  • Partly sweet, but a lot of sour.
Our key problem was the lack of communication from Katie after we paid our money in July (for a 2 week stay over Christmas and New Year). Numerous emails, phone messages on 4 different numbers, still remain unanswered today. Truly unbelievable and VERY stressful!
We were scheduled to arrive on Christmas Eve from Australia, and it wasn't until a few days before that we were given any information about how to to get into the apartment if we were delayed. Once we got in the door (delayed a lot as it turned out), things got worse. We know this is Airbnb, but even so, the apartment looked like the owners had just stepped out for a moment, and left everything pretty much where it was, and in the state it was. No provision whatsoever had been made for us hang/put away any of our clothes - every drawer, wardrobe and hanger was completely full (remember this was a 2 week stay); 2 potties were plonked right in front of the toilets in BOTH bathrooms, together with a rich assortment of rubber duckies and other toys crowding the bathtub; NO instructions of any kind were provided to operate the heating, lighting, TV, ovens, any of the appliances, or indeed for anything else you need to do in a 2 week stay, like disposing of garbage and recyclables, replacing the drinking water, etc. There was also, inexplicably for a home of this quality and price, no toaster, no microwave, no DVD or CD player, and a system so byzantine to get TV or music playing (only from an iPhone) that we mostly gave up. After a LOT of fiddling around, we managed to get the odd-numbered channels on the TV to work, and, after we contacted Airbnb with our complaints, our hosts had a second hand DVD player delivered, but even this - with no manual and no remote - could not be induced to work. The housekeeper was scheduled to come in to clean the place after the first week too, but even she was a no-show, turning up (early this time) only on the day of our departure, and only to move in a bunch of bags and groceries and take over the kitchen to cook lunch for the hosts!
We had read previous reviews of the apartment, and they seemed fine - so why did we get such shabby treatment? Perhaps our hosts aren't used to long stays such as ours, and our experience speaks to the difference that makes in what's needed - and expected - by the guest, but whichever way you look at it, this was not acceptable service for the money paid. On a brighter note, the apartment itself is lovely, the location's great, the coffee machine is spectacular, and the views of the Empire State are lovely at night.

    Response from Katie:

Thank you so much for your feedback. Since your stay we've updated our Audio Visual system with a no fuss remote and accessible movie library. As for getting back to you Peter, I called you in Australia and texted you frequently to respond to your many concerns. Regarding storage there were three empty drawers open for your use as well as ample hanging space in the master bedroom, but the second bedroom did not have hanging space so we have ameliorated this for our next guests and have since moved our spring clothes to storage. Thanks again for your insights. Lastly, there is no housekeeping included in the Airbnb stay, one must arrange that separately and you emailed me that it would not be necessary, so I'm not sure why you thought that a cleaner would come any time other than check in and check out which is customary. That our housekeeper made us lunch after your noon checkout when we invited you to stay until 5pm so you wouldn't have to get to the airport early for your late flight is true. We had to feed our 2 year old son and we invited you and your wife and eat with us. So sorry there was too much sourness we really tried to please you.

  • Such a beautiful house in a great and convenient location!

  • We had a great time staying at this gorgeous home. We had 3 adults and 2 kids, and it was very spacious and comfortable. It's a perfect location in a lovely neighborhood. We would grab bagels for breakfast from Murray's just a few blocks away, and we even walked just a few blocks in the other direction on Thanksgiving morning to catch the parade. Katie was a wonderful host. We'd love to stay here again sometime. Highly recommended.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Katie's pad and would thoroughly recommend the apartment. As a family of five who like our space, we found the large open living area really spacious and comfortable. The views of the city are great and the location is very convenient for subway and walking about town. The apartment is thoughtfully designed and has a fabulous light and bright feel whilst also being fashionable. It was a real pleasure staying and communicating with Katie and a big thank you from our family.

  • My apologies this is long overdue. The week that my husband, our 3.5 yr
old and I spent at Katie's place this fall was absolutely fabulous! It was
the first time that I had been to NY and truly we couldn't have been in a
better location. We were able to get everywhere easily whether is was by
taxi, subway or on foot. The layout of the home is perfect for families and
it was great that our son had his own room and area around the house to
play in. We have traveled with him since he was born and it was the first
time we had been in a home that we didn't have to continue to worry about
what he was getting into. The apartment is in a secure building with very
nice neighbors and tenants. Their housekeeper and her daughter our lovely.
Her daughter babysat one evening and our son had the best time with her!
Simply I felt like we got the quintessential New York experience and I
can't wait to go back! Thank you again for your hospitality and
    thoughtfulness!!

  • Katie's place is amazing. As others have said, the pictures - though completely accurate - don't do it justice. She was a perfect and thoughtful host. I was traveling with 3 adults and a baby and everything was taken care of in terms of amenities. The location is fantastic as well. Central to everything and provides access to multiple subway lines. I would rate this 10 stars if I could!

  • Beautiful space, fantatsic location and views, amazing design/style and wonderful hosts. Katie was great with everything including local tips/recommendations. The apartment is just as inpressive in real life as it is in the photographs. It has everything you could need. The espresso machine is beautiful. The building is very safe and has a great feel. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's just so much nicer than staying in a hotel.

  • The situation in Chelsea is perfect to go up or downtown, close to restaurants and to Wholefood, which is ideal to shop when you went to eat "at home". It is also very calm

The appartment is incredibly lightful and it looks like newyorker archetyp (loft, indus and arty, view on the Empire....)
The bedrooms and bath attached are dispatched on each side of the appartment, they are very confortable

We have really no surprise and feel very well like we leave there ...
we were with two teens but it would have been perfect for two couples

Kathy is very nice and helpful

    Ina word : awesome !
