About this listing
A quaint attic room with twin beds in a lovingly revived 19th century country villa, in a pretty cottage garden setting. Also check out Ashley Villa B&B King room. Steep stairs render this unsuitable for elderly or disabled guests.
The large bathroom containing clawfoot bath, shower and toilet may be shared if king room is occupied.
The hostess, a descendant of the original house/land occupants, has lovingly restored this villa and surrounds to provide a unique country homestead experience. This room is available by itself to accommodate 2, or in conjunction with king-size room (see Ashley Villa Upstairs B&B), to suit a party of 4.
Guests have access via main front door to 1 bedroom plus bathroom and small lounge area. Small fridge, kettle and toaster, plus crockery/cutlery/glassware, are provided in lounge area, along with tea, coffee, milk and sugar. Continental breakfast provided downstairs in farmhouse kitchen (cereal, fruit & yoghurt, toast & spreads)
Interaction with guests
The hostess occupies the downstairs area of the house, so is available to offer local knowledge and assist with any other queries.
This room is part of a character villa set amongst farmland in beautiful Golden Bay, which itself offers 2 national parks and several stunning beaches. The area also offers numerous art and craft outlets, many delightful cafes/restaurants (including the world famous Mussel Inn), exhilarating mountain bike trails and a colourful main street where all basic necessities can be purchased.
There is no public transport in Golden Bay, although a daily bus service runs between there and Nelson. Guests are best to have their own transport, although there are a couple of mountain bikes available for hire at Ashley Villa
Other things to note
Ashley Villa is set in a large cottage garden area through which a small creek meanders. A fire pit is situated beside the creek for balmy evenings. Guests are requested to treat property with respect and maintain acceptable noise levels.
No smoking inside the house please.
No pets please, as a friendly German Shepherd and less friendly Torty cat already live here
I live on this 0.5 ha property with my 2 friends Zola (German Shepherd) and Marigold (attitude-filled cat) and am surrounded by birdsong, garden, farmland and nature. I was raised on a sheep farm just up the road, but left NZ for 20 years to travel and experience other cultures. I'm now back home enjoying semi retirement, but still love to travel and meet other travellers. I love to socialise over a wine, but fully appreciate that some guests prefer their privacy. I have put a huge amount of effort into restoring this home built by my great grandparents in 1891, and really enjoy sharing it's comfort and homeliness with others.
