It really doesn't get any better than this! Come share this Garden of Eden in the North Portland Overlook neighborhood, walking distance to the up and coming Mississippi Arts District.
Located 3 blocks from a Max (Portland's street car) stop, a 15 minute ride into downtown [and the train station!] and 45 minute ride to the airport. Alternatively, on a major bike route with about a 15-20 minute ride into downtown (bike rentals available here!!). As well, by car, the house is a 10 minute drive to downtown and a 15 minute drive to the airport.
My home is an urban permaculture homestead; all of the landscaping is edible and organic with 10 beautiful chickens and one honey bee colony (they hang out in the back corner of the garden and without mention you wouldn't even know they were there!) As well, the neighborhood is surrounded in beautiful gardens. The interior of the home is being remodeled into an eco modern paradise utilizing all sustainable and non-toxic materials. Don't worry, I'm not currently working on any projects, there are just a few unfinished ones around the house! I am very environmentally conscious; recycle everything and compost, the electricity is sourced 100% from wind power through the service provider, as well, the gas heating comes from the Methane produced on dairy farms! Additionally as part of our house remodel I am updating the house to be as energy efficient as possible.
I have two rooms available to rent, so if this one isn't available check on the other! Both bedrooms have very comfortable queen sized beds and can hold a single cot (that we can provide) for a third person. The bedrooms are private, but we share a bathroom. : ) There is ample shared space throughout the house and you will have access to wireless internet.
Your stay includes a self serve organic breakfast of oatmeal, granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea. Access to on-site laundry and gourmet farm fresh breakfast can be provided upon request for a nominal fee. I am a total foodie and excellent cook and buy only local, organic produce and pasture-fed meats. Depending on the season there may be fresh fruit and veggies from the garden available, as well as fresh eggs from the chickens! The fully stocked kitchen is available for you to prepare meals in if you so choose and New Seasons Market, Portland's local grocery store, is only two Max stops away or a 15 minute walk!
Enjoy a walk to the Mississippi Neighborhood where you'll find quaint coffee shops, fabulous boutiques, yoga studios, spa's, music venues and pubs. There are a number of amazing local restaurants nearby with your choice of Thai, Mexican, Italian, pizza and southern food to name a few, as well as a variety of gourmet food carts. And lets not forget another thing Portland is known for.... beer! Widmer Brewing is down the road as well as McMenamins (White Eagle) and lesser known Amnesia Brewing, Lucky Lab, Hopworks Urban Brewery and New Old Lompoc. You might also enjoy relaxing in the backyard garden here!
The house is shared with my loving miniature schnauzer Beau. He loves guests and likes to greet them when they arrive! I am pleased to meet new people - we can sit and chat, or just smile and say hi as you come and go. As well, I am happy to give advice on great ways to explore the area.

We chose the Ecolodge because the location was ideal, but perhaps we should have paid more attention to the finer details of the listing. If you're a freewheeling Brooklyn hipster or a legit PNW hippie this is the place for you, but if you're an adult with a few typical valuables and a need for bathroom privacy look elsewhere.
Our room was clean and the bed very comfortable, but the door did not lock and nor did the bathroom door. The rest of the house was cluttered and had people coming in and out at all hours. We didn't feel secure and did not feel our passports and other valuables were safe. Joelle was polite when we met her and we absolutely loved her wee dog.
Definitely an authentic Portland experience. Not the best experience if someone is looking for a hotel replacement. Very homey and comfortable space, but a bit cluttered. Joelle was very kind and welcoming and her dog was sweet.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Joelle was a great host! Thanks again!
While it was inexpensive, close to public transit and a place to sleep and bathe, make sure you can deal with some of the drawbacks and misrepresentation from the ad.
The pictures didn't represent the current situation there. There is a A LOT of clutter, dirt and overall messiness. The shower had mold on the walls and shower curtain and the bathroom smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a long while. We had ants on the floor in our room that got into our shoes. The dog up until the last day smelled and was a matted mess. The dishes in the sink piled up the entire week and were finally done on the last day. If these are things that you are willing to deal with then this is the right place for you.
On another note; Joelle and her partner are very nice and accommodating when asked. Access to laundry during our stay was a very nice perk as well.
In general you get what you paid for.
Nice room, bright and big. But it wasnt near downtown or other areas that tourists might visit. If you're traveling with car, no problem but if you're traveling w/o car just like me, it woyld be bit inconvenient.
Joelle was very friendly but the room was cold and the place quite dirty. I would not recommend it.
Conveniently located. Very close to MAX line and a short ride into downtown. Laid back atmosphere and nice neighborhood.
Great place for the price!
This was a wonderful place to stay to get the full experience of living in Portland as a member of the community.
Joelle's place is just a quick 5 minute walk to the train the MAX. And with the MAX is just a 15 minute ride to the MODA Center and then another 5 minutes to Old Downtown, Portland.
She had yogurt and granola available to all her guests.
The bathroom was great! The bathroom floor was heated!
Her dog was very friendly and always greeted me when I left in the morning and returned in the evening!
Very clean and cute house! Joelle greeted us when we arrived and was very sweet. I would highly recommend this place & would stay again if I was in the area!
