BASICS: Hello! This is a half-ground-level room, with access to a small kitchen-ish/sink space, and a shower and laundry (in three different rooms with a hallway). We've been working on it for a while and now call it the "Sunflower Room." It’s well located, very near a 24-hour cafe and local hangout, and about a hundred feet from Nashville’s “Rock Block” on Church Street-- filled with bars, music venues, restaurants and shops. The northern edge of Vanderbilt University is 1 1/4 blocks away.
MORE INFO: It's still not entirely pretty-- it's in a basement space which we've been hoping to renovate more for about 3 years, and started to improve about a year ago. It's currently still a bit of a mess, but it'(email hidden)able mess! It is also very well-located and affordable, and we've just added retro furniture, japanese screen and other comforts to this room, to make it a bit cosy.
FOR FOOTBALL SEASON -- we're within a 15 minute walk to Vandy stadium and have parking! This is also a great jumping pad if you're coming to look for a permanent apartment in Nashville.
If you're looking for a low-cost place to sleep/crash in Nashville, right inside the West End/Midtown, next to downtown, within 1 1/2 blocks to various cafes, restaurants, music venues and bars as well as Vandy, and 2 (long city) blocks of Centennial Park, and plenty of public transit-- this may be for you.
If you're on a budget, this may be what you're looking for. If you need nice & clean & modern & finished-- understand, maybe this isn't it. (We'll sweep & mop & vacuum & steam clean, but we've taken half a wall down in one place and chiseled through masonry here and there, so there's a bit of dust which is hard to control). What we have is somewhat like a loft space, with lots of exposed piping and other features which we've started to polish and paint. We've left some of the old telephone interchange wire brass, and part of a mural discovered when removing part of a wall. We're accumulating bricks to put over a wall. Retro chic is the idea.
AMENITIES ETC. The bedroom is *large* -- 20' x 22' or so-- so you could sleep four to six in there if you need to (we can usually find basic bedding for four). There are stairs to get in; there is internet; there is a largish single/double bed, roll-away style, but if you want to sleep more than four you'll have to bring sleeping bags or such.
There is access to a microwave and refrigerator in a small shared office space, as well as very basic kitchenware. There's a (shared) basic bathroom and shower, as well as a commercial washer and dryer, iron and ironing board, and a garment steamer. The shower was fairly recently renovated with stone masonry; the little bathroom, is not so hot at the moment :( but I'll make sure it's been cleaned.
We also have a USB charging station with standard cables in the little office, in case you forget either while travelling, and there is almost always basic cereal and milk available in the morning “for breakfast,” so you don’t have to go out to get something in your stomach!
There is a door between the main/bedroom and the hallway.
Please feel free to ask about anything else.
ADMIN/ERRATA: I'm glad to help with questions as I can, especially over email or text messages, but am often in and out or out of town, and probably won't be able to be a very active host. Apologies-- a bottom line is that nothing else on Airbnb within 5 miles of downtown is under $60/night, and we’re trying to keep the price (website hidden): LAST-MINUTE REQUESTS: A note -- We like to help people out, but we get a lot of last-minute requests from people who've just created an AirBNB account, don't link to (website hidden) or have "reviews" to vouch for them, and/or who violate AirBNB's rules. If you've just created an AirBNB account, we're unlikely to be able to accommodate you if you need something tonight or tomorrow, *especially* if you don’t have a complete profile. With more notice, we can discuss.
CHECK-IN&OUT: is someone flexible but normally check-in is between 2:15PM and 5:30PM and check-out before 11:30AM. Please message in advance of booking for other arrangements if you need-- we are generally able to be very accommodating but have to check schedules.
MINIMUM STAY is THREE NIGHTS for single-person (1) guests and TWO NIGHTS for two (2) or more guests in the same room.
This is not a long-term, rental space nor a tenancy-- hotelier’s rules apply. No stays above 28 days. Do not expect to stay if you haven't reserved/paid, no credit will be extended.
Read the listing, it is exactly how Ken has listed it as. It was a great place to crash. If just looking for a cheap bed to sleep in along with a bathroom/shower, then this is the place. Ken was a really welcoming host and took care of all my concerns. Definitely will rent again in the future if the need arises!
Simple crash pad. Everything you need for a fair price. Quiet, and great Nashville location. Oh, and Ken is cool too! Thanks.
This place was perfect for our trip. The condition of the basement room is just as described. The bathroom and shower were cleaned during our stay. Kenneth is a great host who maintained communication leading up to and throughout the stay. A friend traveled with me and Ken provided the roll-away bed and sheets so we each had a bed. We were comfortable throughout the stay and had no worries leaving our belongings in the room. The area surrounding the house is great - we saw a very good show at Exit/In and spent time at Coco Cafe. Getting downtown on the bus was easy. This accommodation may not be for just anyone, but I would stay here again.
This place was exactly what I needed: a cheap place to sleep and shower not too far from downtown. Ken was very flexible for check-in and check-out. Much appreciated. I would go there again if I ever go back to Nashville!!
I went to college in Nashville and very familiar with the area. I was looking for a place to crash on a BUDGET while coming back to town to meet up with some college friends and Kenneth's place was perfect. Nothing special but it was a clean place to lay my head at night in a great location (3 min walk from Vanderbilt and close to Broadway/downtown). Kenneth was extremely helpful in arranging an airport pick up and had a lovely spiel about nashville. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to stay in Nashville on a budget and will stay here again in the future.
Our stay at the 'Sunflower' room was excellent, thanks especially to Kenneth. He was accommodating with our check-in time, gave us whatever we needed to stay there including extra bedding, some snacks, and a few hints on good places to go in the area. Speaking of the area, the location is perfect if you're interested in checking out some great alternative locations in Nashville. The coffee shop that's across the street, CoCo Cafe, is a great place to go at anytime of the day (literally, it's open 24 hours/day). Also, definitely check out the Parthenon in the park nearby. As for music, the legendary Exit/In, and its scuzzy dive-bar brother The End, is less than a block away. If you're looking for somewhere cheap to stay in Nashville, this is absolutely your best choice.
Ken was a great host and we enjoyed staying in his place.
The description was exactly as described, don't expect the Taj Mahal! It was in a great location, close to awesome music venues, restaurants bars - with broadway and downtown a short 5 minute drive/8 min bus (leaves from west ave and 23rd st)/35 min walk away.
Very warm in winter and quite spacious. We would stay here again if we returned to Nashville!
It is what it is. The room was comfortable and suited my needs. It's located in a great part of the West End and you can walk to numerous bars, restaurants, and stores.
Ken was an excellent host! He always checked up with us and made sure we had what we needed and felt at home. Accommodations were pretty basic, which is what we were expecting, but we had a great time!
Ken was a really nice host and I appreciated his hospitality. He was very accommodating for check-in and I had no problems. Ken was nice enough to offer me the bigger "Rose Room" since he had another guest staying in the Sunflower. I had a rotation at Vanderbilt for 3 weeks and his basement apartment was conveniently close to campus. Ken has some extensive renovations going on at this place, but for the price and convenience, this was a pretty good AirBnB experience!
