About this listing
This unique lovely Dome feels like being inside a giant tree. It was built in 1970 by a civil rights attorney named Sherwin Shayne, along with some friends over a few years time. I believe the front doors were from an old church in San Francisco.
Conveniently located halfway between Carmel & Big Sur! Enjoy a spectacular drive along the breathtaking Hwy 1 to a serene and lovely forest road to arrive at this unique and "glamour-rustic" dome home (upper level) with views of the redwoods from all around the house. You'll feel like you're living inside a giant tree! We get plenty of indirect sun most of the year even though we're in the forest. Close to gorgeous local hiking, shopping and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, special events all year. Of course you also may just want to relax and feel your connection to nature. This property is owned by local artist Sofanya where you might find her working in her studio or gallery. The dome house is the jewel on this property. A luscious bedroom loft with sunken tub, forest views, 2 bathrooms, futon in living room for 2 more and a little nook with a single bed. You might want to bring a laptop with movies as we don't have tv here. We do have some dvd's available too. The house is open so it's especially perfect for a couple. It has a luxurious ambience with several super comfy areas to sit and relax or read. The Dome is primarily heated by wood stove and in winter it can be a bit chilly so bring layers. There's also a small electric heater to help take the chill out while making a fire. Sofanya enjoys providing a special area stocked with paints and journals for guests to paint and enjoy expressing. Enjoy a nap or read in the hammock while listening to the stream. Meditate in the garden while reading a book.....while visiting this "Jewel in the Forest".
Also check out our lovely
"Calla Lilly Cottage"....A charming 1 bedroom cottage with lovely sitting garden surrounded by redwoods near a stream.
The "Foxglove" a little dwelling up in the forest...cozy for 1 or 2 people.
Please park in the driveway nearest to the Dome House. Go upstairs to the Dome and make yourselves at home. Feel free to enjoy the area out front where you can lay in a hammock or sit and have breakfast or dinner at a lovely table in the magical forest. There's also the area of Carabella's Theatre where you are welcome to relax. Feel free to use the guitar in the house or bring your own. We can't have loud music and ask for quiet after 10PM but acoustic is welcome! Occasionally we will hold a house concert or art event here. Let us know if that is a problem for you. I will contact you with key info! It's best not to walk on the road so either stay on property to walk or drive to a nearby hiking area or beach.

Magical forest drive to Jewel in the Forest....only 2 miles from Coast Hwy 1....a spectacular drive!
I LOVE the magical forest drive off Hwy 1 to my house....I love the beautiful trees....the stream....the smells and sounds. I have some great neighbors too though we don't see each other often. There is a very important document from the MCVRA (Monterey Cty Vacation Rentals Alliance) which I've been required to share with you and I thank you in advance for taking the time to read it carefully.
