The Space

Located Just 15 miles south of beautiful Santa Barbara, nestled in a quiet neighborhood and surrounded by flowering gardens, and ranches is the coastal town of Carpinteria.
The private guest room and bath is conveniently located on one side of this relaxing, peaceful home. The guest room offers a very cozy queen-size bed, down comforter and pillows for a good nights sleep. The private, full bath is attached to the room and has a very large shower, fresh towels, hair dryer, complimentary: soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste.
There is access to a gourmet kitchen for preparing meals there is complimentary coffee and tea, laundry, dinning room, living room with a flat screen TV/ HD DVD player. Free WiFi though out the house and tranquil sun-room with views of the garden and the Los Padres National Forest as a backdrop. There is also several outdoor spaces to enjoy a book in the shade on the patio, take in the sun or relax in the hot tub. There is easy, accessible street parking available right in front of the house. I also share my home with a well behaved, adorable dog Lucky who will not invade your space.

I have called Carpinteria and Santa Barbara my home for my whole life. I have hosted International students from Holland, Japan and Switzerland. I have a Wealth of Knowledge which I would love to share with you and help make your trip a wonderful experience.

I will pick up or drop off at the Carpinteria Amtrak Train Station no charge. There are bikes, beach chairs, boogie boards, beach towels, and a cooler for you to use during your stay.

The house is located 1 mile from the Carpinteria State Beach and charming downtown Carpinteria with many shops, cafes, ice-creamery, local brewery, wine bar, and great little places to eat. There is also a shuttle which picks up in the neighborhood and will take you all the way to the beach. Carpinteria has little gems like the Bluffs Nature Preserve, and the Salt Marsh wetlands both are magical places to take and evening stroll.
Easy accesses north to Santa Barbara, Summerland, Santa Ynez and Montecito and south to Ojai.

  • We didn't want to leave... We loved not only Carpinteria (what a wonderful place to spend some time) but Margaret's beautiful home, her wonderful hospitality, and all the thoughtful amenities and touches (like endless avocados!!). :)

The room and ensuite bathroom were spacious and super clean. It was one of the nicest beds we've ever slept in, and the room, as well as neighbourhood were incredibly quiet (except for cheeky birds!). We had access to the kitchen, laundry, our own private patio, and her sunroom. She welcomed us into her home, quite simply. Margaret has thought of everything, from lovely toiletries in the bathroom to lending out bikes, boogie boards, beach chairs and towels for the fantastic beach. She made my Swedish husband's dream come true by taking us to a friend's land to pick oranges, grapefruits and lemons straight from the tree. We enjoyed the "fruits" of our labour the next two mornings in the form of the best fresh-squeezed oj we've ever had!! It was big deal for him - thank you Margaret.

She has a sweet dog named Lucky, and if you are "lucky" you'll catch a glimpse of her two tortoises in the yard! Her yard is a lovely oasis, full of gorgeous flowers, fruit trees, and cacti galore. We were made to feel so welcome, and enjoyed our time there so much we are already planning to come back sometime soon and make it our base for more exploring. Thanks Margaret!

  • Margaret made this seem like "your home away from home". The bedroom and bathroom are serene and comfortable. Hospitality is top notch. When I did not have a ride to a wedding rehearsal dinner Margaret got me there. She also is very knowledgeable about the Carpinteria and surrounding area. I would love to book her home again! • Margaret's house was immaculate, the bed was very comfortable, the turtles were cute, and the kitchen was fully equipped and very user-friendly! We loved our stay and would recommend it's welcoming set-up to anyone wanting a homey, warm, comfortable stay.
Margaret was very helpful, friendly and thoughtful. Great spot!

  • My husband and I had a terrific stay in Carpinteria. Margaret is a lovely person and a VERY generous hostess. It was such a pleasure to stay in her house and enjoy the garden (with lemon tree & fruit trees), hot tub, and large shower, and she made us feel right at home. We were surprised when she invited us to eat anything in the frig and we loved all the fresh fruit and freshly-made guacamole she supplied for us. We also appreciated her lending beach chairs, etc. A perfect Airbnb experience! Thanks so much, Margaret.

  • This was our second time staying with Margaret and it was just as nice as the first. Her home is very comfortable, clean and is in a great neighborhood. She is often generous with advice and in sharing her home freely. We'll definitely stay here again when we return to Carpinteria for a getaway.

  • We stayed with Margaret for our mini honeymoon get away. We were on a budget being young newly weds and this was just what we needed! We stayed April 5-9, 2014. Her home is warm, welcoming and very tidy. I loved her backyard---she's really into gardening as I am. Humming birds galore! My husband and I really appreciated the bathroom attached to the guest room we stayed in. We also really appreciated the pantry and fridge being stocked with optimal breakfast items. That really saved us some time in the mornings to enjoy each others' company in pjs until we were ready to seize the day!
Some of the memorable moments we had in Carpinteria/SB were at: The Bluff 2 minutes away by car to see the sunrise, Padaro Beach Grill outdoor eating area along the water (great fish tacos & fish & chips), the beaches were quite emptier than we are used to living here in San Fernando Valley, LA area and the food was fabulous! We went to Santa Barbra for shopping, food (Holdren's--Scallops Appetizer, Tuna Ahi & Mahi) and sunset. The weather was a cool 70-75 degrees. This was a treat for us coming from 80-90 degree weather.
Thank you Margaret for giving us privacy, a clean home, a stocked fridge, goo be gone for the tar from the beach and the chille rellanos. You are such a sweet woman! May God Bless you.

  • We were in Southern California for a 4 day cruise out of Long Beach. We wanted more relax time before heading home to Utah so we booked at Margaret's place in Carpinteria. What an amazing place and lady. We had the best and most relaxing time. The room and bath were roomy and comfortable and right next to the laundry which we used and the well-appointed kitchen. Also next to the patio and Jacuzzi.
Margaret was an absolutely wonderful hostess who made us feel at home in her house and shared maps and information with us readily so that we could make the most of our stay. She was very knowledgeable about the town and area having lived there for years. She fired up the hot tub for us each evening. Her dog, Lucky was so very well behaved and took to us right off but was never in our way. The neighborhood and house were charming and quiet. Margaret let us use her bikes to tour the town and ride to the bluffs overlooking the seals and their pups. Of the whole vacation, our stay with Margaret in Carpinteria was the best part! Margaret, knowing that we love citrus fruit, picked from her and her neighbor's tree and gave to us an entire box of lemons, oranges and grapefruit we we are still enjoying! We would DEFINITELY stay here again.

  • Margaret made us feel at home from the moment we got in touch with her! She's so kind and helpful! Her home is clean, warm, and welcoming. The walk along the beach with her and her dog Lucky was a special treat:-) I would highly recommend anyone staying in the area to stay with Margaret. I

  • We had a wonderful three days at Margaret's. Everything was even better than we'd imagined- very comfortable and private bedroom and bath with lovely down pillows and comforter, lovely sunroom, fabulous well stocked kitchen, which Margaret invited us to use fully., trusting us with full access to everything, and then....the bikes, which we used happily to get into town, and the hot tub! To top this all off, Margaret couldn't have been nicer. She is a warm , generous, and most helpful host. We were sad to leave, but she supplied us with a bushel of fresh citrus fruits for the rest of our journey up the coast. And we will be back, hopefully next year!
