Cead Mile Failte (Irish for 'One Hundred Thousand Welcomes')
I would love you to come and stay with me for a few days=)
First a little about me. I am an easy going person who is good fun to be around and am always keen to meet new people and nationalities. I'm a positive person with a 'can-do' attitude. Travelling is my passion and to date I have been in over 70 countries. So you if want to know what it is like to travel in Iran then I'm your man! Want to know how to travel the Trans-Siberian from Moscow to Beijing or trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal? Ask me! I was on (website hidden) for over a year and have hosted Americans, Canadians, Germans, Dutch, English, Scots, Welsh, French, Spanish and Italians. I'd like to meet more Aussies and Kiwis as I have lived in both countries before and am still in love with the accent but all nationalities are welcome
My degree is in Philosophy & Politics so if you would like to know about recent Irish history and how Northern Ireland and the IRA moved from terrorism to politics and then to peace then I can tell you all about it. But I'm not all boring, I love my music and lots of sports too=)
I live alone in a nice 2 bedroom apartment on the north side of Dublin. I am on 2 bus routes to the city centre. I can rent the room to couples or as a single room- the cost is from €24 for a single room, with an extra guest for €14. Longer stays are also possible, ask me about availability. If you need a twin room there is a comfortable sofa bed alongside the main double bed. The price includes a self-serve breakfast which you can have anytime you rise. Luggage storage is no problem if you have a late flight and would like to see more of the city before you go.
There is a large shopping centre a 2 minute walk away from my apartment should you wish to buy food and self-cater. There is also a Chinese restaurant/takeaway nearby if you don't feel like cooking or I can order for you from any local pizza place, Indian, etc. Or if you want to eat out in the city center and are on a budget (Dublin can be expensive, especially in the tourist area Temple Bar) then I can point you in the direction of some good places to eat without breaking the bank. I can also tell you the best pubs for live Irish music and where you can see an Irish dancing show for free!
As regards breakfast, I normally have the following:- muesli, bread for toast, marmalade, jam, margarine, orange juice, bananas, tea and coffee. If you would like something different let me know and I'll organise it. Fruit, yoghurt, breads are all no problem, just ask!
The apartment has everything you might need for a few days stay, TV, fast wireless internet, breakfast and fresh towels. If you like to play the saxophone you can play mine, just not after 8pm=(
I will give you some keys so you can come and go as you please. I also have lots of tourist brochures and Dublin maps in the apartment- these will save you on a trip to the tourist office in the city.
Finally I can also offer an airport pick-up and drop-off service at an extra cost of €15, which is good value as a taxi is €24 and a bus €9. The bus takes a little over an hour which can be tiring if you have had a long flight. I provide this service so my guests don't have to worry about finding their way to my home from the airport. The pick up service is provided that your flight times fit in with my schedule which they generally do.- just ask me in advance and I will let you know. I will need to know your flight number and the terminal you are landing at the airport- on your ticket it will say Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Once I have this information I will give you instructions on where to meet me. Most guests use the pick up service as it gets them here quickly in under 20 minutes so they can begin their holiday right away. If you wish to use the bus service then just ask me and I will send instructions to you.
So if any of this interests you make sure to get in touch. Anything you need to make your stay in Dublin easy and enjoyable can be provided. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully hosting you soon.
**** PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE MAKING A BOOKING, ESPECIALLY AROUND HOLIDAY TIMES AS I MIGHT HAVE PLANS WITH FRIENDS & FAMILY***
Derek is a nice guy which is very easy to interact with. I had the chance to stay for a week and I felt like in home.
The room is very spacious and nice. One simple bus connects to the city center, and Derek helps you with everything you need to know! :)
Derek was fantastic! When we got there he supplied us with a Dublin travel book and a map, and marked places we should go and bus stops we should use. He completely opened his home to us. The room was great, too, and the bed was really comfortable. All in all, we had a great stay with no complaints.
Derek was a really welcoming, helpful in all, very nice and friendly.
The house is very pretty and the double room is really cozy and comfortable, he helped us in everything.
He showed us transport for the city centre.
City center is at 20 minutes by bus
Me and my partner had the most amazing stay at Dereks. Cozy, private room with a big bed and loads of room to relax. Derek is a great host who makes you feel at home and can provide you with info about basically everything you'd like to know :-) Nice breakfast and good connections to the city center. I highly recommend him as a host if you're visiting Dublin!
I stayed in Dereck's appartment for one week. I travelled alone and it was the best accomodation. He picked me at the airport so I didn't have to look for his appartment. He was always available to discuss but you could stay alone if you want too. He was really helpfull and gave me a lot of advices.
The room is bigger than that you can see on the picture.
I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who travel alone and want a place safe and welcoming.
My boyfriend and I had a great time at Derek's place. Derek was very friendly and helpful. He immediately provided us with a lot of information on shopping, the bus route, the city centre etc and a city map. The place itself is very nice and situated near the city centre.
I can definitely recommend Derek's place to everybody visiting Dublin.
Derek is a kind host and he is helpful to help me in every my desire. The room is very big and comfortable. Derek's home is near to a shopping centre and to the bus stop (9 - 83 - 140: the bus ticket costs 2,40 euros) that bring me to the city centre. I wanna recommend you to book with Derek if u have to stay in Dublin.
Derek is a very kind host and was very flexible with my check-in time. Derek is a night owl, but he woke up early to pick me up at the airport with no problem. While I was staying in Ireland there was a bus strike for a couple of days, but he gave me a ride to the city and he also recommended a taxi cab that gave me a discount. The apartment is very close to the shopping and grocery store, so it helped my budget since I was able to buy some food at the grocery store. The apartment is very close to the bus stop and it's very easy to get to the city. It drops you off at O'Connell Street which only took about 26 minutes. I highly recommend Derek's Airbnb. He is a great host and don't forget to bring him a fridge magnet from your country! :)
