Villa Maria was built for a famous Catalan opera singer in 1900. It has a beautiful garden, spectacular views over Barcelona and is just 20 minutes from the city centre with the Funicular Railway running next to the house.
Villa Maria offers an oasis of calm set in the natural park of Collserolla with incredible views of the city at your feet, particularly suited to individuals and couples who are looking for something different, something greener and away from the tourist hub of the city. Within 50 mts. In the neighborg, there is a full area of services, that includes supermarket, pharmacy, bank atm, etc.
We rent out spacious double room(s) in the Villa, two with ensuite bathroom. The rest of the house, includes yoga space, kitchen and movie room, high speed wifi, 1600m2 garden with balconies and sunbathing spots. The house is non smoking but the garden has plenty of nice spots....
Kitchen, bathroom (with bath), washing machine, dishwasher, high speed internet, projector movie, desktop computer, garage with two parking places, a tremendous garden and orchard.
Interaction with Guests
We are a small community of six people, we speak English, French, Spanish and Catalan, in a relaxed, quiet and peaceful environment. Normally we have breakfast or diner with our guests, and the can reach us at any time. Because the Villa is also home-office, there is always someone around happy to give directions, help as needed or just have a coffee in the garden.
Situated in a quiet neighborhood with all amenities 50 meters from the house, ATM, supermarket, hairdresser, restaurant (Casa Trampa, one of the most famous in the area), meatshop, hairdresser, etc..
Another nearby neighborhood, 8 minutes by train, is "Sarria" one of the most exclusive areas of Barcelona, where you will find good restaurants (like "El Vell Sarria", specializing in rice) and the bar with the best "patatas bravas" in the city, "Bar Thomas ".
Public transport is (literally) next to the house (12 meters). This takes you, through the district of "Gracia" to Plaza Catalunya. It has a frequency of 4 minutes during day, and takes about 14 minutes to get to Plaza Catalunya.
Arriving by car is also easy, it takes about 25-30 from Plaza Catalunya and the house has a garage with two parking spaces.
Other Things to Note
The Villa is located in the Collserola mountain, wich is declared Natural Park. If you like walking, you can take long walks around the area, Carretera de Aiguas, one of the most popular routes from which you can walk up Tibidabo, with amazing views of Barcelona, a swamp, the mountain ... the jewel of the crown of Varcelona
Collserola is nature, the kind of nature that brings fresh air to life in the city. The information center is the main host and reference point for visitors, providing basic, practical and general information: places, activities (themed rides, guided walks), transport, services ... The information center is located in "Carretera de l'Església, 92", steps from the villa.
You can smoke and bring pets, but should be OUTSIDE of the house, in the garden, wich is secure and it has plenty space.
We had a wonderful time at Barcelona and at the Villa Maria.
When we arrived, Helloise and Alexis prepared us a deliciuos breakfast in the garden (with pretty fresh picked flowers on the plates!).
At our first evening, Helloise and me cooked together with fresh vegetables from the garden. That was fun!
Helloise was always very helpful with information and tipps.
Villa Maria ist a clean and tidy place. And the garden (it is really a park) is so wonderful, and you have a unbelievable sight over the city.
Thank you for your hospitality :-)
Thank you so much to Heloise for your hospitality and a big thanks to Lu and Alexis! Their house is absolutely exquisite! They went above and beyond to accommodate us and I really appreciate that! :-) going to the great lengths of getting a Christmas tree by hacking down a tree in their back yard, booking taxis, they are literally the perfect hosts!!!
We rented the villa as a family of 8 during Christmas and new years and I must say we have the fondest memories, being around the table facing the stunning yoga room with a view that is breathtaking. Being in the cinema room and screening movies with a sound system that bellowed christmas hits around the house come Christmas morning.
Lastly The transport is also a real big hit! They mentioned that their is a tram close to the house but they really need to emphasise that it is in your back yard. Ever so silent and perfect for going into the city at arms reach! I can't honestly brag enough. Will definitely recommend, as there were no faults. A perfect 10/10 vacation :-)
The house is charming and the views are stunning. I enjoyed both my stay and a great company of Heloise, Alexis and Lu. They are very helpful hosts and I felt like home in this unique location above Barcelona. The place is easy to reach by public transport and it is a good option to relax after a day in bustling city.
Great location and interesting hosts BUT we found it depressing since the house is not really in great shape. The formerly grand garden is crumbling with no evidence of upkeep - it is a rented property. We were charged a substantial cleaning fee on top of the accommodation fee (akin to an extra charge for clean dishes at a restaurant). Not sure what the cleaning was for, since we had mold on our shower curtain. Breakfast preparation on Day 2 consisted of directions to a local restaurant!!
Wonderful place. Welcomed me and provided wonderful experience. Excellent location to get to Barcelona, peaceful and restful vacation. Wonderful hosts.
We stayed at Villa Maria for the first 6 nights of our 2 week trip through Spain. It was the first time we used airbnb to reserve a private room rather than a private apartment and I admit we were initially a bit anxious about spending nearly a week as house guests with "strangers".
In retrospect staying at the villa and getting to meet Heloise, Alexis and Lu turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip. They were wonderfully warm and intelligent and went above and beyond in making us feel welcome. We had a few delicious meals together and some very interesting conversations on the current state of affairs in Spain and Israel - our country of origin. Everybody spoke English - which we gradually discovered was very rare in Spain. Great people. I wish we could have taken them with us for the rest of our trip. Or at least borrowed Lu's cooking superpowers (not to mention energy!).. We had a beautiful kitchen in a private apartment we rented in Seville which was left sadly unused.
The location was literally a breath of fresh air. Vallvidrera is a sleepy, hillside neighborhood, surrounded by nature, at the top of the funicular. It feels like a world away from busy, touristy Barcelona, despite only being 20-25 minutes from Plaza Catalunya, the city center.
The villa itself is beautiful and spacious, especially the garden! The photos don't quite do it justice. I regret we didn't get more time to enjoy it - seeing as how we spent most of our time racing to scratch off various sights in the city off our list. It was a wonderful retreat though and the breathtaking, crystal clear view of the city below was a great way to start our days there.
All in all, we had a wonderful stay and an altogether great experience. The only part I didn't enjoy was having to say goodbye. Amazing place, wonderful people. Highly (website hidden): If you're lucky enough to stay there - take more time to explore the surroundings and engage more with the local community if you get a chance. That's my only regret. The touristy areas in Barcelona don't seem to have anything but tourists and the locals serving them. The architecture (e.g., Gaudi, Guell) is famous for its attempts to imitate nature. Around the villa you get the real deal. Real people, real nature.
I rented this place as a location for a photo shooting. The place has a very strong character, amazing views over whole Barcelona area and a fantastic garden. Héloise and Alexis were doing everything to help us with our production. An all-over nice experience!
