The Thatched Irish Home has an amazing view and is a charming property. It is a lovely quiet setting for a vacation and in a good location for seeing the Ring of Kerry. However, I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the inside of the cabin. There were tons of spider webs, and creepy crawlys, about half the lights were burned out, and the upstairs shower had mildew. The upstairs bathroom was also not wiped clean and there was dusty clumps all over the toilet and the sink. Be warned that we also needed to provide your own toilet paper. We stayed at Maureen's place for 3 days and had to call her at 10:30 one night because the electricity went out. Internet access was an added 10 Euro fee for the three days. I have mixed feelings as it is really a special place, but it needs some love and attention.
Perfect! We rented Maureen's thatched cottage for three nights this month and we couldn't have been happier. Maureen communicated with us from planning, to arrival, to departure. We arrived in the early evening to a nice, warm fire and a clean home.
The views from the cottage are spectacular! We enjoyed coffee on the front porch each morning and a beer and a sunset each evening.
The house had everything we needed. We cooked several meals and we washed clothes.
I would highly recommend Maureen's cottage as a wonderful, traditional way to experience Ireland.
Maureen's seaside cottage was an excellent home-base for our trip around the ring of Kerry.
Originally I was worried that it was too far from Killarney, but the home's character overwhelmed me and we were so glad we stayed there. Nothing else would have compared.
Include this home in your plans and you will not regret it.
We stayed for two nights in mid-April and were lucky with the weather. The home is ideally situated for Ring of Kerry, Skellig Ring, Dingle and has a number of charming features. The thatched roof is nice but the winner is view across Dingle Bay: spectacular, particularly the sunsets.
Unfortunately we had some issues with the stay. The housekeeper was incorrectly told what time we would so upon our on-time arrival we waited outside for an hour. The heating system was on a timer and came on a bit later than we would have liked for a child in the back bedroom and for reasons that were not explained we were without hot water the first day and morning. The host did not respond clearly but at least the very friendly housekeeper made a trip back to unlock the utility room and fix things.
Although it is self-catering, we were pleased to have been provided with some basics for breakfast, but for the price we paid to have the entire house we would have expected a bit more attentiveness and a wider range of kitchen utensils.
The relatively low rating is likely due to some unfortunate circumstances we encountered and the lack of responsiveness by the host; if I were to rate it on location and optics, it would be much higher.
I could not recommend this cottage enough! The pictures honestly do not do it justice. The location is INCREDIBLE!!! We chilled out in the evenings by the fire and cooked in the fully equipped kitchen for ourselves.
Maureen was the most welcoming and considerate host. She gave us excellent recommendations for places to see and walks to do. She is so friendly and completely respectful of your privacy.
If you want a chilled out relaxing weekend with amazing views in one of the most incredible locations in Ireland then book this!
I will 100% be returning to this cottage again.
Absolutely 10 out of 10 on all fronts for this cottage and host.
This is a beautiful cottage in a spectacular location! Unfortunately the weather was miserable while we were there but din't stop us appreciating the amazing scenery. We didn't get to meet the host Maureen in person but she had everything perfectly organised. The house has everything you need - ideal for a family or group (two of us had it completely to ourselves!). Lovely big fire for keeping cosy. Will have to go back in the summer!
