My husband Marty (a retired physics teacher) and I (Mary) (hairdresser, school bus driver) (also retired) have just recently joined this site to share our funky old place with other travelers. We know how much we enjoy a bit of friendly advice about the area we're traveling in when we are on the road, and a nice, clean bed in a home environment at the end of the day.
We are happy to provide a breakfast ( either cooked or cold, depending on what you would prefer (or how early you would like to start your day. We are the town next to Point Pelee National Park which is a haven for birders and hikers. Canoes are available for rent in the park. There are many beaches for swimming.
This area in the Southern most part of Canada has had a blossom of Wineries. Wineries offer tours and tastings and many special events. You could even book a trolly with a group that drives you around to various wineries. In the fall, a marvelous Wine Festival features acclaimed musicians, local wines and gourmet food on the banks of the Detroit River in Amherstburg. While you drive around, buy local vegetables and fruit on many outdoor stands.
We are about a 30 minute drive to Windsor which has lots of wonderful restaurants, live and movie theaters, art galleries, music at various venues, ethnic areas with great shopping, beautiful old Walkerville (the whiskey baron) and a marvelous water front walk and outdoor theater with festivals during the warm weather.
Our own town, Kingsville, is a small town with a big heart. We have a diverse food scene. Sushi, Greek, Chinese, Ale House, Italian and many other places to try. The ferry to Pelee Island leaves the dock at the end of town in the fall and you can take the ferry from Leamington daily in the summer. Pelee Island is a great place to explore on a bike for the day. Don't forget to visit the Winery on the Island.
We are just a few blocks from Lake Erie where you can stroll around Historical Lakeside Park. There are biking and hiking trails throughout town. We have a few bikes for your use.
You are welcome to use the kitchen to cook if you would prefer to save your money for other things.
Marty and I are musicians and we occasionally have House Concerts featuring various musicians. All of our children play instruments and family get togethers are always fun.
Marty and I and our cat, Tom, would be happy to share our home and knowledge of the area. We want you to relax, kick back and discover what our piece of Canada has to offer.
Please tidy up after yourself in the kitchen. We have a cat who is very friendly, but unfortunately, doesn't like sharing his home with other pets. There are many kennels around to for your pets.
Mary's place was just what was needed after a long day! We had a very welcoming, chill, and comfortable stay at her beautiful home. We took advantage of the hot tub to relax, and enjoyed snuggles from her gorgeous cat, Tom :) Definitely recommend staying if in the area!

I was born in this area, but have lived in California, New York and now, back in Essex County. I am retired from the 9 to 5 to pursue a few things I love, like sewing, hosting, cooking and traveling. I've just recently started a clothing line with my daughter called Carma (on facebook) that uses upcycled materials.
I am also a musician. Double bass and ukelele are my instruments. My husband plays guitar and mandolin. All of our children play as well. Music is a big part of who we are. You may even be able to take in a Concert at our place as we feature musicians here from time to time.
We have a cabin in the wilds of Wawa, ON. that we visit when we can. With no running water, (we pump out of the lake ) no hydro (solar and, propane and candles work for us) no flush toilet (Swedish Toilet Seat in outhouse) and wood fired sauna serves our needs. It is our peace place. We can canoe, kayak and swim to our heart's content. And living there with no amenities has shown us how little one needs to live.
Which brings us to AIRBnB. We realize that living in this big old house we own is much too big a footprint. Couple that with the belief that travel fosters peace, renting out a few rooms at a reasonable price is a no brainer.
My husband and I both love to cook and bake so there could be treats about when you arrive. Our house is filled with books that we encourage you to read. And if you play an instrument, we'd love to hear you.
We have lived in this area for many years and have been involved in the art and music scene. We can tell you about restaurants, walks, bike trails, canoe or boating spots, swimming, music........in other words, we do love what this area has to offer and would be happy to share our knowledge with you.
And in the end, as Sarah MacLaughlin says, "Only kindness matters."
