About this listing
Maison Elma is a unique, open courtyard house in the very center of the unesco listed medina of Essaouira, Morocco.
The house is on two floors with terraces on two floors. The rooms are organized around the courtyard, making it very open and spacious. You have your own peace of sky, and tranquility and can hear the ocean at every time. In the months from May to November it is nice to enjoy the fresh air and temperatures allow to stay outside on the terraces until late at night.
Facilities include a bedroom with a bathroom on each floor, kitchen, living room with fireplace and the two terraces. Internet, clothes washing and cleaning is possible for a moderate fee during your stay.
The house is behind the fish and vegetables market which makes shopping extremely easy and pleasant. Just next door are two Hammams for an authentic bath experience.
We are happy to guide and assist you during your stay.
We speak Arabic, French and English.
We look forward to welcome you in our open terrace house and tranquil atmosphere.
About the city:
Welcome to Essaouira! No longer a mid-1960's hippy hangout (Jimi Hendrix used to party here); Essaouira has evolved into a still-undiscovered gem of pristine beaches, great windsurfing, laid back nightspots and hearty restaurants. The narrow streets keep traffic to a minimum and encourage walking. With little effort you'll find yourself walking past the multi-colored doors, tall stucco-colored houses and the eclectic mix of euro-tourism and weather-worn locals.
Very important :
Unregistered guests are not permitted entry into the house.
We had a wonderful stay in Maison Elma. The house is beautiful and full of charm and we were made to feel very comfortable. The living areas are very cool and airy even when the weather gets hot and the bedrooms were nice and cool too. Also, despite being in a very central location the house is very quiet and peaceful. An absolutely fantastic place to stay for your trip to Essaouira! The only one difficult we had was finding it when we first arrived so if you are planning a trip maybe think about that in advance.
Essaouria is a dream! This little fishermen's beach town was even better because we had thee most charming and unique place to stay with very caring hosts who went a over and beyond for us.
Danke Naima & Hamid!
Naima and Hamid were such fantastic hosts. They welcomed us warmly, organised trips and told us about great places to eat. We loved the house it was wonderful to be able to live like a local and have them both close by. They are both full of positive energy and couldn't do enough for us. They even managed to fix a first day puncture on my wheelchair (in record time) and arranged a hammam for the girls.
We loved Essaouira and experiencing the true side of the medina was priceless. Thank you guys for making our stay so special xx
The house and external area were really picturesque with nice colours, plants etc. Both the kitchen and the bathrooms were functional and there was enough space for 6 persons to sleep, which was plenty for the 3 friends we were. It was a nice and quiet place although in the center of the Medina. Naima was a good host and helped us solving problems along the way.
