The Space

Private lovely bedroom in a house filled with treasures, trinkets, art, and oddities. Bathroom just outside door. The bed is a full-size (slightly smaller than a queen), so it's a comfortable fit for two people who like each other! Large kitchen, wireless internet, amazing yard with ample art and strawberry patch. 5 minutes from downtown with plenty of street parking. Bus stop down the block. Your host is an artist and avid world traveler, eager to welcome you to Denver!

As you walk up the winding path from the street, you will pass a long fence covered in multi-colored windows and doors. Sculpture art adorns the garden, including a beautiful five-and-a-half foot wind chime that hangs from the giant Ponderosa pine tree. The chimes come with a mallet, so feel free to bang away! Depending on the season, the garden dazzles you with poppies, columbines, yarrow, wildflowers, strawberries, tomatoes, basil, squash, and other vegetables. Enjoy a fire after dark in the pit out front, or grill your dinner on the patio. Inside, enjoy the meditative space of the sweet and lovely guest room, or wander the main house and explore the host's book and art collections. If you like to cook, the kitchen is large and well-supplied with cookware.

Everyone on our block is friends with each other: the community is warm, inviting, and generous. People spend a lot of time outdoors in good weather, and typically people greet each other and can be found chatting over fences and to people who walk by. However, I have a very busy schedule and travel frequently, so my guest room is best for a traveler who is independent and can be comfortable coming and going on their own. Depending on my travel schedule, we might not cross paths much at all! So if you like to travel simply and independently, enjoy the extra space and make yourself at home.

Even though Denver is 420-friendly I ask that you still smoke outside. There is no smoking of any kind allowed in the house. Thank you for your understanding!

FYI: the detached garage doubles as an art studio hosting an artist-in-residency program. Depending on when you come, there may be an artist working on the property who you can meet and whose work you can check out! All in all, you can expect a funky, fun, and relaxing retreat here.

  • Andrea's space was fantastic! It was my first Air B&B and I couldn't have been happier. Since just a week ago I have told so many others about the space and suggested it for friend's in town when their friends visit. The soul her walls seep with her art, trinkets, authentic touch, and beautiful artifacts created a very warm space to unwind at. I loved the strawberry patch, garden wind-chime, silk pillowcases, and cleanliness! Reading through the guestbook she had brought humor and a huge realization of how committed she is to hosting and hosting with care and authenticity. Since staying, Andrea continues to be communicative about Denver city-life and helpful with questions before, during, and after my stay. This certainly was not expected and greatly appreciated!

  • Andrea is a wonderful host and very accommodating with her guests. She is a trusted host, and I can say this from experience because I used to live 3 houses away from her in 2013. She is an artist, which gives her home a distinct personality. It is a wonderful space of art, collections, antiques, artwork, portraits, and community stories. I stayed with her in June of 2014 when traveling back to Colorado to attend a friends wedding. The bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and other common areas were tidy and clean. She was working downtown during my stay, and I didn't see her because my schedule was packed with wedding activities as well. She was very communicative about directions, rules, and expectations during my stay; which made me feel right at home. It's such a cozy environment and the bed was comfortable for a solid night of sleep. Thank you again Andrea for beautiful hospitality in Denver.

  • Andrea is a brilliant hostess, and her beautiful home is filled with art, books, inspiration and all the comforts of home. The kitchen is huge and very well stocked, the bathroom is lovely, and the bedroom feels like an artist's haven with great light, a cozy bed, and a sweet writing table. The bus is just a couple of blocks away and takes to downtown in less than 20 minutes. I really loved getting to know Andrea and highly recommend treating yourself to a stay with her in Denver (which is a wonderful city--from art and music to hiking nearby).

  • Andrea's place was great! Eclectic and homey, I wanted to stay much longer than the 5 hours I was there :) The bed was comfy, shower wonderful, and the chocolate on the pillow made the whole travel mess worthwhile. Thank you for being part of this network Andrea!

  • Staying at Andrea's home was the perfect decision for my first trip to Denver. Her home is quaint and quiet and close to all the best parts of the city. She is a wonderful and hospitable hostess, and I couldn't recommend her more highly! Thank you, Andrea!

  • i stayed only one night in Andreas house.
My room was clean and cozy.
Andrea is well travelled, and although she was busy with organizing a small art exhibition at her home, she was very helpful, friendly and welcoming.
I can absolutely recommend this place.

  • Andrea was an excellent and accommodating host.

The space is very interesting, creative and homey, and a pleasure to stay in. The kitchen is very well equipped and inviting. We also spent every night in the front yard relaxing, sometimes even with a small bonfire burning in the fire pit.

The location was great too. Though it's not right by downtown, it's about a $10+ cab ride away, or a quick 15 minute bike ride away. It's far enough away from the city that you sleep in quiet, which is very nice.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Denver. It was our first visit to the mile high city and being able to stay in Andrea's artistic, creative space really enhanced our experience.

    August 2013
  • A cozy and quiet escape that just so happens to include a friendly and knowledgeable hostess.

"Andrea's Denver" is superior to anything that Lonely Planet, Fodor's, and National Geographic could ever hope to publish.

About
I am a photographer, writer, performer, and producer. I love to travel, and the more remote the location the better. I am passionate about working within marginalized communities and populations. In particular, I love working with the special needs community, teaching under-resourced teens and youth, and volunteering for Uganda Project -- an organization that serves a group of students living in Uganda who have been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. I use my art to help build understanding and trust across cultural and social lines. I appreciate good company, good food, and good laughs!
