House - Entire home/apt · 43rd Ave, Hyattsville, MD 20781, United States

The Space

You have use of the entire house
•Plenty of room for families
•Use of the kitchen
•Driveway parking
•Washer and Dryer
•Rides to and from Metro 1 mile away
•Ride from airports, bus or train station
•Restaurants nearby
•Cats and pool table to entertain kids

You can use 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. They are on the second floor with a newly remodeled bathroom, with a tub and walk-in shower. There are 2 large bedrooms, both with queen size beds, and a small room with a full size bed. They all will sleep 2 each. I also have 3 queen and 3 twin air beds I can set up in the large rooms. The bedrooms all have Direct TV. One room has a DVD player and Roku for Netflix.

The well equipped, gourmet eat in kitchen has a duel-fuel stove with a grill. The table will seat up to 10 people. There is cereal, breakfast bars, snack food, sodas and juice for the guests.

I have a tankless water heater. That means you have unlimited hot water. If 12 people need to take a shower, you won't have to wait for the water to heat up again after 2 showers.

There is WIFI, and DSL for your laptop or wireless device. I have a printer you can use.

The library has lots of books, a pool table and foos ball table.

If you have small kids, I have a car seat, high chair, Pack and Play, and a stroller.

There are lots of restaurants near by, some with bars, 7-11, and fast food places within walking distance. Near the Metro station there is a shopping center with a Target, grocery store, more restaurants, movie theaters and several churches.

If you arrive at National, Dulles or BWI Airports, Union Station by train or bus, I am usually available to give you a ride to and from the house. I am also usually available to give rides to and from the Metro station, (my van will hold up to 6 passengers). West Hyattsville and Prince Georges’ Plaza, both on the Green Line, are about 1 mile from the house. There is parking at both stations.

If you are driving, my driveway will hold up to 4 cars.

It is about a 20 minute Metro ride to the National Mall in Washington. It is a 20 minute drive to downtown DC. The house is also near the University of Maryland.

I don’t have unrelated groups stay at the house at the same time, so if you only use 1 bedroom, you will be the only guest. If you use 1 bedroom, 2 or 3, if you are 1 person or 12, the cost is $60 per night for the whole house.

I live in the house and stay in the fourth bedroom on the first floor and have 3 cats.

If you have never done this, it may seem strange staying in someones house while they are there, but try it. I don't think you will ever go back to a conventional hotel. You get someone that knows the area and can help with all of your needs and all of the advantages of being in a house; kitchen, lots of space, wifi, Direct TV, and parking. Everyone says that the best part of staying at my house is the kittens. You can't get that in a hotel. And the price can't be beat.

  • Wonderful experience. Donna's home is comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the pool table and the gourmet kitchen. Don't be afraid of the air mattress ...it felt like a bed. There were DVD's and games for the kids ... though we didn't have much time to use them. Great location for metro use into DC. Just can't say enough nice words about the host or her home.

  • We had a group of 12 and all we can say is it was OUTSTANDING! We originally were thinking this is "too good to be true", that's not the case, ITS TRUE. Everything written about this lovely place is correct and its the best value in America. Donna has done a very good job taking care of her property with many upgrades and its as clean as a whistle. She is very hospitable and a true gift. She helps out wherever needed and can answer all your questions about DC and beyond. God Bless Donna, and we hope to return someday

  • We had a great time at Donna's place. We stayed there at the end of March for 4 nights with 2 kids, ages 9 and 6. If you ask them what was the best part of trip to DC -- Donna's house and cats! The house was comfortable, clean and well equipped as well as close enough to DC on a subway line. We could not ask for more. Donna was friendly, provided information when asked and tried to stay away to let us enjoy our time there. Thank you Donna for your hospitality.

  • We were blessed beyond measure to stay in Donna's lovely home and enjoy her gracious hospitality. She went above and beyond the requirements for hosting us and gave us the perfect amount of privacy and fellowship. We had an asthma issue with our daughter the last night, which almost resulted in having to go to the ER, and Donna handled the sudden situation beautifully--calmly offering to take us (since we'd no idea where to go), and making a quick trip to get us some needed items if we had to go. We highly recommend both Donna and her classy and inviting home. :)

  • Donna and her lovely house and cats are AMAZING. You can never expect more from a host. Everything was so lovely and we are so happy and lucky to get the spot for the days we were there. She was very helpful and supporting for our DC trip, and just talking to her is such a pleasant experience which became one of our favorite parts of this trip. Thanks Donna for everything, and we will definitely go back to her house next time we visit DC if we are lucky enough to be able to book her house before all these people out their willing to stay with her lol!

  • We stayed with Donna and her cats for 4 nights. What a treat! Her house was perfect; clean, large, fully equipped and gorgeous. She has meticulously poured over her home and made it beautiful and so comfortable. We were able to cook and store our food for our trip, and she had extra food in which we could use to cook, especially items like butter, evoo, pasta, breakfast foods. Her cats are very friendly and loved my kids.
As for location, it was very convenient to the metro. We drove to a metro stop by a mall and parked for the day. It is a very safe area. It took about 20 minutes to get to downtown Washington. In the evenings we popped into the grocery store to pick up dinner and then headed back to the house to prepare dinner which was a snap as the kitchen was so equipped. After dinner the kids would head upstairs each with a cat in arms to watch a favourite show that they don't get at home because each of their rooms had a tv. That was a treat for them. As they are teenagers; having a bit of space in the evenings was good for them to unwind, as with us. We parents would plan the next day and then relax in our own room...4 poster bed and all. LOVELY.
I noticed she had lots of board games and the pool table which we did not use as we all were tired after a day of site-seeing, but other guests might like those.
When home, Donna was happy to chat about DC, the house, the cats, with us.
She is warmly interested in her guests. Our holiday was so fabulous greatly in part by Donna's hospitality and generosity.

  • All the wonderful reviews about Donna's house and her hospitality are not exaggerated. Our South African family of four stayed there for twelve days. The French kitchen is wow, the bathroom state of the art and cats charming. But it is Donna herself that made the stay special. She drove us to the metro station many times and even once to downtown Washington for a performance at the Kennedy Centre. And then she offered to cook dinner for us and what a feast it was. We wanted to stay with regular Americans to get a better idea of the country and Donna, being a very political animal, gave us many insights into the US. It was a priviledge!

  • Donna is wonderful. She is the kind of host that opens her home up to guests because she absolutely loves the experience of welcoming diverse groups of people from all over the world. Her aim is to make sure you have a great stay , as such there are lots of little amenities and special touches offered that isn't at all common to encounter on an average airbnb stay (i'm a host and I've used the site to book apartments/houses all over Europe and the US). The house is enormous, clean comfortable and well stocked with drinks and eats. In all my travels I don't think I've ever encountered better value.
I should also add Donna's incredible attention to detail. SHE warned US about a storm that was rolling in before we heard about it on the news. We were able to leave a day early to beat it arriving safely. She was extremely communicative, flexible and accommodating the entire way. Highly recommend a stay with Donna.

  • You would have read so many reviews about Donna's wonderful home, adorable cats and amazing personality but you can't really appreciate them until you actually meet/see them. I thoroughly enjoyed our nice conversation and my friends were so happy running after her cats or playing billiard in her hobby room. If I ever go to DC again, she will be my only choice and this time it won't be only a day ;)

  • Donna's home provided a very comfortable, safe, and welcoming respite. Our room was very large and every room in the house was sparkling clean. If you like a soft bed, you'll love the bed in the "pink" room. Donna herself was flexible, accommodating, and very kind. We look forward to staying with her again.

About
I am 59 and a retired cable splicer from the phone company. I like to read, sew and really like to cook. I have 3 cats that keep the place lively. I hope to make new friends and learn new things by having people stay in my home.Hosting people from all over the country and the world has been the experience of a lifetime. I have found that everyone has a story and they are all interesting. My life has been greatly enriched by the people I have met. The stories I hear about peoples lives and history, have given me a look into the world I couldn't have gotten any other way. I look forward to each new guest and the adventure they will bring.
