We had such a perfect, amazing time! It was everything we were hoping for. We cooked whole fish, laughed at roosters, and danced to samba! Such a paradise.
We loved staying at Casa Flamboyan. The space was lovely, the view was great, and we liked that the location was away from the tourist crowds. The roosters mentioned by others were the only downside, but after the first night we discovered the white noise machine in the bedroom and slept soundly through the 1am onwards constant crowing. We quickly made friends with the cats and enjoyed finding them on the porch each morning when we got up.
We spent most of our time at the less crowded beaches (Pata Prieta, Chivas and the Black Sand Beach were among our favorites), and we discovered that continuing on the road the house is on away from route 200 will get to the wildlife refuge beaches faster than going through town -- if you have a maps app on your phone it will help you find the way. We loved having the beach chairs and umbrella, but make sure to wear lots of sunscreen as we managed to get sunburns while sitting at the beach under the umbrella!
We loved our stay at Casa Flamboyan! Vieques is absolutely beautiful and staying a house that was well equipped made it even better. The house fit the description, comfortable, great amenities (especially the blender and beach gear!). The neighborhood is residential and full of locals. If you're looking for tourists, this is not the right place for you. The only downside was probably the rooster coop next door. But honestly, a few piña coladas and some ear plugs and you'll be fine.
All in all, we loved our stay and would definitely recommend to anyone. Also, shout out to Joanne and Harry for the awesome welcome and help when we were there.
The house was perfect for us. The previous reviews and photos were accurate. JoAnne, the caretaker, met us at the airport and took us to the house and everything went seamlessly. Everything we needed was there. We couldn't be happier and hope to be back!
We really enjoyed our stay, we'd definitely come back. We had read previous reviews, and were aware of roosters, cats and lizards - we really liked all of that - being so different from our typical city environment. It was generally calm, quiet and safe. Joanne (the caretaker) was very helpful in getting us oriented, and the wealth of island information in the scrap-book was fanstastic. The house is beautiful and well-maintained. Now - here are a few items we wished we were more prepared for: cool showers, not being walking distance from any attractions (no big deal, it was hot, and we had a car). We ended up spending most of our time in Esperanza and the Red /Blue beaches which are about 20 minutes away. We bought groceries and made breakfast/lunch in the well-appointed kitchen. We used the available beach chairs and coolers, snorkels, towels - it was great!
This place rocks. Clean, beautiful, fully-equipped house. We made margaritas, danced to spanish music in the stereo, and slept like babies. The place is stocked with DVDs, music, books, kitchenware, and stuff to take to the beach. The views from the rooftop are great, too. Really wish we could've stayed here all week instead of just 3 nights. Such a bargain for the price, too.
Neighborhood looks a little sketchy (stripped car a block away), but it felt nothing but safe in and around this house. Bring earplugs. Roosters are no joke at 5am.
We had such a comfortable trip to Vieques staying at David & Jane's vacation home. My husband and I needed to get away alone for a few days before our second child's due in a couple weeks and this was the perfect place to relax and have a romantic get away together.
The house is just as pictured if not more beautiful in real life. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you need. We picked up fresh local fruits and veggies from the market (Tuesday's & Fridays at the corner of 200 & 201 "Le Grand Parada") and made smoothies with the blender every morning before a quick drive to the beach. Everything you need they've got, washing machine, super comfortable beds, towels and sheets, AC (although we only needed the fans), CD player with great assortment of music. We didn't bring our toddler but definitely noticed that the house is well organized for little kids and they even have a pack n play. We were also pleasantly surprised that none of the linen had strong perfume from detergent that most places have.
Jane was really quick to respond to our inquiry and although they were not there, their house manager Joanne was very friendly and accessible. Everything was super smooth. She helped us rent a car and figure out how to get to the Island. She met us right when we got off the ferry with our rental car just down the road and brought us to the house to show us around. We happened to want to save money on the car rental so used rent a reck through Butch...worked out great until the last day when we got a flat tire, and the spare went flat too but we were really lucky to have a sweet guy help us on the side of the road and even take us to his house to give us a new tire. If you are being tight on money it should be fine but otherwise maybe rent from a place with new cars.
A car is a must in Vieques! Even though the drive to everything is less than 25 minutes you've got to have one to get around and make it a jeep if you can.
What we loved:
- Caracas Beach
- Next Course for dinner - best meal we had
- Bio Bay Tour
- Drive up the atlantic coast east of the ferry and explore some surfing beaches, gorgeous!
- Go to the pier for sunset!
- Shopping at the veggie market, making smoothies, just relaxing.
- Make sure to chat with the lady at Black Beards in town for suggestions on what to do and where to eat.
Also if it matters to you they have a fantastically stocked health food store around the corner from Black Beards.
We would definitely recommend Casa Flamboian and had such a wonderful time! Thank you :)
My wife and I are retired school teachers. We first visited Vieques in 1995 with family friends and quickly fell in love with the beaches and Island charm. In 2007, we decided to buy a home of our own on the Island with our son.
In our spare time, we love to travel and spend time with our family. We have equipped Casa Flamboyan with everything we'd want for an enjoyable family holiday. Just bring your swim suits and enjoy!
