Description

The Space

We are updating the interiors and exterior areas for 2016, with new soft furnishings and completely updating, after listening to advise from guests, so we aim to offer a fabulous relaxed and lovely enviroment for the coming season. Our home easily accommodates 6 people in comfort it is a large and relaxed home, whilst keeping many traditional features, it is very tasteful I have a great interest in Interior design and this is reflected in the house.
The beds are all extremely comfortable and the courtyard is breathtaking, we love it and am sure you will to.
We are keeping 2015 prices.
In the village is Taverna Oasis a wonderful traditional place to eat overlooking the valley, they do not have a menu, you have the food that Tassoulla has prepared that day and the charcoal grill local village wine and salads from their own garden, it is a real Cretan Taverna mainly undiscovered by tourists and literally 1 minute from our house.
Our home is very beautiful and a true indication of life in Crete, we want our guests to really feel and live like a true Greek, the village is lovely and the views are amazing.
The house is in a rural location this is for people who want to experience a real village house, we want every one to feel relaxed, our house is quirky and I feel shows our love and personality, from the art painted by myself and Dan so it is very personal and the items we have reclaimed, we have approached in a very sensitive manner, when we renovated it we researched and used lime mortar so the house can breathe, the courtyard is an oasis and so beautiful. Everything was done by us, we started with a stone ruin and rebuilt it with as much love as we could, we are at this moment compiling a full guest book with a written and photographic history of all the works we did, it was definitely not for the faint hearted , I hope deeply that you love it as much as we do.
We include towels and all bedding for your stay.
This year we will be renting the whole house which includes 3 bedrooms and a beautiful fully fitted kitchen with all amenities you could want. It has a large lounge areas with sofas and tv .
We are strictly no smoking inside the house however we do permit it within the courtyard.
This is our home primarily and as such the house still has many things we used in our everyday life, including lots of kitchen equipment. The cupboards have many dry goods and herbs and spices etc and you are more than welcome to use.
Also there are herbs growing in the courtyard please feel free to use, we have a huge passion fruit as well and if it fruiting please help yourselves.

Lovely traditional old village stone house primarily our home.
As you walk through the arch the courtyard with small pool is before you, with seating area and chairs to take eat at you leisure. The avli ( courtyard)
can be accessed from the kitchen and french doors from the ground floor bedroom also up the stone staircase to the master suite.

The mester room has ceiling fan and the breeze from the sea, so is very comfortable to sleep.

The room is No Smoking , the upstairs has wooden decking and rugs so we must insist No Smoking.

A cool box is available for you for beer and picnics on the beach, this is kept under the sink, also wine glasses plastic for use in the pool for safety purposes in the left cupboard.
After the summer crowds have left Crete returns to its normal pace. The weather can be a little unpredictable but we still have wonderful sunny days and its not unheard of for people to still swim here in November. The town of Rethymno is still bustling with restaurants and shops open. It really is a wonderful time to visit if sunbathing is not of the utmost importance.
Early spring we have the wild flowers and the lush green landscapes, that disappear as the sun get hotter and the days longer. it truly is a remarkable place to come all year round.
The village is only 7.9 km from the Historical city of Rethymno, and 3 km to beautiful beaches and is centrally located to access both airports, Chania and Heraklion and archeological sites and beautiful beaches.

We are extremely lucky to have a wonderful taverna selling real cretan cuisine a couple of minutes walk from our home, and a kafenion and small supermarket nearby. Due to its rural location, it also offers the opportunity for amazing local walks.
Both our accommodation and our location are really something special and are ideal for people seeking authenticity and something different from their holiday.
We are about 3km walk to beaches, and being very central access to the whole island .The bus service from the village of Adele is frequent hourly to Rethymno where you can access buses to the whole island.
We have renovated the house ourselves from a ruin, to its current state without outside help, learning new skills on the way...The house was derelict when we moved in and we would love to advise anyone considering this route it truly has been a labor of love.We would be delighted to welcome you to our home.

Both our accommodation and our location are really something special and are ideal for people seeking authenticity and something different from their holiday.
We are located very near to the monastery at Arkadi and many other significant tourist sites and we have information books on request. We can help and advise if hire cars are required and in any way help with your requirements and are always on hand to help.
To find us you need to be on the Arkadi Monastery road, you will reach the village of Adele and see a kiosk selling drinks etc, and a bus stop opposite, when you arrive here I will supply my telephone number and collect you as only a couple of minutes away.
This is for the more discerning traveller not wanting the package style of holiday but you will leave relaxed and refreshed.

Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometre-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea. After all, it's among the finest in the world and has established Crete as one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations. And, of course, the island's historic importance in today's world as the home of the Minoan civilization with important archaeological finds at Knossos, Phaistos and Gortys, is evidenced by the tens of thousands of visitors to these sites each year.
However, Crete is the largest island in Greece - the fifth largest in the Mediterranean - and, within its diverse area of more than 8,000 square kilometers, there are many other jewels just waiting to be discovered by the more adventurous explorers of holiday treasures.

If you haven't visited Crete yet, this summer may be the time to come and discover this fascinating Greek island. If it captures your heart, don't worry. Come back next year and Crete will welcome you once more with its smiling Cretan sun, the sounds of the Cretan lyre, the scents of orange blossom and jasmine, a slice of cool red watermelon and a glass of iced raki.

Looking forward to summer and all the great times Jackie and Dan.
