Private lovely bedroom in a house filled with treasures, trinkets, art, and oddities. Bathroom just outside door. The bed is a full-size (slightly smaller than a queen), so it's a comfortable fit for two people who like each other! Large kitchen, wireless internet, amazing yard with ample art and strawberry patch. 5 minutes from downtown with plenty of street parking. Bus stop down the block. Your host is an artist and avid world traveler, eager to welcome you to Denver!
As you walk up the winding path from the street, you will pass a long fence covered in multi-colored windows and doors. Sculpture art adorns the garden, including a beautiful five-and-a-half foot wind chime that hangs from the giant Ponderosa pine tree. The chimes come with a mallet, so feel free to bang away! Depending on the season, the garden dazzles you with poppies, columbines, yarrow, wildflowers, strawberries, tomatoes, basil, squash, and other vegetables. Enjoy a fire after dark in the pit out front, or grill your dinner on the patio. Inside, enjoy the meditative space of the sweet and lovely guest room, or wander the main house and explore the host's book and art collections. If you like to cook, the kitchen is large and well-supplied with cookware.
Everyone on our block is friends with each other: the community is warm, inviting, and generous. People spend a lot of time outdoors in good weather, and typically people greet each other and can be found chatting over fences and to people who walk by. However, I have a very busy schedule and travel frequently, so my guest room is best for a traveler who is independent and can be comfortable coming and going on their own. Depending on my travel schedule, we might not cross paths much at all! So if you like to travel simply and independently, enjoy the extra space and make yourself at home.
Even though Denver is 420-friendly I ask that you still smoke outside. There is no smoking of any kind allowed in the house. Thank you for your understanding!
FYI: the detached garage doubles as an art studio hosting an artist-in-residency program. Depending on when you come, there may be an artist working on the property who you can meet and whose work you can check out! All in all, you can expect a funky, fun, and relaxing retreat here.
Interaction with Guests
I have a very busy schedule and travel frequently, so my guest room is best for a traveler who is independent and can be comfortable coming and going on their own. Depending on my travel schedule, we might not cross paths much at all! So if you like to travel simply and independently, enjoy the extra space and make yourself at home.
The best guests and the best hosts have all the same qualities. I request respect, consideration, kindness, good will, good humor, and the benefit of the doubt from all of my guests, and I will offer these same qualities in return.
I celebrate diversity and welcome people of all backgrounds, creeds, religions, preferences, and nationalities.
I have a strict no-smoking policy for inside my house. Also, my home is not a great fit for any travelers who are coming to Denver strictly to enjoy pot tourism. I have taken great care in furnishing and decorating my home, and I want to share it with travelers who treat it as a unique home and not a generic hotel. This space is a good fit for a thoughtful, respectful, and creative traveler who enjoys the curiosities accumulated from a life well-lived. If your primary purpose in visiting Denver is to party, this probably won't be the best house for you. Further, I do not drink or use any recreational drugs myself. I don't mind if my guests have a little beer or wine in the house for short-term stays, but again, the most compatible guests for this space are travelers who are not steered by their relationship to substances. Thank you for your understanding!
After your stay, I ask that you leave the house in the condition you found it. Please wash any used dishes and restore all items to their original location. Travelers who strip the beds will also receive my undying love and adoration! :)
Andrea was a fantastic host. Her place is uniquely beautiful and it is only a few minutes away from downtown Denver. The room itself is cozy, and the bed is clean and comfortable. Andrea also provides you with a map of the area and a list of local hot spots. She is extremely friendly and is very helpful in helping suggest activities during your stay. This was my first Airbnb experience and she did a great job making me feel welcome. I highly recommend staying here!
Andrea's Artist's Abode is an amazing find in a quiet and diverse neighborhood. Her home is filled with eclectic and interesting art, beautiful photos, and wonderful details of beauty. Everything she has here is displayed with intention and creates a calming environment. I stayed when we had a Denver "snow day" and the roads were easy to navigate safely even with a small vehicle. Thank you, Andrea!
Andrea's organization made this trip significantly easier. Her step by step directions of how to get to her house, receive keys, providing guests with towels, etc was welcoming and inviting. Andrea herself is a sweetheart, who is genuinely interested in what your trip consists...she asked us about our day, made recommendations and was easy to get a hold of. Her home is filled with traveling memorabilia, different styles of decor and reminds me of my own family's style so I felt right at home here. Surrounding homes and streets may seem old or less than aesthetically pleasing but the neighborhood is quiet. Location was a huge factor in our considering this listing ad it more than delivers. I would make the recommendation to rent a car (as I've been to denver before sans one and you end up seeing significantly less). Even if we were running late, you can quickly make your destination especially if it is downtown. This was my first airbnb experience and not only would I use the service again, I would also stay with Andrea as well. She has such a great feel about her ad easy going nature that if our trip wasn't so short, I would have loved to sit down with her ad chat!
Andrea's Calm Retreat was just that. I felt welcomed and relaxed during a stressful week and plan to stay with her any time I'm in Denver. I found it easy to get to a number of locations around town and she provided a handy little "Andrea's Denver" map. Loved her, her home and the neighborhood.
Andrea's space was fantastic! It was my first Air B&B and I couldn't have been happier. Since just a week ago I have told so many others about the space and suggested it for friend's in town when their friends visit. The soul her walls seep with her art, trinkets, authentic touch, and beautiful artifacts created a very warm space to unwind at. I loved the strawberry patch, garden wind-chime, silk pillowcases, and cleanliness! Reading through the guestbook she had brought humor and a huge realization of how committed she is to hosting and hosting with care and authenticity. Since staying, Andrea continues to be communicative about Denver city-life and helpful with questions before, during, and after my stay. This certainly was not expected and greatly appreciated!
Nice room, convenient location, host was helpful with questions about the area. Overall a nice place to stay.
Andrea is a wonderful host and very accommodating with her guests. She is a trusted host, and I can say this from experience because I used to live 3 houses away from her in 2013. She is an artist, which gives her home a distinct personality. It is a wonderful space of art, collections, antiques, artwork, portraits, and community stories. I stayed with her in June of 2014 when traveling back to Colorado to attend a friends wedding. The bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and other common areas were tidy and clean. She was working downtown during my stay, and I didn't see her because my schedule was packed with wedding activities as well. She was very communicative about directions, rules, and expectations during my stay; which made me feel right at home. It's such a cozy environment and the bed was comfortable for a solid night of sleep. Thank you again Andrea for beautiful hospitality in Denver.

About the Host, Andrea
I am a photographer, writer, performer, and producer. I love to travel, and the more remote the location the better. I am passionate about working within marginalized communities and populations. In particular, I love working with the special needs community, teaching under-resourced teens and youth, and volunteering for Uganda Project -- an organization that serves a group of students living in Uganda who have been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. I use my art to help build understanding and trust across cultural and social lines. I appreciate good company, good food, and good laughs!
