When we were planning to visit Marrakech, we were doubting many riads and apartments, inside or outside of the Medina... well, we must say: there is a lot of choice in Marrakech... Just 3 days before departure we decided to book Nadiya's apartment. Looking back that fuss wasn't necessary: the place was absolutely worth it!!
For a good price (definitely competing with those of the riads within the medina) we got a spacious, luxurious, two storey apartment all for ourselves (we were with us 2 but it could hold up to 4 persons): cosy, tranquile and with a pleasant vibe, also well equipped and it was just like on the pictures (what you see is what you get).
There was also a hatch to the roof on which we sat back and relaxed in the sun without being overlooked. From there one has a stunning view towards the Atlas mountains.
The place is well located in a secured and classy residential area of 4 streets surrounding a swimming pool and a mosque, direcly opposite of the Medina at the Route de Remparts. Within less than 10 minutes by foot you can enter the Medina at the Bab Debbagh-gate .....or just stop a taxi at the Route de Remparts for 20 Dh and go anywhere further.
We stayed in Nadiya’s apartment for 6 days before travelling on to Ouarzazate. Marrakech is a vibrant city and for tourists not the most easygoing place, but the apartment really felt like our home after a bustling day on the streets. The small supermarket-alike shops directly downstairs (open till late) were also quite convenient for our daily needs.
Doing business with Nadiya was clear and easy. First, during the booking process, she responded quickly to some questions we had. Then, on the night we arrived, she had come over all the way from her residence Rabat and we had phone contact at the airport immediately after our arrival. She was waiting for us in front of the house to show us around and hand us over the keys. After she left we had this whole space for ourselves!
And also she was available by phone when we were in need...one night we didn't understand how the heater worked during the somewhat colder February nights, and it was quickly solved from a distance (with help of a local guy she knew from one of the stores downstairs).
The only small disadvantage is that there's no wi-fi. We solved that because we had bought two 3G simcards of Maroc Telecom for 20 DH each....and you get free 3G for 3 days on each one, so we had 6 days of free internet altogether, just an idea.
All in all, if you're doubting just like we did at first: don't hesitate to book this apartment, you'll enjoy. Et merci Nadiya!
I stayed in Nadiya's apartment for 4 weeks in January 2014.
The apartment is situated in a delightful residential complex opposite the old city. After a day exploring the noisy crowded dusty Medina is was heaven to come back to the quiet complex and relax downstairs in one of the cafes. Within the complex is a mosque surrounded with beautiful manicured gardens - giving the whole place a serene atmosphere.
The apartment is superb. Two levels of pure Moroccan luxury.
The photos tell it all. My neighbours were very quiet, so the overall experience of staying here was very relaxing.
Downstairs there are 3 small grocery shops, a travel agent and three cafes. It was lovely to sit in the wicker lounges and sip on a freshly brewed coffee before heading off exploring this crazy city - then to come back tired and dusty and have a freshly squeezed orange juice and mint tea before deciding what to do for dinner.
Nadiya was there to greet me when I arrived and was easily contactable via email if needed. The only negative is that there is no Internet connection in the apartment - but I overcame that easily with a very inexpensive modem plug from one of the Internet providers. There are plenty of ATMs and phone people etc in the new city Gueliz, which is a 30 minute walk or cheap taxi ride from the the apartment.
I had a great stay here and would recommend the apartment.

I spent eleven delightful days in this fantastic town – a unique experience! On arrival I was welcomed by my hostess Nadiya and her husband who showed me around the house. She was extremely friendly and helpful and gave me some useful general information and advice. As they live in Rabat this was the only time I saw her. I found the house quite charming, spacious and comfortable and very quiet at night. It’s situated in a very well-kept affluent residential area outside the City Wall with lots of greenery; it has a check point entrance (where I was asked who I was on my first day!) and the area is surrounded by a high wall. Just outside the house there are two groceries, a pharmacy and a nice out-door café which also makes good pizzas and some other take-away food. It’s very peaceful, no traffic noise, only the (website hidden)ing of birds and the prayer calls from the Mosque opposite (which woke me up every morning at 4.30).
The big disadvantage however is the distant location from the town centre. To get inside the City Wall you have to walk along a road with heavy traffic and try crossing without being run over by the ubiquitous scooters. Once inside the Wall you can take a bus (nr 2) downtown to the centre; it’s cheap but they only run every 15 min. Don’t be fooled by the map! If you want to walk the whole way to the Central Square Jemaa el-Fna it takes at least 25–30 min provided you don’t get lost in the maze of narrow alley-ways (which happened to me many times during the first days). Last bus to get home in the evening (email hidden) so after that it means taking a taxi as it is not very salubrious to walk through the Medina late at night. Taxi costs normally 50 dh (5 euros) but in the evening I have been asked to pay 70, so check the price with driver beforehand.
All being said, Nadiya’s place is absolutely marvellous if you have a car or if you are prepared to spend quite a bit of money on taxis.
Propriétaire sympathique ! Logement très correct ! Nous y retournerons !
