THE COTTAGE
Furnished with warm Tasmanian speciality woods like deep red Myrtle and Sassafras, Cedar Cottage Meander is a unique and beautiful space.
You’ll find an appreciation of craft everywhere you look; from the old mortice and tenon joints, to the hand-made Huon Pine kitchen, the post-and-rail fences made from hand-split hardwood, to the block-printed cushion and yukata robe fabrics.
We’ve decorated the cottage with comfort in mind, using natural materials like wood, linen, cotton, jute, down and wool.
There’s a little bit of quirk and a whole heap of style.
Enjoy the guest library with a focus on contemporary Tasmanian authors, as well as a number of coffee table, art and hardcover books.
We haven’t skimped on technology.
This might be the bush, but you can still enjoy robust, unlimited WIFI, smart lock entry (no more fumbling with lock boxes, wired USB charging points, portable BOSE Bluetooth speaker, smart TV with free streaming channels, and dual programmable electric blankets.
THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Located 50 minutes from both Launceston and Devonport, Cedar Cottage Meander sits at the foot of kooparoona niara / the Great Western Tiers in Central-North Tasmania.
Known as the “mountains of our spirits" to the local Pallitorre people, this area encompasses the wild wilderness and ancient rainforests of the Meander Forest Reserve, to the alpine moorland gardens in the Central Plateau Conservation Area above.
We're close to the iconic Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park, Walls of Jerusalem National Park, Mole Creek Karst National Park, Central Plateau Conservation Area, tulampanga / Alum Cliffs and the stunning Liffey Falls.
Enjoy bushwalking, river sledding, horse riding, canyoning, caving, mountain biking, fishing, Tasmanian Aboriginal cultural tours and other adventures.
Food lovers have plenty of choice at Launceston’s famous Harvest Market, the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail and the Deloraine-Latrobe Produce Loop, with fresh Tasmanian produce, cheese, berries, black truffles, ethical meat, smoked salmon, craft beer, cider and boutique vineyards and distilleries at your fingertips.
Deloraine with its cafes, arts, crafts, and village charm is 15 min drive away. We recommend Frank & Lotti, Deloraine Deli and Found in Earth for great coffee, treats and eats.
The Bush Inn, Red Brick Road Ciderworks and Distillery and The Empire Hotel are great spots for a drink and a nibble.
Further afield, there’s the Wandering Trout Crafty Ales Bar & Grill, Meander Valley Vineyard, Love Lucy Boots - Boutique Wine Bar, Western Tiers Distillery, Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm and Ashgrove Dairy Door.
The local Meander Bridge Café offers real coffee and well-priced lunches too; it’s also a post office, general store and great place for a yarn in the tradition of all good country towns.
