Second Fig is perched at the end of a grassy road in a field dotted with apple trees overlooking the sea on the remote island of Matinicus. It sits on a private 40 acre, ocean front lot of rugged Maine land. Explore the property's rocky shoreline, tidal pools, and spruce forests or expand your wanderings to the other parts of the island including two sandy beaches. The space
The House: built in the 80s and updated in 2021, the house sits strong on Condon Point overlooking the ocean as far as one can see. There are three bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable living space full of books and board games and a front deck and balcony. There is wifi, but do be prepared that there is limited to no cell service and no television.

Bedroom 1: king bed, dresser, closet
Bedroom 2: two single beds, closet.
Bedroom 3: Queen bed, balcony.
(there is also various pieces of baby equipment. Ask if you'd like more info!)

The location: The house is situated at the end of a beautiful private road on the island of Matinicus. Matinicus is a remote island, 22 miles off the coast of Maine, accessible by boat or plane. There are no grocery stores or shops on the island so all of your food and drinks (other than water) will need to be packed with you. The island is a beautiful, rugged place with two beautiful sandy beaches, walking trails, enchanting forests with mossy floors, and miles of rocky shoreline to explore. There is a small library, a playground, and recycling center. You can also buy fresh lobsters directly from the local fishermen and there are often farmers markets where other offerings may be available. Check out our instagram oage (@secondfighouse) for more information and to get a better sense of the island.

Getting here:
You can travel to the island via The Robin R, a beautiful passenger boat, expertly run by Captain George. The trip takes about an hour and may allow you an up close sighting of porpoises and seals. (matinicusexcursions.com)

Alternatively, you can fly with one of the exceptional pilots at Penobscot Air. The trip takes about 12 minutes and is stunningly beautiful. (penobscotislandair.com)

If you are seeking peace, solitude, and a break from the business of daily life, this might be the place for you!
If stores, restaurants, and electronics are important to you, this is not the place. You will need to comfortable unplugging and going at a slower pace.

-miles of rocky shoreline with endless tidepools and secret beaches to discover.
-a small, but well stocked library
-a playground at the small island school
