About This Listing
If you enjoy a neighborhood feel and want a casual, comfy home with a yard, this is the place.
As of Thanksgiving 2014 I am limiting availability, honoring reservations already made, since my mother needs to come live with me.
Casual, comfortable 1917 house with renovated kitchen and pleasant, fenced backyard. The master bedroom (corner windows facing backyard) has a dressing room to stage luggage. The central bedroom has a walk-in closet and a regular size bed. The futon in the living room can be used to sleep two, with bedding conveniently stored in drawers underneath. A pocket door can close off the living room. I call the style shabby chic.
The bungalow updates this year include new lighting, ceiling fans, and insulation for summer and winter comfort.
There's an original fold down table in the large kitchen, the pantry is stocked with coffee and appliances. The dining room table may be moved out to the center of the room, and there's another round table (folding) in the entry closet. If you're traveling with small children, I can bring up a high chair and playpen from the basement.
The neighborhood is lovely for strolling, under magnolias and sycamore, admiring historic homes large and small. You can walk to SJSU and downtown events & entertainment: opera, Sharks games, etc. There's also downtown parking. Local bistro --The Garage -- and The House of Bagels are two blocks away. If you're a shopper, you'll want to drive over to Santana Row, about 10 minutes away. Early June the neighborhood hosts artists' open studios. Fourth of July we have "small town" parade and picnic and concert in Williams Park.
My cat, Mickey, stays here when I travel. If you are allergic to cats, this would not be the place for you. Mickey is independent and amicable, and expects you to feed him and let him come and go at will.
Washer/dryer and wireless. Driveway parks 3 cars w/o permits. There's a grill on the patio for entertaining outdoors. Projector, screen, speakers for movies or music off your laptop or phone, but no TV.
Bus and light rail nearby. The freeway access is Hwy 280 at 11th Street, San Jose.
The bungalow is yours for the duration of your stay. I may arrange (by text or email) an afternoon to come by and water during summer seasons.
My calendar is limited this year because my aging mother is living with me.
Interaction with Guests
I email and you can text me questions. I will only be present by arrangement if the yard needs water.
Naglee Park is an historic district near San Jose State University. It has a small town feel and is a wonderful area for walking.
Don't smoke indoors. No pets because Mickey is territorial.
Clean up after yourself. Don't take "souvenirs."
Be nice to the neighbors.
Quiet neighborhood, especially at night. There's a no noise ordinance after 10 pm.
Text or call me if there's a problem or question.
Very nice bungalow. Laura was a perfect host. She sent a detailed information about the house and neighborhood and left some snacks and food for us. House was clean, spacious and comfy. There was everything needed for cooking and laundry. Cat was nice to us also.
The reservation was canceled 56 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Laura was a lovely host and her home is spacious and comfortable. My family and had a wonderful time and look forward to staying again
Laura is a wonderful host. She gave us such a warm welcome, which was so appreciated after our long flight. Her house is very cozy and it felt like home. The location is very convenient, and is walking distance to down town. Mickey was nice to have around with his special greetings, when we arrived home, and in the morning when we awoke. When we return to CA I hope we can stay at Laura's house again. Thanks again Laura, look forward to seeing you next time! Diane
My family and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Laura's bungalow in San Jose. Laura's home is cozy and neat with all the amenities one needs for a comfortable stay.
We enjoyed spending time during the day in Laura's lovely sunny backyard garden, and evenings talking and hanging out in her beautifully decorated living room. The beds in both bedrooms are super comfortable (we slept like babies despite our initial jetlag), and there was plenty of closet and drawer space for unpacking all our things.
We loved the neighboorhood and enjoyed getting to know some of the friendly neighbors. Mickey the cat was an added plus. Such an easy-going, no-fuss sweetheart!
Laura's hospitality was incredible. She had left us a bottle of excellent California wine as a welcome gift upon our arrival, and there was a great assortment of food in the fridge and cupboards, which we were welcome to help ourselves to.
Communicating with Laura was easy, friendly and always quick. I had tons of question before our trip from Germany, as well as during our stay in San Jose, all of which Laura responded to within 24 hours.
The location was perfect with easy access to downtown and the highway for getting around San Jose and heading out on day tours and adventures on the coast and in San Francisco.
All in all we couldn't have asked for better accomodations. We very much look forward to the possibility of staying at Laura's during our next visit to the Bay Area.
Thanks again to you Laura for helping make our 10-day stay in San Jose a comfortable, homey and affordable one!
What a wonderful stay!! I love your house, it reminded me of my grandparent's house when I was younger with the wood floors, glass door knobs and wonderful wall detail. I would RECOMMEND WITHOUT RESERVATION to anyone thinking of staying at Laura's bungalow. It was in a wonderful neighborhood and is so family orientated. Also, my husband has Chronic PTSD and this was a dream come true for him to be able to travel to a large city with the family. A definite thumbs up for anyone having a companion that has come back from military duty w/PTSD. I'm glad Mickey is at home . . . I had to make sure the twins didn't try to smuggle him back up to Oregon!! P.S. My daughter wants to know if she can move back to San Jose and live in your house . . . I think she might be looking at San Jose University in the future. Thanks for everything!!!
About the Host, Laura
I am a busy educator, helping struggling readers and also giving professional development for teachers with the SJ Area Writing Project at SJSU nearby. I like to get away for road trips to Ashland and down the coast and see my daughters and mother. I enjoy gardening with drought tolerant, low maintenance plants.
Having airnbnb guests helps me continue to renovate my bungalow. This year it's sporting attic insulation and ceiling fans for comfort.
I really miss my cat, Mickey, while I'm away, however, he's people friendly and I like that my airbnb guests take such good care of him.
