We are friendly artists and as such find that we have numerous artists that stay at the cottage from Brooklyn- to- France. I chalk it up to the beautiful town, numerous galleries, a thriving music hall and a writer / author lecture series during the summer.

The cottage is located in a vibrant neighborhood that is an eclectic mix of teachers, musicians, children, dogs and all around friendly people. It is possible you may wake up to birds chirping, hear the sounds of classical piano played in the afternoon, or possibly a game of whiffle ball or basketball in the lane. Or me taking my dog out for a game of fetch : )

Rockport is one of the best kept secrets in Massachusetts and New England. There is no need to hassle with traffic jams to Cape Cod, or take a ferry to the islands of Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard when you can easily experience the same island life without all the hassle in Rockport. Also, if you want to take a quick day trip to the city, Boston is an hour train ride away.

Hey, we are also friends of Bill W. All friends of Bill welcome : )

Want to know what I love about Rockport? Read my Top 10 List below.
10. Kayak around Cape Ann (the island of Rockport and Gloucester)
9. Take a 5 mile run from the cottage that will bring you by beaches, horse farms, and marshes.
8. Hike through Halibut Point State Park and see the shores of Maine and New Hampshire
7. Swim to the float at Front Beach then get lunch from Nate's
6. Have an ice cream "twist" at the Dairy Train
5. Take a sailing class at the Sandy Bay Yacht Club
4. Eat streudal on the porch overlooking the harbor at Helmut's located at the end of Bearskin Neck
3. Eat my famous chocolate cake (flourless) or blueberry scones
2. Swim at Little Parker quarry
1. Eat at the Lobster Pool while watching the sun set

If you like to find that special place to enjoy your vacation, Rockport is the place. Enjoy lobster from Roy Moore's and eat it on their porch watching the boats go in and out of the harbor. Take in a jazz, classical or contemporary concert at the Shalin Liu (the Tanglewood of the East Coast). Join a kayaking trip around the bay. Dive off the float found at one of our main beaches and swim back to shore and have a Twin Lights soda (a local brand) and have lunch at the diner across the street from the beach. Or just relax at on of our local parks, wander through our art galleries or just take in the beautiful views of the harbor at the end of Bearskin Neck.

Rockport is located next to Gloucester, home of the movie "Perfect Storm". Make sure to bring a laptop so you can watch the Perfect Storm when you visit, as I have a copy in the cottage for guests to enjoy during their visit. Or check out the movie "The Proposal" which was filmed in Rockport a few years ago starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. See if you can identify the locations where they filmed in Rockport.

If you want to get a sneak peak of the local happenings I would suggest you read this local blog to get the "local" news. It can be found at goodmorninggloucester (dot) (website hidden).

I grew up in Rockport and moved back here after living 14 years in the city. I am very knowledgeable of the many great places to visit, eat and basically all the secrets that a "townie" would know. This is a fun town to visit if you want to kayak, hang out at the beach, go see live concerts at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, take a walk along the Atlantic Path system which offers access to the very beautiful shoreline, or visit our local Buddhist Center for a retreat. Just ask, and I will do my best to point you to the many wonders of this fun seaside village.

The cottage is a short 9 minute walk away from the heart of Rockport, Bearskin Neck. Also, you are able to enjoy three of our local beaches within a 10 minute walk. The Rockport train station is a 9 minute walk away and it travels into Boston in 1 hour and 10 minutes.
- Front Beach, Back Beach and Old Garden Beach within a 10-15 minute walk
- Other beaches are a bike ride away or short trip by car
- Helmut Strudel is within walking distance, 10 minutes, and offers a great place to get coffee and strudel for breakfast and a wonderful porch to sit on. (I highly recommend sitting on the porch)
- The Shalin Liu Performance Center less than a 10 minute walk
- Art Galleries and Rockport Art Association can be enjoyed in less than 10 minutes by foot
- Kayak rentals are about a 10-15 minute walk from the cottage
- Deep Sea Fishing trips can be picked up at the pier which is less than a 10 minute walk
- Halibut Point State Park (about a 5 minute ride by car)
- Toad Hall Bookstore in just under a 10 minute walk away
- Attend a "Meet the Author" event at our local library with best selling authors visiting every summer which is a 10 minute walk from the cottage
- And, for a small town, we have numerous hoses of worship within walking distance or short drive (Buddhist Center, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Congregational and more)

If you are coming to Rockport by train out of North Station, I highly suggest taking a quick detour to the Whole Foods which is a few blocks from the train in Boston to pick up some supplies. There are numerous diners and restaurants in less than a 10 minute walk. Breakfast at The Red Skiff is very good, Top Dog or Roy Moore's is great for lunch, and My Place or the Lobster Pool (you have to drive to this amazing place) is ideal for dinner.

  • Noreen's cottage was perfect for our birthday weekend. Cosy, clean and close to town, we enjoyed venturing out onto beautiful Cape Ann and returning to relax and cook. It was the right amount of space for 2 people and couldn't have been nicer. Noreen was a gracious host and gave us great recommendations for local restaurants. She leaves a guidebook to all of the beaches in town that we found to be very helpful.

About
Rockport is a slice of paradise and so this is where I call home. I come from a family of artists, and our town is an ideal place to be creative, meet artists and to be inspired. Having grown up in this town, I have the insiders knowledge of where to go and what to do. I am a creative soul, love to bake, love to be a mom and think my dog is the sweetest. I have always loved visiting Paris, London and have lived in New York City and am pretty well travelled throughout the US.
