Casa Flamboyan is great. The house is very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. They have an extensive DVD collection that will keep you busy at night. The location is good and the property manager is very nice. We had an incredible vacation.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Flamboyan. It was beautiful, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed from lots of towels, beach chairs, snorkel and mask, umbrella etc. We especially appreciated the pack n play crib for our 6 month old. Lovely Mexican artwork and nice tile work throughout the house. Fans on porch made it a nice spot even when it got warm. The shower was especially nice! Great location, nice neighbors. Would stay again.
The property manager was gracious enough to pick us up by the ferry and take us to the house because all of the car rentals close by 4 or 5. Lesson learned take an earlier ferry if you can.
The house was very cute and well decorated. It had all the amenities described and it was wonderful having our own kitchen. The rooms stayed cool and comfortable with fans and AC. There was also plenty of beach and snorkel gear to take to the beach. This saved us time and money on rentals. The rooftop "ocean view" was kind of underwhelming. Overall we loved the quality of the house itself.
The neighborhood, on the other hand, was less desirable. It is about a 20 minute hilly walk to the nearest store or restaurant but a much more reasonable drive. I was pretty disappointed with the run down neighborhood to be honest. We never felt unsafe but there were mostly impoverished houses surrounding us. My biggest complaint was the never ending rooster noises every morning. At first it was quaint but after day 2 and 3 it was very annoying. Our neighbor also decided to use his TABLE SAW EVERY MORNING at 7 am making any attempt at sleeping in impossible.
Even though we did not have any major "issues" and the house itself was nice, I would probably chose to stay somewhere closer to the beach (possibly Esperanza) and in a better neighborhood next time I go to Vieques. Additionally, you cannot stay here without transportation to get around the island.
The house is very lovely and spacious. The kitchen is well equipped and there are lots of amenities, like EXCELLENT beach chairs and a cooler. Highly recommend!
If you want an authentic slice of island life, away from the tourists, then this place is perfect! It was a pleasure dealing David and Jane. Joanne (the property manager) was fantastic and kind enough to collect us from the ferry. She gave us great advice about car rentals (check out Chepito's - they were great, cheaper than Avis and they're right by the ferry terminal) and which beaches to try (Punta Arenas was absolutely stunning, but get a Jeep).
Thanks for a great stay!
Casa Flanboyán was perfect. We loved being in the barrio and experiencing how locals live. It's location was great, close to the supermacado and coffee shop. We were able to make breakfast in the mornings (the chickens make sure you are early to rise) and pack lunch for the beaches everyday. The beach supplies were a life saver! Chairs, coolers, umbrellas and snorkel gear, needless to say we were much more prepared than our friends who were staying at a resort. The neighborhood cats are friendly and will expect leftovers. Don't forget to make the trip to green beach, the road is pretty adventurous but it's worth it. The guestbook will have a ton of good advice as well. We can't wait to come back.
About the Host, David And Jane
My wife and I are retired school teachers. We first visited Vieques in 1995 with family friends and quickly fell in love with the beaches and Island charm. In 2007, we decided to buy a home of our own on the Island with our son.
In our spare time, we love to travel and spend time with our family. We have equipped Casa Flamboyan with everything we'd want for an enjoyable family holiday. Just bring your swim suits and enjoy!
