The description was accurate. Our room was up 4 flights of stairs so you may want to inquire about where your room is located. We did not prepare any meals; however, the kitchenette appeared to be stocked. Drinking glasses were provided. Dish towels were not provided. The room was cleaned each day except Sunday when we had to go to Reception to get some towels. There was a balcony off the bedroom and salon with a table and chairs. The neighborhood was nice and there were plenty of good restaurants open at all times within walking distance. There was a well stocked Super Mercado down the street as well.
The Plaza Real resort was a very pleasant place altogether. In the middle of the rather ghostlike neighborhood of Villas del Mar - a tourist area without tourists - the Plaza Real was quite a little oasis, with a lush beautiful garden, a lovely child friendly pool, a trampoline and a little fish pond with turtles. The pool bar and restaurant served delicious pizza and loud music. However, the bar closed early so it was never any nuisance. The beach was very close. And during weekdays we almost had it to ourselves.
The nearest ATM is at about 10 minutes walk, if there is any cash in it. Otherwise the next one is another 15 minutes away. There's a really price worthy laundry service within the resort. And a mini market just next door. There are no guaguas passing by, the nearest stop is abut 30 minutes walk, so the best way to get here is by taxi or motoconcho. The apartment was alright, but it could easily have been improved by looking over the kitchen utensils. We lacked glasses, cups, knives, forks, spoons, well, most things. We also advice you to be specific in your contact with the host, since we asked for an apartment close to the ground, and got the fourth floor. N.b. no elevators. The staff was very kind and friendly, and although the reception staff didn't help out very much when we asked for some things we were lacking, they were really nice. (We asked the maid instead. She helped us out).
However, it was a great place. Our kids loved it, and made a lot of new friends. We would really like to recommend it to anybody planning on staying in Juan Dolio.
I stayed at plaza real for couple nights and was very pleased with the room, location, pool and available food. Definitely a good deal for the price. Plenty of restaurants around. Quiet place and friendly staff. Would recommend.
My fiance and I stayed a week at Plaza Real over New Years - the only way to make the vacation possible was to do so on a budget, so we ended up choosing here. First things first, I have to say Piergiorgio responds outstandingly quick to emails. In questions leading up to renting a room here, as well as emails during our stay were answered within minutes (he was even in Italy while we were at his property and he responded within minutes).
Having said that, here's quick rundown of our experience:
-The place is inexpensive. Very inexpensive! So any complaints really do have to be kept in check.
-It's right across from the beach. In exiting the building, you cross a 2 -lane street and the beach entrance (a path/tunnel between 2 condo/timeshare buildings).
-The beach that is nearby is fantastic. You can walk it in either direction (though a bit further going west), and it's all very nice.
-We booked a 1 bedroom we believed to include a balcony (either from the booking or pictures, I don't recall). We received a small studio with no balcony. We were told they were all full and could only move us after the New Year...that worked out and we were moved to another studio with a balcony. Very small, considerably better, but still frustrating as we booked months in advance (again, remember how inexpensive the place is). And it should be noted when passing other apartments, many are very large 1 bedrooms with a separate kitchen, eating area, etc.
-Parking is on the street either in front of the restaurant or reception entrance to Plaza Real. Not a big deal, but still worth noting. We had a rental car and really only moved it once during the week.
-The noise was to be expected. Usually quiet, but on some days (holiday or weekend nights) the restaurant next door had music playing, or the bar/club down the street had loud music. I carry ear plugs as I travel a lot for work and needed them to fall asleep, though the music seemed to stop by around midnight or one o'clock.
-The pool is very nice. Though not necessarily a "con", it should be noted it is public, sort of. It seems that so long as you don't bring food or drink in, you can swim there and use their bar, and those that do may be local residents/etc, or at least, not just those staying at the property. No big deal - and quite honestly, it was usually fairly empty, because why would you use a pool when a beautiful beach is 200ft away? Just something to note as it initially appears to be an amenity only afforded to the renters.
-We did have one cockroach. I'm not okay with that especially as it was just after we moved into the second room we were moved to (and therefore should be clean, etc). Gross but oh well.
I stayed there for 17 days.
I have no complains at all.
Nice and friendly staff.
Friendly host, nice quiet area in and outside the hotel area.
If you want a quiet place, go there.
This was a great value room in Juan Dulio that was much cheaper than most other listings in the area. The power was out when I initially resolved but it was taken care of quickly. The bathroom had a couple of issues but nothing out of the ordinary for the country. I would recommend it for travelers on a budget.

Hi, I am Piergiorgio, I speak Italian, English, Spanish, Polish and a little French.
I have an appartment which is inside Plaza Real Resort, a very nice aparthotel located in Juan Dolio. The resort is very peaceful and relaxing as it has a very nice tropical garden, an awesome swimming pool, bars, restaurants, super market, laundry beauty center, pharmacy bakery. Free internet wifi. Most important is so close (across the street) to one of the most and amazing beach in Juan Dolio.
