The Space

This charming downstairs flat with a patio and separate entrance includes a good sized bedroom, bath, living room/office, and kitchenette. The flat is the lower part of a newly remodeled Mediterranean home located in the beautiful, upscale Berkeley hills.

Walk through a grand villa-like entrance to your own patio which has a nice view of the bay and San Francisco lights. Open the French doors to your living room where you can watch movies with surround sound, entertain family and friends, take a snooze on the comfy sofa, or spread out your papers on the executive desk.

Perfect for a couple and could easily accommodate up to two extra people. There is a single day bed in the living room, with space for another single, or an inflatable queen bed can be brought in.

Up a few steps you'll find a handy kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. There are plenty of dishes and utensils to have breakfast, a snack, or your left-overs for lunch the next day.

The bathroom is beautifully tiled, has walnut wood cabinetry, a purple slate counter, and a nice shower with two shower heads.

Finally, the large bedroom is tastefully decorated, has plenty of drawers and a large closet to store your belongings, and a super comfortable queen sized bed. There is a second TV in the bedroom, and a cafe table and chairs for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

This fabulous location is near UC Berkeley, the Greek Theater, Lawrence Hall of Science, and Tilden State Park (fabulous hiking trails, amazing views, a lake to swim in, and several areas for children to play and explore.) In addition we are minutes from many Berkeley restaurants and boutique shopping (gourmet ghetto and Solano Ave.) We are a short drive to San Francisco, Marin County, Napa Valley, and all that the the Bay Area has to offer.

Our family, (children sometimes present) lives upstairs, and we are available to answer your questions about the area or help you find what you need to fully enjoy your stay in Berkeley.

  • Our stay at Cara's was wonderful. The apartment was extremely comfortable and beautifully designed and furnished. Cara has thought of everything from Peets coffee to fresh fruit to bath products. She was also flexible with our changing plans and cast of characters. We had a car but there is a bus route right outside. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

  • Cara has great taste! The place was well decorated, comfortable, and it felt private. She was attentive and available when we had questions. She also had some children's toys which was very helpful since we were on a long trip from Boston and having toys available allowed us to unwind as soon as we arrived.

  • Cara's place is 6 star plus. Everything about it was perfect. I have stayed at many places on AIRBNB and Cara's is the best. The view and location are amazing. I loved the shower! The apartment is so well apointed that you could not ask for more. Cara was the perfect host and even drove me around to show me the bus and walking route that would take me to class I was taking.

  • Cara is a very generous host. A stocked fridge and fruit bowl make you feel immediately welcome and at home. The flat is very clean, spacious and well equipped. It also has a nice patio to relax and enjoy views of the city. The neighbourhood is lovely to stroll around and the pleasant walk downhill to downtown area takes about 20-30mins. If you don't feel like the uphill walk back to the flat the number 65 bus is a great service, which drops you off not far from the flat. We really loved our Berkeley experience and highly recommend Cara's flat as a great place to stay.

  • Cara was very responsive and helpful. She was easy to communicate with prior, during, and after our visit. She provided all the conveniences of staying in a private home, yet we were given our privacy. She was also flexible, when we had our children join us for part of the stay. The apartment was sunny and spacious, and the bed and furnishings were very comfortable. We especially enjoyed having access to a sunny patio space. The neighborhood was upscale, sunny, and quiet for an urban setting. We definitely recommend this listing, and hope to visit again. Barb and Dave Ebenstein

  • We had a really nice time in Berkeley! The house is exactly as described. It is perfectly clean, the bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is all new and you can enjoy a great view of SF from the balcony! Cara was very friendly and everything went very smoothly.

  • As many other reviewers have noted, Cara's place is lovely and she goes out of her way to accommodate visitors. My boyfriend, dog and I stayed at Cara's for over a month, and she supplied us with many extra cooking items and other useful things for the longer stay. There is a very convenient bus to downtown and UC Berkeley (as well as up the hill to Lawrence Berkeley labs and MSRI).

There are a couple of things to note: the neighborhood can get quite dark at night, so if you have a dog to walk, a flashlight is a good idea. Also, as some have noted, there is occasionally noise from upstairs; however, it is only during day hours and comparable to other first-floor apartments I've experienced.

Overall, it is absolutely easy to recommend Cara's place to anyone - you will be comfortable and enjoy your stay!
