Location

Los Angeles, California, United States

Los Angeles is known for many things: the entertainment industry, Hollywood Walk of Fame, expansive beaches, a great culinary scene and a renowned nightlife. But if you want to boil LA down to its most essential bits, it’s important to experience the attractions that make it the spectacular city that it is. On any given day, you can swim in the sea, hike up a mountain, see someone famous and shop until you drop.

Brentwood is a family-oriented small suburb of Los Angeles, that’s known as one of the wealthiest areas of Los Angeles. Its population of roughly 235,000 is peppered over the years with affluent professionals, political figures, and celebrities like Harrison Ford, Steve McQueen, Cindy Crawford, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marilyn Monroe, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The notorious police chase of O.J. Simpson’s white Bronco ended at his Brentwood mansion, located just a few houses away on Rockingham Street.

The 7 best things to do in or near Brentwood (Los Angeles).

1) Bike the Strand

What is it? A 22-mile bike path, officially known as the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, that traces nearly the entire extent of L.A.’s westward-facing coastline. Best of all, it's only 5 miles away from The Rock.

Why go? It’s the best way to tour the coastline. The path starts at Will Rogers State Beach and winds its way all the way down to Torrance County Beach.

Don’t miss: If you’d rather take the path at a walking pace, you’ll find pedestrian-friendly forks in Santa Monica, and the world famous Venice Beach.

2) Coastline atop Temescal Gateway Park

What is it? A Pacific Palisades hillside park with multiple viewpoints of the Pacific ocean.

Why go? With a variety of terrain, flora and views of the Pacific and city, Temescal Canyon Park is great for trail runners, hikers and dog walkers. You’ll experience vast, breathtaking views that span from Catalina to Downtown and enough varied terrain to keep you and your furry friend going—all the way to the Valley. This beach has been an icon for several hits that have been seen on TV, such as: Teen Wolf (2011–2017), Point Break (1991) , Baywatch (1989–2001).

3) Achieve your farm-to-table dreams at the Santa Monica or Brentwood Farmers’ Market

What is it? A series of farmers’ markets held every week year-round.

Why go? The colorful outdoor market is filled with organic feasts that await all types of pallets.

Don’t miss: While the market occurs on a couple of days , the best day to go is on Wednesday along Arizona Avenue.

4) Visit J. Paul Getty Museum

What is it? A breathtaking art museum spread across two campuses: the Getty Center and Getty Villa. The modern designed fortress is only a 5 minute drive from The Rock, and its position on a hill in the Santa Monica Mountains offers incredible views. Thoughtful exhibits, spectacular gardens and a restaurant and café stand to keep guests entertained for hours.

Why go? The collection of the J. Paul Getty Museum on display at the Getty Center includes pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and decorative arts; and 19th- and 20th-century American and European photographs…and much much more.

5) Hit Westridge Trailhead

What is it? A popular path for mountain bikers, trail runners, and dog walkers.

Why go? Aside from the health benefits from hiking and the fact that this amazing trail is less than 1 mile away from The Rock, it also has tons of history. In the 1950s, San Vicente Mountain served as a mountaintop military installation to defend Los Angeles from Soviet missile attacks. Today, the 1,960-foot peak provides visitors with a look back at this chapter in the city’s history, along with a great view of West LA and the Santa Monica Mountains.

6) Explore Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier

What is it? An oceanfront amusement park located in Santa Monica, California. The park, located on the Santa Monica Pier, looks directly out on the Pacific Ocean, in the direction of Catalina Island.

Why go? Being the only amusement park on the West Coast of the United States that’s located on a pier and LA's only admission-free park, filled with twelve rides and tons of great eateries. Best of all, it's only an 8 minute drive from The Rock.

7) Stroll the Brentwood Country Mart

What is it? A barn-themed retail village that are footsteps away from The Rock, which features shopping, dining, picnic benches in two separate enclosed patios, pony rides on Sundays and al fresco summer movies.

Why go? For starters, great organic ice cream at Sweet Rose Creamery…and don’t be surprised if you spot a celebrity during your visit.
