The Space

Lovely traditional old village stone house primarily our home in Crete and in this respect we offer a very personal, but unobtrusive experience.
The room is accessed across the courtyard by the external staircase and is entered by the original Cretan door. It offers a super king size four poster bed, draped in muslin, ensuite wetroom, a lounge area with television and refrigerator ,two sunbeds and table and chairs on a spacious balcony with amazing seaviews total suite area approx 50 sq mtr ,We have a DVD, and surround sound system and are constantly upgrading for your comfort. We are installing a Wood Burner so it can be rented throughout the year,

The room has two ceiling fans and the breeze from the sea, so is very comfortable to sleep.

The room is No Smoking but we do permit smoking in the courtyard area, and supply ashtrays the upstairs has wooden decking and rugs so we must insist No Smoking.

All with private access.through the beautiful courtyard with small spa pool,.We can offer breakfast at your chosen time, for 6 euros per person with coffee and fresh juice, village bread,Cretan cheese, local honey and yoghurt and more....A cool box is available for you for beer and picnics on the beach, and there will be a chilled bottle of wine or Retsina for your arrival in the fridge.

After the summer crowds have left Crete returns to its normal pace. The weather can be a little unpredictable but we still have wonderful sunny days and its not unheard of for people to still swim here in November. The town of Rethymno is still bustling with restaurants and shops open. It really is a wonderful time to visit if sunbathing is not of the utmost importance.
Early spring we have the wild flowers and the lush green landscapes, that disappear as the sun get hotter and the days longer. it truly is a remarkable place to come all year round.
The village is only 7.9 km from the Historical city of Rethymno, and 3 km to beautiful beaches and is centrally located to access both airports, Chania and Heraklion and archeological sites and beautiful beaches.

We are extremely lucky to have two wonderful tavernas selling real cretan cuisine a couple of minutes walk from our home, and a kafenion and small supermarket. Due to its rural location, it also offers the opportunity for amazing local walks.
Both our accommodation and our location are really something special and are ideal for people seeking authenticity and something different from their holiday.
We are about 3km walk to beaches, and being very central access to the whole island .The bus service from the village of Adele is frequent hourly to Rethymno where you can access buses to the whole island.
We have renovated the house ourselves from a ruin, to its current state without outside help, learning new skills on the way...The house was derelict when we moved in and we would love to advise anyone considering this route it truly has been a labor of love.We would be delighted to welcome you to our home.
We want you to feel as relaxed as possible during your stay but please remember we have two dogs we have rescued from the street so if you are not an anilmal lover maybe this is not the place for you..

Both our accommodation and our location are really something special and are ideal for people seeking authenticity and something different from their holiday.
We do have two dogs and they are part of the family and are both very gentle.
We are located very near to the monastery at Arkadi and many other significant tourist sites and we have information books on request. We can help and advise if hire cars are required and in any way help with your requirements and are always on hand to help.
To find us you need to be on the Arkadi Monastery road, you will reach the village of Adele and see a kiosk selling drinks etc, and a bus stop opposite, when you arrive here I will supply my telephone number and collect you as only a couple of minutes away.
This is for the more discerning traveller not wanting the package style of holiday but you will leave relaxed and refreshed.

Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometre-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea. After all, it's among the finest in the world and has established Crete as one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations. And, of course, the island's historic importance in today's world as the home of the Minoan civilization with important archaeological finds at Knossos, Phaistos and Gortys, is evidenced by the tens of thousands of visitors to these sites each year.
However, Crete is the largest island in Greece - the fifth largest in the Mediterranean - and, within its diverse area of more than 8,000 square kilometers, there are many other jewels just waiting to be discovered by the more adventurous explorers of holiday treasures.

If you haven’t visited Crete yet, this summer may be the time to come and discover this fascinating Greek island. If it captures your heart, don’t worry. Come back next year and Crete will welcome you once more with its smiling Cretan sun, the sounds of the Cretan lyre, the scents of orange blossom and jasmine, a slice of cool red watermelon and a glass of iced raki.

Looking forward to summer and all the great times Jackie and Dan.

  • We are very glad to have met Jackie&Dave in their old and wonderful Stonehouse which is carefully built and renovated with many nice selected details. The description in airbnb corresponded exactly with the reality in the little cretian village and met our expectations to more than 100 %. So we've spent 10 very nice and relaxing holidays in sight of the mediterrean sea but in a safe enough distance to the many very busy tourist sites at the beach. We have already recommended the place to some further friends of us.

  • My husband and I stayed here in early June and absolutely had the most wonderful time. Jackie and Dan have so lovingly and tastefully restored the private suite to be an ideal getaway and base for exploring Crete. We rented a car, from a local agency - and this is highly recommended if you want to make the most of your time. Only a short drive to Rethymnon and many local sites. We especially loved the unbeatable breakfast that was the BEST way to start our morning. I would not hesitate to stay with Jackie and Dan again for much longer to explore all that Crete has to offer. There is so much to see and do, nothing short of two weeks will ever satisfy a true experience on this breathtaking island. Our top times were swimming in the Baltic Sea at Shineria beach (great snorkeling too!), Arkadi Monastery, dinner in the Old Venetian district of Rethimnon, and a sunset dinner at Thavma! Lots of great adventures to be had, and a beautiful authentic time is waiting for you at an unbeatable price with Jackie and Dan. xx

  • Renting Jackies and Dans appartment was our first experience with airbnb and we could not have wished for nicer hosts or a cozier stonehouse with this amazing view. Thanks so much for everything, we will never forget this. We also enjoyed the view from the bed and even from the shower. Jackie picked us up from the bus stop and dropped us off the last day and were always helpful. Thanks. The place is in a small village and you will also get around without necessarily renting a car (Bus to Rethymno needs 10 minutes for 1.20€).
If you want to have an amazing view (even better than on the pictures) and live in a village, where you possibly are the only tourists, you should visit Jackie and Dan! We will definitely go back, we are now huge fans of Crete.

  • A real gem of a place to stay. We had a truly amazing time, not only was it the perfect base to explore the ins and outs of the local area (we clocked up over 900k during our stay!) but Jackie and Dan were the loveliest and kindest hosts we could have hoped for. We would recommend them without hesitation! xxx

  • I loved the room and the sunny balcony- a great way to spend a quiet and peaceful time. The views were fabulous and the breakfast unforgettable. I missed both even in the beautiful old town of Rethymno. Would love to go back especially when the taverna is open! Jackie is a great host. She picked me up and dropped me off at the bus stop. and even called to check if I had got my bus.Thank you!

  • Jacqueline is a dear! I loved the place. Let me start with the fact that the room is just as it looks in the pictures, so I was very happy when I arrived. Now there is a wood stove which really kept the warm room for a winter stay. Her breakfast which I got a few times is beyond belief! It was as nice as one could dream from a gourmet restaurant, just a divine selection of snacky things;) I'm American so it was great to stay with Brits who could orient me and tell me what to see and do in Crete, and they were great hosts. The place is situated basically in the country, which I loved seeing 'the real Crete'. I rented a car (which is advisable) and the city and it's amenities are a short drive away. The view is fantastic. The bed was super comfortable. Oh! And I must add, the shower was new and updated with lots of hot water and great water pressure, a detail that is much appreciated. If you are considering this place it is a wonderful place to stay, you will love it!

  • Very interesting place, very cosy location, half-way between Heraklion and Hania. A lot of things to see and discover in the area, even in the winter season as we did. Of course, the weather was challenging, and we could not really take advantage of the terrace. we rediscovered the good old time heating by burning wooden pieces of olive tree in the iron steel oven...all in all very romantic for New Year's Eve, under the warm linen and covers of the Queen Size bed. Jacqueline looked indeed very annoyed she could not arrange anything for the weather, but her few advices were very valuable. We enjoyed!

We moved to Crete in 2006 and have renovated an old cretan stone house ourselves Stone by Stone. We want you to feel as comfortable as you can in our home and we hope to share some meals with you in the courtyard this year, I have worked as a Chef in places both here and the UK.... So food is very important to both myself and Dan...who is an amazing cook....We produce our own Breads, Bacons ,Hams and Preserves, and enjoy making our own Lemon liquor. Dan plays Guitar and we have one for our Guests use. This is lovely traditional village, and is the real Crete and we would love to share it with you
