Welcome to Darmada situated on the ridge of the river Unda in Sidemen Valley. Darmada was created to preserve nature and a holy spring. Darmada is an unique Eco resort, offering 7 bungalows on a hectare of gorgeous, natural land. Darmada is as tranquil and beautiful as it is unique. The property is teeming with butterflies and birds which live in the gardens. It really is like a mini paradise.
The owners Wayan and Barbara have quite a vision for their business. They also have a tiles workshop nearby which makes traditional hand made tiles that are real works of art.
If you're an animal lover, you'll be happy to know that there are 2 cats and 1 dog here- perfect if you've left your pets behind on your travels and are missing them. They're great surrogates! Sometimes you might see 3 loveable ducks waddling around as well. If animals aren't your thing it's not a problem because they're all rather unobtrusive and will only engage with you if you invite them to.
Wayan, Barbara and their staff are friendly and welcoming. Wayan and Barbara are particularly easy to talk to and are most down to earth. We were very sorry to leave. It's so charming here that we'll have to come back on our next trip to Bali for our dose of chill.
Perfect room for a calm and peaceful stay in the middle of the nature. I definitely recommend this place !
Darmada is a proper functioning guesthouse, and as such is a little bit different from a typical Airbnb listing. But it really is the most incredible place. There are currently only 7 rooms, and the whole operation is carefully built so as to not disturb the surrounding nature and farmland. The valley is exquisite and peaceful - a great respite from the bustle of Ubud. Service is polite and helpful, but not overattentive. Wayan is ready to help with any requests and suggestions that you may have. The pool is awesome.
I could see how this may not be the ideal stay for everyone: it is out in farmland where you will deal with lots of bugs and spiders, a cacophany of frogs in the evening, and very little to do socially. But if you don't mind these things and are looking for somewhere peaceful and beautiful to escape to and explore, Wayan's guesthouse is ideal.
I thought that place was amazing, very very beautiful setting, everything is done with great taste.
The area is very quiet but the nature is fantastic, and it is possible to rent a moped at Darmada for very little money, and from there you can make it to the coast in about an hour or to some temples if you prefer.
I would definitely recommend this place for a true taste of Bali!
Our stay at Darmada was quite an experience, but not in a good way unfortunately.
First of all, the B&B is not easy to find, even for our driver
who had to ask local people to find it.
When we arrived, there was absolutely nobody there to welcome us. The "front desk" looks more like a stock room, full of boxes and stuff. So we had to look for staff at the restaurant. There, the first thing they asked us is if we booked with Airbnb: no hello, no welcome and no smile at all. They hardly spoke english.
Then, a guy took our luggage and disappeared with it, we had once again to go look for him.
The surroundings of the place itself are amazing, in the nature, near a river, it's beautiful. The room is very nice too.
Sadly, the swimming pool looks more like a frogs pond, it was dirty. The breakfast is ridiculously small and not tasty, we didn't even try to get food from there other than this only one breakfast. We could have coped with that for 2 nights, if only the people there was friendly and happy to welcome us, but nothing made us feel comfortable.
We tried to book a trip around the area for the next day, the prices from the different drivers in Sidemen were very expensive compared to the other areas in Bali, almost double the price of other drivers and no possible negociation.
Anyway, we felt stuck in this place, uncomfortable, and with not much to do really, specially with our ghosts hosts who didn't help us to organize anything. So we decided to stay only 1 night and asked to speak to the owner to try to arrange something.
When he arrived, he didn't introduce himself and didn't seem interested to know the reasons why we wanted to leave his place. He just told us that there's no way we could find an arrangement. Anyway, few other things happened but that would be too long to tell.
I just want to say that it's a shame, there are so many amazing places in Bali, with such nice people and a great service provided.
We've just wasted our time and money.
We have had a splendid time at Wayan B&B.. The garden And pool are very well designed. The apartments are simple but nicely decorated And clean. I loved the outdoor shower that was always strong and warm. They newly build honeymoon suite And family suite looked great. I would highly recommend staying with Wayan And his lovely Dutch wife. If you want to get away from all The tourist madness around Ubud and the beaches and Really experience The Rice fields, local Balinese people its villages And life as it used to be than this is The right choice. The nature is amazing and the place is tranquile. My Little children got sick- both The staff And later Wayan And his wife were very concerned And Made sure we had all we needed. A doctor (medic) was called upon immediately after we had requested.
Also Wayan can help arrange trips to temple, vulcano, Rice fields etc.
The specials on The menu are worthwhile ordening in advance. Breakfast is good- rest of menu is fine. I would recommend asking for a slightly more spicy variant if you fancy that. There are several other places where you can eat to in the village. A ten minute walk.
Wayan who as lived in The Netherlands And he speaks fluent Dutch which is nice And handy if you come from Holland. Do bring so 'drop' for his beautiful kids.
the Airport pick up was also very well arranged And they even had diner ready for Us although we arrived very late at night. I also appreciated The fact that Wayan and his wife Really try And improve life of the other people in The Village in various ways.
