Updated farmhouse built in 1860 located 8mi. from Jay Peak, in the heart of the village of Montgomery Center. There’s a bar/ restaurant & supermarket across the street but only the Trout River & forest out back. Easy access to skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and a quick walk to a great swimming hole. One of a few places locally with access to fast internet (Gigabit). The house, now solar powered, sleeps 6-8 and is spacious, well insulated, and well furnished. 8 people + 2 infants max.

The space
2,300 sq foot 3 bedroom farmhouse originally built in 1860, fully furnished and equipped. The first stage of renovations are complete, with a new, well appointed kitchen and completely renovated (but single) bathroom.

There’s a large living room with original woodwork and funky old baby grand piano, large dining room, and a big yard with a fenced in area, horseshoe pits, and lots of parking.

The upstairs bedrooms are arranged in a series, which was fairly common in Vermont farmhouses of this era; you have to go through the first and second bedrooms to reach the third bedroom, so only the third bedroom is truly private.

We offer plenty of indoor amenities, like wood stove, USB outlets & universal chargers, office area with printer & Xfinity Gigbit wifi always available for guests. There’s also a Smart TV with cable, Netflix & Prime, as well as PS3 & games, DVDs, board & card games, toys, etc.

The kitchen is fits several cooks, with a gas stove, dishwasher, and everything you need to cook & serve meals. We keep basics like cooking oil, flour, sugar, spices, etc stocked for our guests. I live about an hour away in Burlington, VT, and our family uses the house regularly; a friend who lives down the road is always available to help.

There's evidence of work in progress as we continue to make improvements (the next step is to finish the kitchen ceiling), but the house is clean, well furnished, and comfortable.

Guest access
The house is frequently used by our family, so most everything you need will be there. **Please be aware that the 8 person + 2 infant (1 year old or less) limit is set by the town, and not by me. If you exceed the limit, you will be asked to leave, and may be cited by law enforcement. I cannot afford to risk my license. You may have additional guests during the day, but they may not stay overnight.

Dogs are welcome and there are food/water bowls and dog toys. There's an acute cat allergy in our family, so canine companions only, please.

EV Charging (Level 2, J1772) is coming soon.

Unless you request one of us to be there, you will have the place to yourselves. Access the full house and the well stocked cook's kitchen, including use of staples (spices, pasta, flour, etc). Linens are provided, as are washer/dryer, high speed internet/wifi. There is a ski tuning bench and a wood stove that guests may use. There is a swimming hole out back for summertime, and a vegetable garden and BBQ grill for your use. Hiking and mountain biking trails are nearby and the Route 242 pass is a popular road biking destination. Our family includes a dog, but she won't be around when there are guests, and we clean very thoroughly, so unless you have acute allergies, it should not be a problem.

Other things to note
As noted, the house has been through a round of renovations, but there is more to be done. The house will be clean, but there may be evidence of some projects in progress. We recognize this by offering a reasonable price. The bedrooms, for example, are set up as they often were in old Vermont farmhouses, in a series- meaning you have to pass through one to get to another. We plan to build a corridor and add an upstairs bathroom in the next few years. We have also not yet completed the kitchen ceiling. Housekeeping services are available upon request.

Neighborhood highlights

The house sits on a three acre lot but also in the center of the village. A full service supermarket with produce, high quality meats, and beer/wine/liquor is across the road, but out the back door, our lot includes an acre of the woods that extend for miles behind the house, and is a few hundred yards (meters) downstream from an amazing swimming hole, along a beautiful mountain river. Snowmobile and mountain biking trails pass within a quarter mile of the property. There are four restaurants, a post office, a TD Bank ATM, and a ski shop within a 5 minute walk. And, of course, Jay Peak Resort offers some of the best skiing on the east coast and is 8 miles away on the same road.

I'm an architect from Burlington, VT who loves travelling and the outdoors, especially skiing and hiking. I've visited a couple dozen countries, and so far my favorite places are Prague, Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, and the amazing state I've chosen to call home. I love that I can kayak on my lunch break, and I'm gearing up for my 11th marathon. In my downtime, I enjoy reading biographies, histories, and the occasional good mystery. I love everything Bill Bryson has written and enjoy the insightful novels of Chris Bohjalian. I have no idea what's on TV these days but enjoy watching the occasional Red Sox game.
