About this listing
Bright and airy private room with balcony, on second floor of charming older home.
As soon as you walk into this room, you feel at home. Comfy queen bed with 100% cotton sheets and comforter, private balcony w/ two chaise lounges & a bistro set for two. Large walk in closet is a nice bonus for clothes and luggage storage, still with plenty of shelf space left for the treasures you'll collect during your adventure on Maui. Beach & Bath towels are provided along with Beach chairs, cooler, sunscreen, shampoo and other misc. items.
While the balcony does not have an ocean view, the trees surrounding the home make you feel like your in the middle of your own oasis, and the sunset, if your not on the beach can be just as relaxing sitting on the balcony.
Please note the bathroom is shared with one other room, if needed there is a 1/2 bath on the first floor and an outdoor shower on the back deck. Yes, it has a light, hot water, shampoo etc.
Our neighborhood is quite, and relaxed, as it should be living on Maui. No rush, no stress.
Our home is a large, charming older fixer upper, within walking distance to everything in Kihei. shopping, at Kalama Center, Kukui Mall, library,
Starbucks, internet cafe, roller skating at Kalama park, tennis courts also at Kalama park, and all along So. Kihei Road, gorgeous beaches...take your pick. Surfing, kayaks, canoe paddling and Stand up paddle boards rentals across from Cove Park beach/Kalama Park. Foodland is also within walking distance, for grocery shopping.
If you choose not to rent a car, there is a public bus system it is a $1.00 per ride. However, when you first arrive it's a hassle to catch the bus, you will have to transfer several times, and the bus stops running between 8-10pm depending on the route. I can arrange a Taxi pick up for you. The fare is $45 one way, and as the owners of the cab company are friends this is a great deal offered to my guests. The ride is typically 30-40 minutes depending of time of day and traffic. If your interested in using 'beach cruisers' bicycles, mopeds, or want to book tours, Boss Frogs is just down the street, they rent all kinds of amenities.
CAR RENTAL Options you can book on the internet (local small businesses that are affordable):
1. Kihei Rent A Car
(website hidden)-Beetle, eco friendly car rental alternative
3. Franks Friendly Cars
4. Aloha Rent A Car
EATS: Cost of food is crazy expensive here at the grocery stores, however there are many great little locally owned eateries that offer home cooked meals at very reasonable prices. A list of them will be provided in your room. There is also a farmers market in our neighborhood, which is great for picking up fresh fruits/Banana bread for breakfast.
Laundry: Lipoa Street Laundromat is only about 3-5 minute drive away...if (email hidden)ey offer coined washer/dryer, or you can drop your dirty linens and they will wash/fold them for you for a reasonable fee, and you can pick them up after a day of sightseeing. My personal washer/dryer is not available for use.
The State of Hawaii requires all persons running BnB or transient accommodations to collect a 13.42% tax. As I cannot add it on as a separate charge with airbnb, it is collected when you arrive. You may pay with cash, or check.
Please note, there is no kitchen use, too many unsavory experiences with guests not washing their dishes or cleaning the stove after cooking
. There are many places to eat within walking distance or a short drive. I've filled the 'Welcome Book' with menus from my favorites. Most dining establishments have a 50% off 'Happy Hour' with includes items from their menu...usually between the hours of 3-6.
Interaction with Guests
Typically I'm not around too much, so my interaction with guests is minimal. This is why I put together a 'Welcome Book' to help you get familiar with our home and neighborhood. If I am home I'm busy cleaning, or working at my desk...and during those moments am always happy to meet my guests and answer questions or give advice if asked.
The location is excellent, walking distance to everything in Kihei from Starbucks to the beach...personally I love to get up early and take a power walk through Kalama park, sunsets are equally stunning there especially during whale season.
The Maui Bus has stops all up and down South Kihei Road, and is a good way to get around if you decide not to rent a car. Except when coming to/from airport. I suggest getting a taxi for that.
Mopeds & beach cruiser bicycles are also available for rent at 'Boss Frogs' on South Kihei Road. Only a 5 minute walk from my home.
Other Things to Note
The State of Hawaii requires all persons running BnB or transient accommodations to collect a 13.42
% tax. As I cannot add it on as a separate charge with airbnb, it is collected when you arrive.
TURN OFF LIGHTS AND CEILING FANS. As Hawaii still burns primarily fossil fuels to generate electricity our average monthly bill cost what some pay in rent back home. So please, please take care to unplug appliances, and turn off lights & fans when you leave.
No Drugs, No Smoking, No Drama
Clean up after yourself in all areas of the house, specifically the bathroom: tote in your bathroom items needed in tote bag provided and then when you exit the bathroom take your toiletries/clothes with you back to your room. This helps to eliminate any issues with another guest.
We no longer have a cat, however this does not seem to deter his friends from stopping by for the occasional visit. We love animals, but ask that you do not allow any four legged visitors in your room.
Thank you for your cooperation!
About the Host, Kym
I grew up on Oahu, and moved to Maui in 1986. Over the years my family has moved here as well and currently, we all reside in Kihei and live within a ten minute driving radius of each other. My sister and mom often come over for early morning coffee. While I am not a coffee drinker, I do love the smell of it in the morning...:)
All genre's of music are of interest to me, so when I am home Pandora is the go to 'station'.
I am a very busy working single mom, typically home later in the afternoon/evening, and in bed by 10:00pm. Independent Travelers, or those that do not require too much attention are best in my home. In my free time I love hiking, movies, writing, surfing (long board), family time, or just taking a mid day nap can be a real treat...lol!
This is where I put down five 'Things' I can't live without:
-Medi -Spa Maui - Gerusa's amazing facials
-Salad Bar at Hawaiian Moons Health Food Store
-Matinee's at Maui Mall...great place to escape the heat
-Mr. Babbs, no one makes me laugh harder...:)
-Family...they are my heart...xo
Actually I can live without any 'thing'...its the experiences and people in my life that make it extraordinary.
So if you are a independent type of traveler whom values their privacy and does not need or want a lot of attention from myself, and is looking for a clean, comfortable private room to crash in after a wonderful day of exploring Maui, my home is a great fit. Also for those who are on a budget and do not want to rent a vehicle, it is a good fit, as your within a 10-20 minute walking distance of everything from dining, shopping, nightlife, parks, tennis/basketball courts, library, beaches, grocery store, coffee shops, surf school, bike & moped rentals and bus stops.
