My spacious, Victorian flat is situated in an attractive, leafy location between funky Crouch End Broadway and nearby Highgate Tube Station. My Airbnb guidebook tells you what to expect from this popular North London "village". The room is a peaceful place for you to retreat to after a busy day.
The room is 3. 4m x 4. 1m - the photos don't do justice to the size of it and the high ceiling gives it a particularly spacious feel. The room comfortably accommodates two people but please note that the bed is a "small double" bed (4 ft. wide) not a full-size double.
The room is situated at the rear of the flat, overlooking a garden, and gets the sun in the morning. The bathroom is next door to the room.
The room contains plenty of storage and there is a TV and a DVD player in there.
The flat has spacious, well-proportioned rooms and many period features including huge sash windows, high ceilings and coving. It is on an upper floor of the building and gets lots of natural light.
There is one good-sized bathroom fitted out Victorian-style with tongue and groove panelling. It has a big bath and a hand-held shower over the bath.
I provide a light, continental - style breakfast which I bring to you in your room. You do not have access to the kitchen for preparing meals but you are welcome to prepare drinks in there and you will find a selection of teas and coffees in the kitchen cupboard for you to help yourself to during your stay.
The room is big enough for you to be fairly self-contained in there but you are also welcome to sit and relax in the living room during your stay. If you want to bring food into the flat, you can eat at the dining table and make use of my crockery and dishwasher.
Towels and bedlinen are provided and there are bathrobes available should you wish.
Interaction with Guests
I like my guests to feel welcome and to provide them with a peaceful and comfortable base. I will be around to check you in and out. I have lived in the flat for 15 years, know London well and am happy to assist you in making the most of your stay. I only take one booking at a time so you will not be sharing with other guests. During your stay, I may hang out with you in the living room or, if I have work to do, I may spend a bit more time at my desk in my own room.
The flat is located in a safe, quiet, leafy area. It is within easy reach of four of North London's most attractive "villages" - Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Highgate and Camden - and is very convenient for Alexandra Palace. As well as being a venue for events, Alexandra Palace hosts a Farmers Market each Sunday.
Crouch End Broadway is less than 10 minutes' walk away and is well-known for its funky shops, cafes, wine bars and restaurants. This location is ideal if you want to pace yourself and take a break from seeing the sights by spending time somewhere more tranquil than the centre of town. Take a look at my comprehensive guidebook on this site to see what there is to enjoy in the locality.
For lovers of green spaces and leafy walks, Queens Wood, Highgate Wood and Alexandra Palace and Park are all close at hand. Just round the corner, you will find Shepherds Hilll Gardens which give you panaromic views of the woods, Muswell Hill and Ally Pally.
Film fans can choose between the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley and the Odeon in Muswell Hill.
Hampstead Heath and Highgate Cemetery can be reached on foot in about 30 minutes.
Highgate tube station (Northern Line - Zone 3) is a fast 12 minute-walk away from my flat. From September 2015, on Fridays and Saturdays the tube will run all night to Highgate.
The W5 bus goes past the end of the road and will take you to Archway tube station (Northern Line - Zone 2) and the Whittington Hospital.
Finsbury Park tube station (Zone 2 - Victoria, Piccadilly lines and overground trains) is twenty minutes away if you take the W7 bus from the stop down the road.
The 91 bus goes from Crouch End to Trafalgar Square via St. Pancras International and Holborn and it runs all night.
You can walk to the bottom of Muswell Hill (15 mins on foot from the flat through Crouch End playing fields) and get a bus to Northumberland Park or Edmonton.
There is on-street parking available. The building is in a controlled parking zone. If you need to park between 2.00pm and 4.00pm on a weekday, I can let you have a visitor's permit.
Other Things to Note
Please note that the double bed is a small double and it abuts the bedroom wall.
So as to minimise disturbance to the neighbours, I do not check guests in after 10.00pm.
- Please take your shoes off when you enter the flat.
- In the interests of cleanliness, no food storage, preparation or consumption in the bedroom (other than breakfast which I bring to the room on a tray).
- Please leave the kitchen and bathroom as you find them.
- If you think that you may need to use the bathroom between 12.00pm and 07.00am please discuss with me in advance how we may minimise the potential disturbance from the flat's plumbing system.
- Guests are not permitted to use the washing machine.
- Out of deference to the neighbours, no loud TV, radio or conversations after 11.00 pm.
- I can provide you with a set of keys to the flat. I will ask for a £15 deposit.
- If you intend to return to the flat after 1.00am, please let me know in advance as my sleep is less likely to be disturbed if I know. Please take care not to disturb the neighbours.
- The flat is a no-smoking and pet-free area.
- You may not bring your own guests into the flat.
- The landline is not for use by guests for telephone calls, except in an emergency.
My stay in Angela's room was great. The room is very spacious and nice just as in the photos. The Crouch End neighborhood is also excellent!
Angela's flat is very comfortable, clean and conveniently located near Highgate Tube Station. She made me very welcome, I would definitely recommend staying there.
Angela was an excellent host who made me feel very welcome at her home. I Everything in the flat was immaculate and the bed was very comfortable indeed. I would definitely recommend her and would consider staying at her place again in future.
I enjoyed my conversations with Angela, but there were a few things that made my stay less than enjoyable. First, there is not shower per se. Just a tub with a spray nozzle. Not good for people who like real showers. Secondly, you don't have total control over the temperature of the room. Thirdly, the chair at the desk in the room is not sufficient for a full-grown man. The wicker sags and cuts off circulation in the legs. Last but not least, two days after I arrived, complete demolition and re-construction of the flat directly above began. From 8AM until the afternoon for THREE WEEKS I had to listen to extremely loud concrete smashing demolition work, retiling, sawing, hammering, cutting, banging. Then the kitchen ceiling leaked twice because of the plumber upstairs. I was a nervous wreck at a time when I needed to be focused on work. As a result, I lost sleep night after night and I was so stressed out that I had to stop work on the LAST DAY of our software project, right when I was needed the very MOST. I was literally having a nervous breakdown. As a result, I was fired from my job and can no longer work remotely. A complete nightmare for my first Air BNB stay. If I had known about the construction or even just the lack of a real shower, or the loud ticking of the heater as it woke me up every morning, completely out of my control, I would NEVER had stayed there.
Thank you, Jerry, for leaving a review. As you know, I'm renting out room in a flat, not a cell in a high security jail. I am curious as to why, if thought that it was that bad, you stayed for 17 nights and only left when I suggested (tactfully, I hope) that it might be in both our interests for you to do so. I hope that, when you next use Airbnb, you find that the experience better meets your expectations..
Angela has a nice home in a quiet, attractive neighbourhood and the guestroom is comfortable, spacious, quiet, just everything you expect.
I spent some nights at Angela's apartment and it was really good. The apartment is well located in a residential green area, on the hills, very well connected to London downtown, even late at night. The room is very clean and confortable with a double bed. Angela is helpful, attentive and available to chat. I will have no doubt on where to stay when I will go back to London.
My mum had a very comfortable stay at Angela's when we had just had a baby in a our bedroom flat. It was great that she could stay somewhere nice nearby.
Originally from East Anglia, my career brought me to London 25 years ago and I have never regretted it. I like to escape to the countryside from time to time though and last summer I went to Dance Camp East in Suffolk to enjoy a week of camping in a circle and living in a temporary community. In Summer 2013, I spent a month working as a volunteer at a spiritual retreat centre in a village in Oxfordshire.
I have travelled quite a bit internationally too (including in the Far East and Africa) and have a working knowledge of French, Spanish and German. Professionally, I work as a solicitor. I work on an interim basis and, between paid jobs, I pursue other interests. At present, I am a trainee on the counselling diploma course at the Gestalt Centre London.
In the last couple of years, I have spent time as a resident volunteer at Old Hall in Suffolk, Monkton Wyld in Dorset and the Abbey in Oxfordshire, all permanent residential communities based in rural areas. Other interests of mine include Five Rhythms dance, camping, art, music and theatre.
I have lived in my flat for 15 years, I love it and find that other people love it too! I have been hosting paying guests for three years and I enjoy sharing my home with others. I like my guests to feel welcome and hope to provide them with a comfortable base whether they are in London to work or play.
