurants and bars, Logan Square is one of the city's trendiest and fastest growing neighborhoods, balancing family-friendly amenities with a thriving nightlife. Walk along Milwaukee Avenue and you'll find cocktail bars, gastropubs, and cantinas as well as dive bars and late night eateries, all packed with young crowds watching local bands or playing vintage arcade games. The variety of diversions present in Logan Square attracts record lovers, musicians, pinball wizards, artists, and dining aficionados to this scenic section of Chicago.

Getting around

We are a few short blocks away from the Logan Square Blue line train that will take you from O'hare Airport to Downtown and everywhere in between. We are about a 20 minutes train ride to/from the airport or to the downtown area. A bus stop that goes east & west is located directly outside our home. If you didn't want to deal with public transit a Lyft or Uber are always near by to scoop you up. Taxis frequent the closest intersection that is a block away.

Logan Square was such a cool neighborhood to spend my short time in Chicago; I really enjoyed all the great food, shops, and people in the area. I definitely felt safe and access to public transportation was basically outside the front door. The unfortunate part about Earphoria is that it didn't live up to the hype that other reviewers gave it. The pictures shown are not accurate - it is quite messy ("dirty" even) and the room pictured is not the room I was given. I was awoken twice during my first night by two or three of the seven people living in the house, and then kept awake my second night by someone playing piano until 1:00am. I am a musician myself, so I understand the need to practice, but the noise levels were often excessive. The people I spoke to in the house, however, were very friendly, but I do think there are some issues of tidiness and noise to be addressed.

I arrived a little early and texted Ben, who guided me there by phone and helped me get inside. The people I met inside, heck all of the people who live there or visited there while I was staying are just fantastic human beings. They were generous, kind, played wonderful music and invited over friends and all the guests for a great potluck where everyone had fun. I really felt like I was with new friends and this will be the only place I'll be staying in Chicago from here-on-out. The room was great, it was clean, it was taken care of and I just felt very welcomed. They had bathroom supplies, towels, everything we could need. I felt bad because I was so busy I had neglected doing any chores to help out while there, but I did go ahead and buy some beer for the potluck and help clean the bathroom at the end of my stay. They didn't demand anything, instead they offered whatever they could to help me be happy. Honestly: this place just ruled, might be one of my best travel experiences ever.

I was lucky enough to be staying at Hotel Earphoria for the Logan Square Folk Festival, which was right in the backyard! So many cool people and great music. And it's in a super convenient location in Logan Square. Just walk down Milwaukee for coffee shops, bars and restaurants galore. Prudence and Giant Cat (I can't remember her name, sorry!) were wonderful housemates. Jules was also nice enough to let me extend my stay when my other plans fell through. Thanks!!
