The shiva rooms are located far away from hustling city. Good to relax and calm down. The room is separated from a very beautiful garden through a small river. We stayed only one night. We experienced an open-air sleeping feeling - You shouldn't be afraid of mosquitoes and spiders or sensitive to noise ;) Staff was really nice. Breakfast small-sized but good.
Très belle chambre et d'une grande propreté.
Le lieu est magnifique et idéal pour se ressourcer.
Wayan et son équipe nous ont très bien accueillis, et nous les remercions pour ce doux séjour.
"The real Bali" is probably one of the most overused tourism marketing terms, but I'm guessing it doesn't get much closer than this. At least during off-season - we were here early May and were told the area (Sidemen) gets almost a bit crowded in July/August.
Anyway - it was an oasis of peace for us after escaping Kuta and Ubud. I found this gem by accident on Airbnb. The staff is friendly, helpful, approachable and attentive, yet unobtrusive. The rooms are simple, but clean and beautiful, especially the outdoor bath rocks. But the setting beats it all. Naturally fitted between two small rivers, this is rather a park than a hotel. Beautifully and carefully shaped, as the owners Barbara and Wayan take pride in interfering as little as necessary with nature. We instantly felt relaxed, decelerated and at home.
Got distracted from star-gazing by some fireflies, then fell asleep in the hammock on our patio to the sound of the river.
And the food is awesome. All fresh, much of it from the own garden. Don't miss Sate Lilit (thanks for the recipe!) and the truly Dangerous Carrot Cake.
We had booked 2 nights, ended up staying 3 and wouldn't have minded staying longer.
Do rent a scooter and guide. The surroundings are just stunning. Small villages, picturesque rice terraces, beautiful temples on hilltops, and impressive views of Gunung Agung behind every corner. If you want, get a glimpse at how locals make their living (arak distiller, silversmith, sarong weaver,...), but here you get the real deal, one-family 'businesses' in a hut between banana trees, instead of tourist showrooms on the road from Kuta to Ubud.
Unlike other resorts, Wayan works with other locals to provide all these add-ons (transport, rental, tours, massage,...) as he wants to help maintain a healthy village community. Spend time talking to him - he is a great host and a captivating personality.
Ah, no TV or Internet. Loved it (although addicted to the web when at home).
But the downside: one bed sheet?!?! ;-) hehehe
Wayan is a sweet and dedicated host-- the space is stunning, and feels a lot like an eco-resort, with the bathroom overlooking a rushing river and a porch out front. There are a good amount of mosquitoes as there are windows and artwork, but you're safe in the mosquito net and the space is too tastefully decorated to complain! Loved the company and the romantic eating/ restaurant area-- the food could be a bit more innovative as the space is in the middle of a very remote area with no other eating options (and no Internet!) so things are a bit overpriced, but otherwise highly recommended as an adventure.
We decided that we needed a break and found our way to Bali. Our stay at Darmada was the last stop during our trip to Bali... Wayan refers to the area as the unspoiled Bali, we think he is totally right!
The surroundings are great: lovely nature, beautiful rice paddies just way too nice. Wayan and his family have created a lovely resort: the rooms are nicely decorated, the bathroom super.
Truly amazing. This is a boutique hotel in the middle of the jungle!! Just great!!
This place is a stunner. Quite in the middle of nowhere in a tinny village Wayan built a real beautiful hideway with a wonderful garden and very nice and clean bungalows with great terraces including lounge and hammock. The pool area is also really nice though the pool itself was unfortunately not very full nor very clean. All in all it was more of a hotel atmosphere than the usual air B'n'B feeling. Wayan wasn't around too much but he's a very nice guy and the staff is really friendly and happy to help as well. The river raftig near Sidemen is great fun and if you'd like to have a look around the area we'd recommend to rent a scooter which you'll get right there for a good price. Organized tours they offered (like trekking to Mt. Agug, 900 000 idr) seemed real high priced to us so you might want to check out other options. Though big praise to the massage ladies, their great and worth every pence! All in all thanks for a real nice stay and thumbs up :)
If you look for a quiet place you found it! Darmada's room are very nice, well decorated with amazing tiles! the place is the most quiet place that we found in Bali, it was one of my favorite stay! This area gave a us strong feeling with the way of living in bali f! We were lucky to met some nice people around the hotel... you can have long walk in the rice terraces, you will feel the time going slowly. About the hotel, the staff is very helpful and they will help to make your stay very pleasant! if you are lucky, speak with Wayan and Barbara, they are interesting people, we liked very much the approach the have with their business, they respect the nature and human being you can feel it!
Plus that, the food is good! try the chocolate cake and the carot cake...
I want to go back NOW!
Beautiful and clean room on a lovely location. Very friendly hosts and staff. They were a great source of information for us and our children.
We had an extremely pleasant stay at Sideman. Pick up at airport was arranged well, once we got to the hotel they staff was ready to run around with our luggage although late at night and despite the heavy rains. They even had food ready feor us and welcome drinks. the apartments are basic but cosy with great veranda's. I loved The outdoor bathroom And The shower was great too. The kids loved The swimming pool. The garden is very well designed too. If you love The countryside And like to see Bali as it was instead of The madness at The beaches than this is your perfect hideaway. Your host can arrange taxis, tours- just ask.
The owner has lived in Holland and his wife is Dutch So for The Dutch people they can even speak their own language once you have arrived. Do bring " drop" for they lovely kids.
My kids got ill and they came round themselves as soon as they heard from their staff; e to see if we needed help. Also they are very committed to improve life of The people in The villages which I appreciated a lot.
Breakfast was fine too and I would only recommend asking for slightly more spicy version of The Mains if you fancyfair that. I can recommend The specials they offer. If you walk down to The Village you Will also find some other places to eat.
Highly recommend staying at Sideman. It is a hidden germ- not to be missed!!!! My Mother who has lived in Indonesia as a child felt as if we had found a precious place. Bali as it used to be in The passed but then adjusted to today's times.
