Ideal home for a family get-away or a couple. A quiet tree-filled neighborhood only a walk away from the bustle of Capitol Hill!
From the street level, you travel up a flight of stairs under a hazelnut tree to our front door, next to the wisteria at the edge of the porch. Entering our foyer brings you to the mid-level of the house, including a simple coat closet and second door leading out to the side yard and detached office "cabana."
Up from the foyer, the living areas of our home make up the top floor, with a fully-open cathedral-ceiling living room / kitchen / dining room and a lovely balcony under a huge maple tree with views of the Washington Park Arboretum and the Cascade Mountains beyond. The kitchen is brand-new, and a joy to cook in.
Down from the foyer, the two bedrooms and one bathroom make up the bottom floor. The "grown-ups" bedroom is small, at the rear of the house. The "kids" bedroom is larger, including a twin bed with trundle and a crib mattress on the floor for our pre-schooler. Tons of books and toys make our house especially friendly for the 0-to-8-yr-old set. Our home is about 1150 sq ft total (about 105 sq m), not including the detached office.
The side yard off the foyer includes a lovely deck and in-progress landscaping (still mostly dirt right now). The detached office is about 120 sq ft, with tons of light, a comfy couch, and a nice large desk.
We have free wireless internet access for you, of course! Easy parking on the street.
Our beautiful neighborhood is filled with trees, and only a one-block walk down the hill to the Washington Park Arboretum and the Japanese Botanical Garden. Past the Arboretum is the Madison Valley neighborhood and Madison Park, including the wonderful Madison Playground and Beach on Lake Washington.
Up the hill will take you to two major bus routes through Seattle, and continued walking will take you to Volunteer Park, the shopping and dining of Capitol Hill, and the farmers' market in the summer. Our street has several lovely families, making this a very kid-friendly location. We're happy to introduce you! We can also connect you with our local babysitters.
The hills are steep, so this is not a physical disability-friendly neighborhood.
Driving, you have very easy access to hwy 520 to the north and I-5 via Madison to the south and west. About 25 minutes drive from the airport by car, or via Link Light rail with bus transfer at Westlake station.
Please treat our belongings gently, especially our children's belongings and our artwork! You may leave sheets and towels out, and we'll do the laundry after you leave. You may leave one load of dirty dishes loaded in the dishwasher, and we'll run and put them away after you leave. Be sure to always lock the doors when away from the house.
We're a family of 4 - Chris is a PhD physicist, Lindsey is a middle school science teacher, Charlotte is a 8-yr-old ballerina, and Knox is a 5-yr-old motorcycle-rider.
