We stayed one week at Francesca's apartment for our first skiing holiday in the Dolomites in early February. The apartment is comfortable with nice linens and plenty of cupboard space, a clean bathroom, and the kitchen is well-stocked for self-catering. Lots of great touches such as the coffee machine and a welcome pack of eggs, biscuits, milk and fruit. We had one power cut (when using the stove and oven at the same time) but it wasn't an issue once we found the mains box. Wifi worked perfectly. Francesca was always available when needed and Roberto was very helpful.
The highlight had to be the location. Bellamonte is a beautiful little hamlet in the mountains and despite the heaviest snowfall the region had seen in a while, the roads were cleared twice a day and gritted. The family CoOp at the bottom of the road was well stocked and Predazzo has larger supermarkets. We found some lovely local cuisine and restaurants; a special mention to Hotel Foresta outside Predazzo and Agritur El Mas in Moena. Hugo is now our favourite aperitif and for fans of smelly cheeses - Puzzone is a hit.
Ski centre Alpe Lusia deserves a mention. It's a perfect beginners' and family facility with plenty of long blues and easy reds all excellently maintained and I found a brilliant English-speaking instructor.
We miss it already!
Appartamento ben accessoriato, riscaldato e corredato. Spazioso, ospita comodamente 5 persone.
We have come back recently from Francesca's apartment (we stayed there in winter for skiing) and I am so glad to place my review here. First I would like to say something about Francesca. She is the greatest host I have ever met. Communicating with her you feel as if you communicate with your old friend. From the very beginning she was so helpful and supportive!!! We are Russians and as a result we need to obtain entry visa and she did her best for us to get it. The Embassy requests host's passport copy and Francesca sent it to us which was absolutely unusual since others hearing about it refused immediately (don’t understand why). Some people started offering to get in touch with them via different social networks to avoid AIRBNB fees – which was not acceptable for me since I prefer to do everything transparently (especially first time). During our stay there Francesca was always on-line with us if we need anything, responding very quickly.
Regarding apartment - I can add nothing, you see everything at the pictures. Location is lovely. Apartment itself: very comfortable beds, warm quilts, good pillows. Bathroom was ready for us with stock of towels. Even biscuits and milk was left on the table so that we don’t starved having come late in the evening when all shops were closed. You can find there all domestic appliances you might need. The area is very quiet: mountains around you, pines and you can even hear the voice of the stream just near the house!!! Just lovely! Internet/WiFi worked very well. Instructions left in the house were very clear. Roberto, the man who handed over the keys to us was also very helpful and always in time if we needed his help despite he doesn't speak English. In short I was very happy to have chosen this place and apartments. You have a lot of different slopes around the area and every day you can go to explore another one. We were travelling by car and it wasn't a problem for us. Parking was just near the apartment. Me and my family had an excellent and fantastic vacation and highly recommend Francesca's place. If I decide next year to go there I will definitely stay at Francesca's apartment.
I left a small baf in the apartment and sent a text to Francesca. She was not at home but Alfredo, her husband, called me immediately to assure that everything would be find and they would send it to a friend of mine in Italy (I asked Francesca to do so). They are great!!!
Francesca, thank you so much for your hospitality!!!!! Love you guys!!!
Semplicemente meraviglioso!
I would like to recommend Francesca’s apartment specifically and the location in general. My husband, 2 kids (6 and 8 years old) and I just spent there a week, and it was all that we could ask for. The apartment is beautiful, comfortable, fully equipped, and very clean. Francesca’s is very responsive – she answered all my questions and requests very quickly, and I had quite few... Roberto, the person that takes care of the apartment, came to give us the keys in the middle of the night due to our late arrival, and gladly, Except for that, his services were not needed.
Regarding the location and area – I have traveled the world, and I warmly recommend the dolomites. The views are breathtaking, and everywhere you look, it’s just amazingly beautiful - Mountains, forests, streams, small villages with typical Tyrolean houses. The area worth visiting is huge, and you can easily spend there a week.
The location of the apartment is excellent. It is located in a small and quiet village (Bellamonte), 10 minutes drive from a very small town (Predazzo). There is a grocery shop in a walking distance, and a big supermarket in Predazzo. There are quite many tourists in the area during August.
Bottom line – I highly recommend. We had a great time, and it was one of our best vacations ever.
We will repeatedly recommend Francesca's apartment to our friends and family. It was spotless and had everything we could possibly need. Roberto was very helpful and friendly. The location is beautiful. We had several different places to see in the Dolomiti, so for us, it was a quiet and scenic refuge of our own.
Thank you Francesca for making us welcome.
My wife and I stayed at Francesca’s apartment for 5 weeks, over the December and January period. As we specifically wished to ski the Dolomites, we thought the apartment at Bellamonte was in an ideal location. This proved to be the case with the closest field (Alpe Lusia) only 2km away, Latemar about 8km and many other lovely ski fields only slightly further. A ½ hour drive gave access to the famous Sellaronda, one of the most picturesque ski tours in the world. The region is a visual delight being surrounded by the rugged and colourful mountains of the Dolomites.
The apartment suited us ideally – it is very cosy, has modern decor, has good facilities, is well heated and well-furnished and is meticulously clean. It is essentially, a fully self-contained home. It was lovely to return there each day and relax in comfort after skiing. Aside from the Christmas / New Year period, Bellamonte is very quiet and peaceful, though even with the Christmas holidaymakers, the village and the ski fields are relatively uncrowded. Predazzo is an easy 5km drive to bigger supermarkets, shops, restaurants and other facilities. Historical cities such as Bolzano and Trento are only a 1hr drive away.
Though Roberto, Francesca’s charming host, does not speak English, he still conveyed things very clearly to us and was readily available if needed. Similarly, Francesca was readily contactable via email or phone and her English skills are excellent. Our mistake was not obtaining a SIM card immediately upon arrival from Austria to enable phone contact with Francesca/Roberto to enable immediate access to the apartment when arriving in Bellamonte. Francesca was most helpful in arranging computer and unrestricted Internet service to us and we found that facility to be very worthwhile/essential. She quickly responded to our enquiries and ensured that our stay was as smooth as possible.
Provision of undercover parking was a bonus, ensuring extra security (hardly needed in a small village like Bellamonte) and hassle free driving in snowy weather. In heavy snowfalls, the access street was quickly ploughed and gritted and footpaths cleared.
Thank you Francesca for providing your charming home and enabling us to experience a wonderful stay, skiing the Dolomites. We would love to return sometime in the future.
If you have the chance to go to the Dolomites, GO! That being said I would stay some somewhere else.
The house is in a good location for skiing and hiking. And the house does look like the photos.
Where we had issues was with the house. Due to lack of communication and poor directions we had a day with no power, another with no heat, another with no internet and another with no washing machine. All of these issues COULD have been avoided, but the owner does not live close and the host did not know how to fix these things.
Like I said the house was nice, but each of these issues took time, energy and required us to get an Italian phone to trouble shoot with the owner.
WE LOVED the Dolomites, but felt the price was high for the season and the hassel we had.
We had asked ahead of time if various things were open, and while we were told they were (such as a local pizza place and various restaurants) they were not. So we had a hard time getting food and had to drive further for basics.
None of these issues were super major, but everyday we felt like we were "fixing" something.
Francesca's house is pretty much as described: it is one of a row in a small terrace of holiday homes. We found it clean, comfortable, and in general well provided for. While we were there for an 8 day walking holiday in August there it was also mostly quiet at night. We found Francesca to be very prompt and helpful in responding to our queries, as was Roberto who manages the property for her at the location. The house is near the higher end of the village, very well placed for walkers; from there you can walk straight up into the forest and mountains, where you can enjoy the wonderfully peaceful scenery of the Dolomites. Parking under a house just opposite the property was provided, and this is certainly needed as in general places to park are in very short supply.
That said, August is definitely not the best time for hikers to visit this really beautiful part of Europe; the few main roads and the villages along them are seriously overcrowded with summer tourists who generate traffic jams, and whose appreciation of nature is open to question given their apparent addiction to the noise which they choose to generate with various electronic devices operating at maximum volume. Even in August however you can escape from them by climbing into the mountains while avoiding ski lifts (city noise addicts are generally too lazy to climb), but according to all accounts, if you can manage it, any time other than August and the skiing season is far preferable for a visit. Furthermore prices drop dramatically outside the limited holiday season; the advertised rental rate of this house dropped from what seems a somewhat high £85 per day in August to a much more reasonable £47 per day in September.
We enjoyed our stay at the apartment at the beginning of August 2012. We liked it"s location,it"s style and size. It was so comfortable - the hosts thought of everything to make our stay pleasant. There is also a kithen you can cook in.I am sure you will have a good time at the apartment.
