Maison Elma is a unique, open courtyard house in the very center of the unesco listed medina of Essaouira, Morocco.
The house is on two floors with terraces on two floors. The rooms are organized around the courtyard, making it very open and spacious. You have your own peace of sky, and tranquility and can hear the ocean at every time. In the months from May to November it is nice to enjoy the fresh air and temperatures allow to stay outside on the terraces until late at night.
Facilities include a bedroom with a bathroom on each floor, kitchen, living room with fireplace and the two terraces. Internet, clothes washing and cleaning is possible for a moderate fee during your stay.
The house is behind the fish and vegetables market which makes shopping extremely easy and pleasant. Just next door are two Hammams for an authentic bath experience.
We are happy to guide and assist you during your stay.
We speak Arabic, French and English.
We look forward to welcome you in our open terrace house and tranquil atmosphere.
About the city:
Welcome to Essaouira! No longer a mid-1960's hippy hangout (Jimi Hendrix used to party here); Essaouira has evolved into a still-undiscovered gem of pristine beaches, great windsurfing, laid back nightspots and hearty restaurants. The narrow streets keep traffic to a minimum and encourage walking. With little effort you'll find yourself walking past the multi-colored doors, tall stucco-colored houses and the eclectic mix of euro-tourism and weather-worn locals.
Very important :
Unregistered guests are not permitted entry into the house.
This place in Essaouira is really awesome, we loved it! It is really nice furnished, you can everything you need for staying there a couple of days. We even cooked from time to time, nothing to complain for us!
Even if we didn't have the best weather we felt quite comfortable in the house - without a roof in the middle! Hamid and Naima are wonderful, there are always available to help, to answer questions, to drink a tea in the street! Our children loved this house, playing soccer in the front place with the other boys, enjoying the beach not far away and getting some bread from our 'bakery'. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much!
We really loved our three days in Essaouira, and staying at the Drissi Elma House made it a really special oasis from the wind and the crowds. It has a fantastic central location, really spacious and is decorated beautifully. The top terrace catches lots of sun and we loved the array of plant pots.
Naima couldn't have been more helpful, suggesting things local things for us to do, places to eat and even booking us a Hammam and then walking us there herself.
We would definitely recommend both the Drissi's and Maison Elma to anyone!
We - four best aged girls on a trip through morocco - spent four rainy days in this nice and typical house in the medina of Essaouira. We can imagine that it would even be much more enjoyable with warm and sunny wheather ! So we will have to come back to meet Naima and Hamid again, who are such a nice and helpful couple! They recommended good restaurants - Hamid took us with him to show us various-, arranged a transport to the airport of Agadir with a very good and responsibly driver and helped us whenever the girls in the room downstairs where not able to turn on the heating:) Nice place, nice people!
The house is a beautiful sanctuary and was just what we needed after our stay in Marrakech.
The house is beautifully decorated and very warm when the sun is up.
There's a family run restaurant that do the best authentic cuisine right on the doorstep, we highly recommend you try it. It's on the little square at the end of the alleyway as you come out of the house.
Upon arrival we struggled to find the place, but the local people were very helpful and showed us were to go.
Mahmoud was very friendly and showed us around the house. He was available when needed but generally we didn't see him much as we were out most of the time.
We're really pleased we stayed here and would definitely choose the place if we come back to essouiarra.
We had a great time staying here! The house is so beautifull, charming and comfortable :-) And lovely people! Thanks again!
