Check In

  • I really enjoyed staying with Lena and Ray. I must admit that I was a bit concerned staying with a large and unknown dog in an urban apartment. However, their dog is well behaved and very lovable. Lena and Ray are friendly and relaxed. They let me feel right at home in their place. The apartment is clean and I saw no pests of any kind. The neighborhood is safe and the location is close to Manhattan -- one subway stop from Lexington and 57st. I recommend this place to anyone that wants a simple & clean place to stay in NYC.

  • I only met Ray and Lena (and Ray's mother) very briefly but they're nice people. Good little room in a decent neighbourhood and you really can't beat the location: 5 minutes to the subway, 5 more minutes to Manhattan. Great value!

The area of Long Island City in the vicinity of Ray and Lena's place has one or two of its own attractions too:

I visited the Arepas Café for Venezuelan food at about 20 minutes' walk northeast. The M Wells Dinette is to the south and nearer if you're around during lunch hours. There's a well-stocked and modern, if rather expensive general store called Cranberry at one block and that stays open until midnight.

For drinks, you've got the Dutch Kills Centraal bar for decent beers on tap within fifteen minutes' walk and then the darkly atmospheric Dutch Kills cocktail bar just two blocks away (similar names, different places ;-D). I went to both and would recommend them.

  • Wow!! We could not have been happier with our stay at Lena and Ray's place!

I was a first-timer heading to NYC, my boyfriend had been a few times but not for about 8-10 years. We immediately bought a 7 day unlimited subway pass - which turned out to be the most convenient and cheapest way to travel New York for 5 days.

We arrived late on our first day as our flight was delayed, Lena texted me to make sure we were okay and waited for us anyway, she did not make us feel bad about being late, and happily showed us around the apartment and made us a subway cheat sheet of the closest stops (3 or 4 within two blocks of walking - AMAZING!)

The apartment itself was clean and tidy, the room was basic and bare but exactly what we needed - fresh towels for us and clean linens. Aside from the first day and getting the keys we didn't see Ray or Lena at all. They have a huge dog, Magnus - I am normally not a dog person but he is the calmest and sweetest dog I've ever seen. In the mornings going to the bathroom he would just lay on the floor and look at me, some times he would get up to sniff around me but he never made a sound at all.

This location and using the subway systems is easily the BEST way to see the city!! Two of the 5 mornings we actually choose to walk in to Manhattan instead of taking the subway. The walk across Queensboro bridge was nice, it took about 30-35 minutes to walk from the apartment to central park! Unreal. The other day we took the subway down to Brooklyn and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan - highly recommend this!

We were so happy with this place and will for sure come back if we ever get back to NYC! Thanks so much Ray and Lena!!

  • These people were fantastic from the beginning and very quick to respond to my request. Everything was as they said and I left feeling very satisfied and would definitely recommend this place to any visitor or young people who need a place to stay before they find a permanent home, like me. Thanks Lena & Ray. Good luck to all.

  • Lena&Ray are great hosts, nice and kind.
Their place is very cleasn and cozy, conveniently located very close to the subway.
We are not dogs lovers and Lena&Ray made always sure that the dog wouldn't bother us, also he is a very friendly and calm dog.
Our overall experience was very good and we strongly recommend them.

  • We had a very pleasant stay at the apartment of Lisa & Ray. Room was exactly as described and clean. traveling to downtown was pretty easy because the next subway station was in the neigbourhood of the apartment.

  • Lena and Ray are very friendly and helped make my visit very comfortable and easy. They were very good communicators leading up to my visit and were very flexible with my schedule on arriving early and leaving later. I only wish I had seen them and talked to them more often on my trip. Location is great and very close to all the important subways you would need. Would definitely stay with them again! Thanks again and hope you and Magnus have a very Merry Christmas!!
