We loved our time spent at Casa Flamboyan. The house is very well-kept and clean. All of the amenities are as pictured, and the views are even better! The host, JoAnne, was very helpful pointing out local stops for gas and groceries before our stay.
Yes, the chickens are loud, however not a deterrent.
I would absolutely stay here again!
This is a great house and looks exactly as shown in the pictures. it is very clean and well maintained. They have a good movie collection and a couple of board games too. The best part is they also had snorkeling gear for four of us which we used for the two days that we were there. The only downside is the location, it is hard to get around if you don't have a car. The sound of roosters was a little disturbing early in the mornings. But overall , we had a great time here.
Charming house, clean, well decorated and (website hidden) in bedrooms was appreciated. Very comfortable beds. The lack of curtains is a bit strange at first but helped me wake up early and get as much quality beach time as possible. The instant hot water was a luxury. There were beach chairs, towels and lots of cooking equipment. Oven seemed a bit temperamental so stick with the stovetop or bbq. House is very close to Isabella II - about a 5 min drive. Wonderful views on the roof deck complete with a resident cat. With a good sweeping, the roof would make a nice hangout place. There is a private parking area for your car. Neighborhood felt safe and was quiet. I brought earplugs but the roosters, hens and dogs didn't bother me much. Hosts were quick with communication and the property manager was timely as well. Would definitely return!
We had a simply marvelous time. The house is charming and spacious and has everything you need for a great vacation. Honestly we could not believe how lucky we were to have rented this house. It is located in a traditional neighborhood and you have chicken, cats and dogs and the occasional horse running around. The roosters start early in the morning and it can get loud, but contrary to other reviewers I found this to some degree relaxing. The living room/kitchen is huge and the big dinner table is ideal to play games. There is even a washer and dryer in the back of the house. The living room does not have air conditioning, but plenty of fans that keep the temperature comfortable. The bedrooms do have AC and it is nice and cool for the night. You do need a car to get around though or you are stuck, but that is the same no matter where you stay on the island. If you do rent a car get a jeep or you can't access many of the beaches as they require a drive on extremely bumpy dirt roads. We went in the middle of September and we had the beaches for the most part totally to ourselves. We really miss Casa flamboyant and we will most certainly come back and stay there again.
We just finished a great stay on Vieques! The house was almost perfect- supplies to cook, air conditioning, a great bathroom with UNLIMITED HOT WATER (I think they must have a tankless water heater which was amazing), any beach supplies you could want, etc. Yes, others have made a point about the roosters- at 4am I woke up to their wake up call, put my earbuds in, set my music to repeat and otherwise slept as long as I (website hidden) Ann was great, meeting us off the ferry, texting me to make sure we were having a great stay. The only (seriously, only) thing that kind of bugged us was the fact that there were no curtains or blinds (2/3 windows in one bedroom had the windows frosted, otherwise nada) in the house. It wasn't a huge deal for a brother/sister combo, but romantic couples and/or light sleepers may want to consider this. Otherwise, a GREAT stay on a great island in a wonderful house that I would recommend to anyone!
Casa Flamboyan is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Apart from the excellent location (although everything is in a good location on this island) the place is stocked with tons of things to make the stay much more simple on the guests, like beach towels and portable chairs. Make sure to read the guest book for great recommendations on where to eat.
If you're from the city, bring some earplugs; there are two friendly neighborhood roosters that like to get into shouting matches in the morning.
We absolutely loved staying in Casa Flamboyan on Vieques! The house is clean, breezy, and has everything you could possibly need. We loved cooking fresh fish and hanging out on the front porch every day, and even watching a dvd & playing Monopoly on the one rainy night during our week at the house.
JoAnne was very helpful and showed us where everything was located in the house. She picked us up from the car rental to show us how to drive to the house.
You must rent a car if you are staying here, otherwise there is no way you can get to the amazing beaches on the south side of the island (you should rent a car no matter where you stay, otherwise, I have no idea how you would get around). The house has every imaginable kind of beach gear, from snorkels to sarongs, so you will have an amazing time at the beach.
The neighbors have a lot of chickens (animals are everywhere on the island! even horses!!), so pack ear plugs! We did, and it made a big difference. Roosters cock-a-doodle-doo at all hours, and it will interrupt your sleep if you are not prepared.
We had a wonderful trip in Vieques, and we plan on staying here again on our next visit to PR.
I stayed in the house with my husband. We loved the house -- the kitchen had everything you need to cook, there was laundry, and there was a good DVD collection for the tv. The room was comfortable and the a/c in the bedroom was amazing! We liked being in this part of the island (Isabella) and actually thought there was more going on in the town, and that it was more central. We had no problem driving all over the island to beaches, hiking, and restaurants. The house had great snorkel gear and beach chairs etc.
There were a few problems with the house. One was very small (there was no toilet paper at all, but this was no biggie, we just bought some). The bigger ones were the roosters at night. Literally they crowed all night every night. We are very flexible, and tried to find earplugs, but not a single place on the island (we tried 4 stores!) had them. We recommend for the hosts to leave these, or for you to bring these yourself. That would have changed out visit. Also, the bedrooms need curtains, as they get bright quite early. This meant we were up to enjoy the full day, but it would have been nice to sleep in (we adjusted by putting pillows or towels over our heads), but curtains would be an improvement. Despite these issues, we do recommend the house -- just bring ear plugs and an eye mask!
We had a group of 4 staying in this house, which was very cute and comfortable, and filled with amenities on the inside. The DVD player and large DVD collection served us well on our first rainy night. One note that there was not enough toilet paper to last us more than a day and we had to buy our own because the landlady did not respond quickly.
I would like to point out that the description of the house is very misleading. The house is in a somewhat run-down neighborhood surrounded by chickens and roosters that crow at all hours of the night. There was also a stray cat that hung around on the porch which, for that reason, we did not use. We were also expected to feed it and it meowed loudly until we did. The house description of ocean views and picture of Sun Bay may lead you to believe that the house is close to the beach. This is not the case. You absolutely need a car to get to the nice beaches. Our group did not fully realize this until we arrived, which left us scrambling to extend our car rental (we had only booked one day because we thought we could walk down to the beaches). Once we had a car it was easy to get from place to place but there was a definite discrepancy between our expectations for the house's location and the reality.
We’re sorry to hear that your trip to Vieques wasn’t what you had hoped. It
is worth noting that Vieques isn’t for everyone – most of the population
lives with modest means, the Island lacks the polish that you might see on
Islands like St. Johns, and roosters and wild horses are everywhere (a
quick internet search on roosters and Vieques will turn up countless hits!). For
us, and many of our guests, Vieques is just what we are after – an
authentic place with lovely people and beautiful beaches.
Your point on needing a car rental is well taken. The best beaches are in
the Wildlife Refuge and are a drive away from all of the house rentals on
the Island. With that in mind, it’s a good idea to rent a car no matter
where you end up staying.
Casa Flamboyan is definitely a great place to stay on the island! This place is completely stocked with pots, pans, dishes and anything else you could need to make a good dinner. They also had a lot of beach accesories (cooler, chairs, beach umbrella, skim board) and a nice book and dvd collection. It is very animal friendly, you will find some cats, roosters and chickens around the yard so make sure you won't mind that before renting. Unfortunately, the roosters were pretty loud the nights we stayed and started crowing early in the morning (1am) but I'm sure it doesnt happen constantly, in fact it only bugged us for a little while we immediately got used to it and understand no one really has power over neighborhood roosters crowing! All in all, we had a great time! The house is beautiful and comfortable, the bathroom is a good size, the hot water is great and the property manager JoAnn is really friendly and very nice. You are gonna want to rent a car or bring your own if you stay here since the beaches are about 10 - 20 min drives away. You won't find a better place than this in Vieques for the price and I'm looking forward to returning.
