It really doesn't get any better than this! Come share this Garden of Eden in the North Portland Overlook neighborhood, walking distance to the up and coming Mississippi Arts District.
Located 3 blocks from a Max (Portland's street car) stop, a 15 minute ride into downtown [and the train station!] and 45 minute ride to the airport. Alternatively, on a major bike route with about a 15-20 minute ride into downtown (bike rentals available here!!). As well, by car, the house is a 10 minute drive to downtown and a 15 minute drive to the airport.
My home is an urban permaculture homestead; all of the landscaping is edible and organic with 10 beautiful chickens and one honey bee colony (they hang out in the back corner of the garden and without mention you wouldn't even know they were there!) As well, the neighborhood is surrounded in beautiful gardens. The interior of the home is being remodeled into an eco modern paradise utilizing all sustainable and non-toxic materials. Don't worry, I'm not currently working on any projects, there are just a few unfinished ones around the house! I am very environmentally conscious; recycle everything and compost, the electricity is sourced 100% from wind power through the service provider, as well, the gas heating comes from the Methane produced on dairy farms! Additionally as part of our house remodel I am updating the house to be as energy efficient as possible.
I have two rooms available to rent, so if this one isn't available check on the other! Both bedrooms have very comfortable queen sized beds and can hold a single cot (that we can provide) for a third person. The bedrooms are private, but we share a bathroom. : ) There is ample shared space throughout the house and you will have access to wireless internet.
Your stay includes a self serve organic breakfast of oatmeal, granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea. Access to on-site laundry and gourmet farm fresh breakfast can be provided upon request for a nominal fee. I am a total foodie and excellent cook and buy only local, organic produce and pasture-fed meats. Depending on the season there may be fresh fruit and veggies from the garden available, as well as fresh eggs from the chickens! The fully stocked kitchen is available for you to prepare meals in if you so choose and New Seasons Market, Portland's local grocery store, is only two Max stops away or a 15 minute walk!
Enjoy a walk to the Mississippi Neighborhood where you'll find quaint coffee shops, fabulous boutiques, yoga studios, spa's, music venues and pubs. There are a number of amazing local restaurants nearby with your choice of Thai, Mexican, Italian, pizza and southern food to name a few, as well as a variety of gourmet food carts. And lets not forget another thing Portland is known for.... beer! Widmer Brewing is down the road as well as McMenamins (White Eagle) and lesser known Amnesia Brewing, Lucky Lab, Hopworks Urban Brewery and New Old Lompoc. You might also enjoy relaxing in the backyard garden here!
The house is shared with my loving miniature schnauzer Beau. He loves guests and likes to greet them when they arrive! I am pleased to meet new people - we can sit and chat, or just smile and say hi as you come and go. As well, I am happy to give advice on great ways to explore the area.
This house is super laid back, I really don't have any rules! I just ask that you be respectful of others using the space as far as volume of noise is concerned. You can come and go as you please (no worries on late night arrivals as long as you are quiet if arriving in late!)
This was my first Airbnb experience. I really enjoyed it and it was definitely worth the money. The house and the room are beautiful, and they have a huge awesome kitchen, and the people are very friendly and helpful. Along with Joelle, Shanita was very helpful and hospitable. I would recommend this place especially to hippie or hippie-leaning types, as that's the general vibe of the place.
I was surprised by the overall feel of the house and neighborhood. I wish I had done a little more research before booking this for $93. I don't feel it was worth that amount. I was in a hurry and booked quickly without doing my research. I would not stay here again.
There is absolutely no reason you will not enjoy a perfectly lovely stay at Joelle's. Her home is beautifully designed and visually striking, while achieving a comfortable and laid-back feel. Not to mention, her neighborhood is safe and only a convenient walk or ride away from many great Portland-esque attractions. Overall, I found my first visit to Portland spectacular in credit, of course, to Joelle's hospitality.
Joelle's home is welcoming and unique. The pups were super friendly and definitely terrible guard dogs. :) The room is as pictured and the bed was very comfortable. They also host other guests in the home and the house is shared with other roommates in the adjacent residence. There is certainly a community feel to the home.
Owner and Room mates are so kind. They have lovely dogs.
We enjoy to stay 5days. thanks for every things.
I had a great time staying at Joelle's place. While I didn't have the privilege of meeting her, her housemates (and dogs) were so welcoming and easy going. The house has a very warm atmosphere and is so relaxed. It's conveniently located to a main train line and some bus lines too. I especially enjoyed the backyard, which is home to a host of beautiful plants and chickens too! I would highly recommend this place for a calm and cozy stay in Portland.
My boyfriend and I went down to Portland for an evening for his birthday so we were looking for a place that seemed very relaxed but still private. This was perfect! The room was super cute, cozy, and clean. The dogs were super friendly and so was the other Airbnb guest. We had fresh towels waiting for us (always a plus) and the bathroom was clean and right across the hall. The location was safe and quiet but still plenty of bars and restaurants near by. Over all an awesome experience for us! We'll be back!
