Politeness and civility. No smoking inside but we have an outdoor terrace. Very important to us!
Julia and Peter provided such a perfect place to call home base while exploring Portland! We had such a great time, made even better by having the carriage house to come home to each evening. They made us feel welcome, and everything about the studio and surrounding neighborhood was lovely. Thank you!!
Julia & Peter are just impeccable hosts, and The Carriage House was just an incredible place to stay when you're visiting Portland, Maine. Old Port is just an exit away on the freeway, and we were just a hop away from all these great restaurants you'll find on yelp. Julia baked us some wonderful chocolate chip style cookies that we munched on while we read our books. They also provided us with some soda and V8. The Carriage House faces their house with a well manicured lawn in the middle, and we often came home to see Peter sitting outside reading himself. The bed had a great mattress, and we slept in for a couple of the nights we were there. We wished we could have stayed longer, and this is definitely the place we'd come back to when we come back to Maine.
We had a good time at Julia & Peter's place, it's was big for the 3 or us an dit was really quiet at night. The set up was perfect and the location was good.
Loved our stay at the Carriage House! The room was exactly as described; perfectly fit our needs. Peter and Julia were wonderful hosts, offering great tips on places to eat and visit. Our favorite part: the homemade cookies that greeted us after a long drive. Such a special touch!
Julia and Peter are very nice and welcoming. The house is perfect. We had everything we needed, even more. We hope to come back some day. Thanks for everything.

My partner and I stayed in the Carriage House for two nights while visiting Portland in July 2015. The space and the hosts were nothing short of amazing. Julia had thought of everything we could possibly need and even greeted us with cookies! The room is air-conditioned and completely private with lots of space. It is a short Uber ride to downtown ($6 or so). I would highly recommend staying here, it felt like we were in a luxury hotel!
Julia and Peter are lovely, very welcoming and helpful, yet low-key. The room has a pull-out couch, which was a welcome surprise for us--perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids. We had everything we needed, including a quiet neighborhood, a lovely patio to enjoy at night while the kids slept, and great recommendations from our hosts for places to eat. We had a great experience and would stay here again. Thank you, Julia and Peter!
P.S. The cookies were so yummy--we took our leftovers for the rest of our trip.
About the Host, Julia & Peter
We love walking/biking/kayaking and are attempting a summer of fishing up on the lakes.
Enjoy whisking off for a quick trip to Boston by train for a day trip or splurge on an overnight stay.
We have the best of the best here in Portland. A walk into town for a morning at the museum, many choices for lunch in the afternoon. A possible boat ride/ferry ride in the afternoon, then watch the sunset while sipping a cocktail on the oceanfront. Ahhhh, bliss :-)
