The Trout House 2 bedroom cottage

Cabin - Entire home/apt · Maxwell Road, Charlemont, MA 01339, United States

The Space

If a quiet getaway is what you are looking for, we have it ! The Trout House is a self catering, new, energy efficient, two bedroom cottage, with locally harvested pine and ash floors and a beautiful wrap around deck. Charlemont has lots to offer, hiking, fishing, white water rafting with two different companies, Crabapples and Zoar. We even have zip lines at Berkshire East! The towns of Greenfield and Shelburne Falls have excellent spots to eat, listen to music, see a movie or just browse around. AND don't miss the stars on a clear night, they are outrageous!
Less than 2 miles off Route 2 "The Mohawk Trail", we are an easy day trip to North Adams, MA the home of Mass MOCA, a great contemporary art museum (and sometimes concert center) and hiking trails up Mt. Greylock., the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown is a real gem of a museum, known internationally for it's collection.
We enjoy the quiet, with no internet, cable or phone. . When you want to "connect" there are establishments on Rte 2 with Wi-Fi and telephone access. There is progress being made for internet access in our part of the county... But it's not here yet.
Happy to have you come and share our northwest corner of Massachusetts ! We're part of the "hill country" !

Interaction with Guests

We normally will greet our guests, give them the tour of the place and a reminder of the rules of the house, and then leave them to enjoy!

The Neighborhood

We are less than 2 miles from Route 2 but it feels like you are in a real getaway. No Cell service or Cable.. "off the media grid"... and so relaxing. the house is circled by tall pine trees and a mountain stream is just across the road. Lovely.

Getting around

There is not transit to our house, but there is bus service to Greenfield, MA. Best though to use your car. Basic groceries can be found at Avery's on Rte 2. Warfield Inn is open on weekends. Shelburne Falls is a lovely town to visit and enjoy as well.

  • My brothers and I spent a cold weekend doing a swift water rescue class on the Deerfield. Once we decided not to camp out, I took to AirBnB to find a place to stay. I'll admit to not reading the full description or any reviews. I saw location and availability and jumped on it.

That said, once we got to Mary Ann's place, we were all pleasantly surprised by how great it is. The Trout House was warm and comfortable. We were thrilled with the snacks left on the counter for us, and once we got over the shock of it(since I didn't read ahead of time) totally enjoyed this oasis away from technology.

We're all hoping that the Trout House is available next time we come up to play on the Deerfield.

  • The Trout House made our visit to western Mass wonderful. Mary Ann was understanding that we were late and was flexible. There were hors d'oeuvres, a full fridge, and the best apple cider donuts waiting for us inside the warm, cozy house. The house itself is situated down a quiet road with a lovely stream across the way. It was relatively convenient to Northampton and Greenfield and was a great escape! I would recommend the house to anyone. Thank you Mary Ann!

  • We had a great stay at Trout House over the Thanksgiving weekend. Our hosts were superb even to baking us a welcome cake and offering an additional night free because of the inclement weather forecast. All in all a wonderful place and area and will certainly return. Gerry and Molly Gibbs

  • My husband and I wanted a get away trip and this was perfect. We took a bus from Manhattan to Albany and rented a car from there. It was such a nice trip. It took two hours and the drive was beautiful. We stopped for ice cream, pastries and see the small towns. The house was perfect. Clean, close to hiking, zipline, fishing and rafting. It's a perfect little place.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the trout house! Mary Ann was amazing;she even has snacks out for us when we arrived. I also had left my toiletry kit at home and didn't realize until the first night we were there.. Fortunately there was soaps, shampoos, even a brand new toothbrush! Thanks for a wonderful vacation, the kids enjoyed every minute as well.

  • The Trout House is wonderful! Mary Ann met us at the cottage, and showed us around. She had stocked the place with nice things, like muffins, apple cider, and other snacks, and the kitchen has all the tools you need to cook meals. It was extremely clean, and nicely furnished. The cottage is in a really nice area too - trees on all sides. I would definitely recommend it.

  • We had a lovely stay at the trout house! In town for a wedding at the Warfield House and found this to be a welcome respite. No cell service or other communications but that made the stay all that more restful. Clean, comfortable, everything we needed. I would stay again and recommend to others.

  • We had a delightful two day stay at the Trout house, and highly recommend it. It is important to say that there is no cell phone or internet service. We went into Sherburne Falls for dinner and recommend the West End Pub for food, service, atmosphere and view. Also the Bridge of Flowers. We were there to visit Mass Moca, which we try to get to every year. Our host was extremely nice and helpful, and the house if well stocked with basics, a full kitchen
and an outdoors grill if you want to cook.

  • I've stayed at the Trout House twice now and can't wait to go back again. Mary Ann and Rob are the absolute perfect hosts. They met us, told us how to keep the place cool in the heatwave, put out a plate of snacks and then left us to enjoy our mid-week vacation. This house is beautiful and the perfect escape from city life. Enjoy it!

About
Hello, I'm Mary Ann. I am a native of New England, hailing originally from northern NH. Love the country, the nighttime skies, the quiet and gardening. If you visit our little home in Charlemont you'll find the tall pine trees, big deck facing the mountain stream, and walking trails nearby. In the winter, there is downhill and cross country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing in the community (Berkshire east).
