The Playwright Restaurant,is , in my opinion, the best restaurant in Dundee. If you book for lunch or around 6pm the prices are very reasonable for an excellent meal and great service. The Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre is a short walk away, and hosts exhibitions from international artists, and also runs courses and workshops, and has two cinemas which show the best foreign films, and some great classics as well. The cinemas have been recently refurbished and now regularly show performances from the Met and the National Theatre in London.
St Andrews is 20 minutes away by car and is the home of golf with the famous Old Course and a fine seafood restaurant and places you can go for a high tea. Nearby there are picturesque little fishing villages like Crail and Anstruther where you can buy fresh crabs and lobsters directly from the fishermen.
Abertay university is five minutes away on foot and Dundee university is 15 minutes away.

My beautiful house dates from 1857 and is 5 minutes walk from the centre of town, in a quiet conservation area. This not a formal bed and breakfast or a cheaper version of a hotel. People who are looking for that will be disappointed. What I offer is informal accommodation in my own home where I encourage people from all cultures to get to know each other. Tea, coffee, orange juice, bread, milk and cereal are left on the table so guests can get up whenever they like and help themselves to breakfast. I am resident in one or other of my two flats (they are in the same building one above the other) and I move between the two flats every day. Some of the reviews actually suggest this is hostel type accommodation and I'm happy with that description as it suggests the kind of informality I encourage. Many of my guests have stayed in touch with me after leaving and return year on year and those who feel at home in my accommodation spend time chatting and mixing with other guests and often stay in touch with other guests when they leave. I enjoy watching this exchange.
I think the most important thing in life is to never say anything to another person that could not stand as the very last thing you ever said to that person and that friendship is the most important thing in life.
